Asomugha was a great CB. He was just misused in Philthy the sam eway Revis was in Tampa. Ware is starting to be get injured a fair amount. It is just to many new parts.
Asomugha was never at the level of Revis.
I'm not sure how 3 players is "too many new parts", but I guess we'll see...

Doubtful. The Raiders certainly didn't impact Arizona's ability to sign Veldheer at a good price. Veldheer and Monroe were looking for the right situation along with fair deals (which still happen to be millions of dollars).

FYI, Da Raiders, only them, lost their high priced tackle, he failed his physical and is now going to sign back with the Rams.... I think this was a blessing in disguise for the Raiders, that contract was crazy......
Not a blessing. This was buyer's remorse. Saffold has already agreed to a 5-yr contract to stay with the Rams. I don't know the figures, but I'm sure it's a lot less than the Raiders' deal.

I love the idea of Edelman..... but who knows if anyone not named Brady,Rodgers,Manning or Brees and get him those numbers he had last year. I'd rather we have Smith for a fraction of the cost and put the extra $$$ towards Mack
Very much agree with this. I love Joe, but he is not accurate enough to methodically play pitch and catch with Edelman.

I understand why you would bring up the "dream team", but there is really no comparison in my mind. Asomugha was way overrated and Jason Babin was no DeMarcus Ware. T.J. Ward is also an outstanding player (who they got at a terrific price). Michael Vick was obviously no Peyton Manning. The "dream team" label came from Vince freakin' Young for god's sake.
Right now, you can look at the additions for Denver (since their Super Bowl appearance) as Ryan Clady (one of the best LTs in football), Dan Koppen (their starting center), Aqib Talib, T. J. Ward and DeMarcus Ware. They will be a team to be reckoned with. I'm also afraid they will be a very attractive option for a player like Daryl Smith who is looking for a ring at this point in his career.

Financially it is a really good deal. I think he left money on the table. I think his value is higher around the league.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor are the two best, but it's not a guarantee that one of them makes it to the Ravens. It's not a deep draft for FS this year.

Chris Clemons is my hope. Very good coverage safety that would allow Elam to slide into SS spot. He's also very durable (missing 3 games in 4 years). I've heard the Lions and Jets mentioned as being interested. I believe the Dolphins want him back.

I find it funny how something from just 5 days ago can be forgotten because of a few post netotiation spin comments. The Ravens are paying him less than they were budgeting for. Monroe is making $2.5 mil less than he was seaking.

This was a class organization and class player working together to come to an agreement that both sides are extremely happy with. There was no "leverage" taken away from Monroe and Monroe did not short himself. Half of Monroe's contract is guaranteed money. He ranks 7th of all LTs in guaranteed money. Both the Ravens (Ozzie) and Monroe deserve a lot of credit for getting this done. Monroe was never truly on the market and the Ravens were never truly shopping anywhere else. Both sides have said how committed they were to get this done.
I get why people want to make this another genius move by Ozzie (and it was), but I don't get why people want to make Monroe out to be some stupid chump who was manipulated and fooled by smarter people. Monroe is a class act all the way and is by far the best thing we've had at LT since Ogden. Monroe placed an emphasis on the benefits to his family, the desire to play for a winning organization (who can blame him after his Jags stint) and the security that comes with this contract. Those values should be applauded, not ridiculed.

Wow. How did the Broncos land T.J. Ward, one of the top free agents on the market, to a deal worth less than $6 million per year? This is an amazing signing, and it's well worth the first A+ of the day (not counting the Jaguars actually getting something for Blaine Gabbert, because that still seems unreal).
The safety position was a big need for Denver - Broncos team needs page - and getting a major talent like Ward really improves the pass defense. The Broncos just got a lot better.Colts sign DE/DT Arthur Jones (5 years, $33M; $16M guaranteed): A- Grade
I usually like to chide Ryan Grigson for overspending in free agency, but I like this move. Obtaining Arthur Jones makes sense for many reasons. First, Jones played under Chuck Pagano in Baltimore, so there won't be any sort of scheme transition for him. Second, Jones fills a huge need on the defensive line, as Indianapolis desperately needed an upgrade. And third, Jones was the top 3-4 defensive end available on the market.
Given all of those things, a 5-year, $33 million deal for a talented player like Jones almost seems like a bargain. -

Ravens re-sign OT Eugene Monroe (5 years, $37.5M; $19M guaranteed): A Grade
A 5-year, $37.5 million contract contains a lot of money for any non-quarterback, but Eugene Monroe is worth it. Monroe is one of the top left tackles in the NFL, and at just 27 years old, he has 4-5 more Pro Bowl-caliber seasons remaining. Baltimore's offensive line was already a mess, so bringing Monroe back was crucial.
What makes this an especially excellent deal is the fact that both the Dolphins (Branden Albert) and Raiders (Rodger Saffold) foolishly dished out more money to inferior offensive tackles. But is anyone surprised that Ozzie Newsome pulled off such a terrific move like this?Cardinals sign OT Jared Veldheer (5 years, $35M; $17M guaranteed): B+ Grade
It's about time the Cardinals landed a legitimate starting left tackle. Carson Palmer is as immobile as quarterbacks get, so protecting him was paramount. They'll be able to do so with Jared Veldheer manning the blind side.
Veldheer was the second-best offensive tackle available on the market after Eugene Monroe, and he'll be just 27 in June, so $35 million over five years is a very good price for him.Dolphins sign OT Branden Albert (5 years, $46M; $25M guaranteed): C- Grade
With Jared Veldheer obtaining $35 million overall and $17 million guaranteed, it's only natural that the Dolphins paid more for an inferior player at the same position. It is the free agency period, after all.
Branden Albert has played all 16 games just once in his career. He's very injury-prone, and he's not even elite when healthy. This sort of contract is elite left tackle money. Albert certainly doesn't fit that description. Reggie McKenzie continues to destroy the Raiders. From the man who spent a first-round pick on a second-round corner prospect with a heart problem and refused to franchise anyone this offseason, McKenzie's latest deal might be the biggest joke of all.
I don't understand this. Why didn't McKenzie just franchise Jared Veldheer, who happens to be better than Rodger Saffold? And does McKenzie really think Saffold can play left tackle? Because he can't. He can't even stay healthy. Saffold has missed 17 games in the past three seasons, so why would he suddenly remain healthy on the West Coast?
I get that McKenzie has lots of money to spend this offseason, but this is the type of deal that will screw Oakland down the road. And yes, for those wondering, any "Millen" grade is an F. If they bring Gino back as starting center and Shipley back as starting LG, I agree with you. If our receiving corp stays the same (with no upgrades), I agree with you. If they bring Dickson back as the #2 TE instead of upgrading, I agree with you.
