Don't forget about Supernow. I was thinking they'd move Nick to the practice squad but he was the most impressive player in camp over the weekend. He's the best blocking TE we have now and could be in the 2 TE set for blocking. Maxx will be in for receiving but don't coun't Supernow out. Ravens might go with 4 TEs til Pitta returns, if he comes back.

Im just saying they drafted Pitta and Dickson as TEs in the same draft. I'm also saying this which came afterwards. With the NFL lockout over, the Baltimore Ravens have begun to shed veteran players. First on the chopping block: wide receiver Derrick Mason. Mason will be released when the league calendar permits it. Sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Monday that Baltimore also has told running back Willis McGahee and tight end Todd Heap they will be cut. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6801735/baltimore-ravens-plan-cut-derrick-mason-willis-mcgahee-todd-heap-too

Heap was old and slow and so was Mason. They were both cut as Ozzie went with youth and speed. Damn shame neither one got a ring. They won a lot of ball games for the Ravens but never made it to the big dance.

Boyle has been most impressive in rookie camp this weekend accord to Ravens report. He's the best blocking TE we have and he can catch too. Ravens will use a lot of 2 TE sets like last year under Kubes and Nick could be the 2d TE because of his blocking. He's a mean looking dude. Check out his pic in the portrait thread for rookies.
  5. Some of these guys look like mean mutha f*ckers. Hope that transfers well to the football field. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/photos/photo-gallery/2015-Ravens-Rookies-Portraits/8debab1a-3634-4968-b1af-cc7c5e352c7b#c21c1383-6b96-44c3-9c9d-d318957f371c
  6. I couldn't hack into sunspot to find out but have another method of trying to find out Mikie's grades. Damn sunspot went cheap on us.
  7. That's what I kept saying about Torrey all those years. That's how we won SB 47. He didn't do much but take his corners deep in the corner which opened the middle - even more so with JJ doing the same on the other side. Pitta caught his TD over the middle. Of course Torrey and JJ are gone so now they can't put an extra man in the box.
  8. Nobody on the net gives them below a B. Mel Kiper, ESPN A- Bryan Fischer, NFL.com A Jamie Dukes, NFL.com B Rob Rang, CBS Sports A Evan Silva, Yahoo! A Chris Burke and Doug Farrar, SI.com B Round 1, No. 26 WR Breshad Perriman (UCF): “Better Than Torrey Smith” Kiper knows that many will call him a homer because he’s from Baltimore and he gave the Ravens the best grade of all 32 teams (tied with Seahawks, Steelers, Redskins, Jets), but “I call them as I see them,” he wrote. And his pre-draft Big Board is the best proof of an objective opinion. Baltimore drafted three players in the first 90 picks who were among Kiper’s Top 50 before the selecting even began. “Breshad Perriman could have been off the board by No. 14, and I wouldn't have blinked,” Kiper wrote. “To get a big (218 pounds), fast (sub-4.3 speed) big-play threat such as this at No. 26 is a great get. You bet Perriman needs to be more consistent with his hands, but there's some Dez Bryant to his game.” During a conference call Sunday afternoon, Kiper added: "I think he'll be better than Torrey Smith." Meanwhile, College Football 24/7 writer Bryan Fischer represented those who are concerned about Perriman as a first-round pick. Writing for NFL.com, Fischer said, “It's hard to criticize a pick by esteemed GM Ozzie Newsome, but the selection of Perriman is interesting, given his lack of college production and issues with drops. He's a great replacement for Torrey Smith, giving the team some ability to stretch the field, and he lands with the perfect team to learn the game behind some veterans on offense. His game film at UCF gives some cause for concern, but not much apparently for the Baltimore front office.”

Ozzie drafted Dickson and Pitta the same year and won the SB with them. Take out Pitta's TD and they lose. Now he's injured and nobody knows if he'll ever play again so drafting two more rookies should have the same result in the end, ie, another SB trophy.

They send him thru waivers and if he isn't claimed he goes on PS. They've drafted 3 TEs in 2 years. They want to be prepared if Pitta doesn't come back and now have the youngest 1-2 TE punch in the NFL. They also have depth with Boyle.

This guy is a project and won't contribute at all this year and could be on the practice squad. He's obvious depth in case Pitta never returns.
  12. Squeelers got Dupree but Ravens got the guy who made him go by taking up all the blockers in Z. Smith. He'll do the same for the guy next to him here. Tall, long and broad-shouldered with solid build on his frame, looking the part of a NFL defensive end. Initial burst out of his stance to win the edge and surprise blockers with quickness. Core power and length to set the edge with heavy hands and upper body strength to shock blockers at the point of attack. Aggressive swat/swim moves with active hands to work off blockers and keep himself free. Improved eye use to locate and track quickly, rarely losing sight of the ball. Stays assignment sound and rarely take himself out of plays. Physical striker and reliable tackler, using his length to wrap and finish. Only average speed, but terrific effort each snap and fights through the whistle. Fiery competitor and plays with a passionate demeanor, always fired up. Versatile experience as an edge rusher at both left and right end, also lining up inside as a 3-tech tackle. Football bloodlines with an older brother (OL Bob Meeks) and cousin (DT Davern Williams) who played in the NFL. Toughed out an ankle injury late in the 2014 season, missing three quarters against Georgia, but returned following week. Always smiling and carry himself with a positive attitude and the coaches talk highly about his growth, both physically and mentally.
  13. I'll say A- subject to change if Perriman doesn't have the drops. Maxx and Davis were steals where we got them. Ozzie added a lot of depth. One of the best drafts in the draft.
  14. Streeter and Mellette weren't developed enough for the pros. Oz took a chance and flopped like so many WRs he drafted and like so many other GMs. Ozzie had so many picks and such few needs he could draft guys like this, the Georgia Tech guy and the Delaware guy. But Ravens liked Walker and he was on their board as early as the 3rd round. Their assistant coach really loved him and told him that he would push the Ravens to sign him.
  15. LOL - I thought you were talking about Ozzie running his draft. He's killing it from the bottom. ILMAO I agree about this Chicago business. They never should have left NY. It was always there for a reason. I'll always watch. It's fun at the water hole and everyone bought me drinks when I said Ravens would trade up for Maxx and they did. And the best part is they stole him from the Squeelers and jumped in front of them to boot. They didn't have the ammo to trade up. Ozzie did.
  16. TBird

    Maxx

The best part is, Ozzie stole him from the Squeelers. Wait til you see him in the red zone with that big target on him for Joe to see.
  17. That's what the Pissburgh Tribune is saying. Squeelers were interested in Ravens new TE Max Williams because Miller is 33 and no depth behind him. Same situation Ravens were in with Gilmore. PIss tried to trade up but couldn't pull it off according to the paper but Ozzie had the ammo to move up 3 spots to grab him and Piss is, well, pissed. Maxx will be a perfect fit in the AFC-N. It was payback of sorts for Ozzie which he denies. He said we weren't trying to steal anyone while DeCosta had a big smile on his face next to him. Ravens were hoping Dupree would fall to them and tried to swing a deal for him but couldn't and he fell to Piss as Ozzie cringed. He definitely got even with Maxx. Even the drafts are like a football game between the two teams. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-draft/Did-Ravens-Steal-Maxx-Williams-From-Steelers/08651ecf-0041-4a5a-9e9a-60a25b644761
  18. Ravens receivers coach was on 105.7 earlier and said he has some drills he'll run Perrimen thru and he'll keep at him. The route running can be corrected. Let's give him a chance before killing him. I wanted Strong but Perrimen has bigger body and Strong is more of a possession receiver exactly like Boldin. Hell, Strong is still on the board. Nobody wanted him in first round. Kiper had Perrimen going to SF @ 15.
  19. There were questions about Torrey's route running and ball skills too and he over came a lot of them. He had trouble going up for the ball and fighting for it at its highest peak like at the end of the game in Indy with a chance to tie it. I've seen Perriman going up and fighting for the ball on his high lite film. He has the size to do it. He rose on the boards due to his 4.2 o 3 speed on his workout. When I saw him on TV I said wow when I saw how big he was. He has DEZ Bryants body and it took a couple of years for him to develop and get over his many off seasons troubles. DeCosta said their board was wiped clean so it was either Perriman or trade down. a lot of us wanted Strong but he is still on the board after Indy passed on him too. It will be interesting tomorrow to see if Ravens trade up to get either Maxx Williams or Clive Walford at TE to fill another need and give Joe some more weapons. I doubt if Oz would draft two offensive players in a row but you never know and the defense is stocked. They can still get some second teir corners and some good RBs in the middle rounds. All the corners they wanted were gone and Mel Gordon was too - early. Gurley went at # 10 for first time 2 RBs were drafted in 1st round since 2010. So much for those two being bad values in the first round. One thing for sure, like with Torrey, Perriman will require their best corners to cover him or they will get burned. He will win games just showing up for the races with that 4.2 speed. If he can just catch.

  21. Yes it does. I'd like him except for the bad boy part. Ozzie already said Kevin Johnson will be gone. He'll be long gone.
  22. I read we just got $3M in cap space. The only risk is there will be dead money if he is continually hurt, other than that, the deal is cap friendly.
  23. Most of the guys on the boards are excited about it. The deal is cap friendly for Ravens. He's getting $45M with about $22M guaranteed. He has only played 2 full seasons out of 4 so his camp knew he wasn't getting the mega bucks elsewhere. Oz played the market perfectly. Getting Marcus Peters would give Ravens a top shut down duo, albeit Peters baggage, which is getting kicked off Wash's team for being a hot head.
  24. It will be the best available OT and watch the boards go into a meltdown of atomic proportions.
  25. Good point about Mel but someone will take him and Gurley in the first round and Ravens have interviewed him twice brining him in here for a workout so they are interested but if someone like Dupree or Shane Ray drop it will be one of them. Hey - I wanted Ron Dayne from Wisconsin in the Jamal draft because Jamal was injury prone and sure enough he cost us a 2d SB trophy going out on the first day of camp. Ozzie always said we would have won 2 SBs but Shannah Sharpe always says we should have won w/o Jamal but the team lost it's swagger. Meanwhile Dyne did nothing in the pros. Could this happen to Gordon.
