cravnravn Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Anybody else feel like this is Adam Lowen all over again? His rehab is going well he's throwing at 70% but not off a mound. Maybe it's me but I get a bad feeling with 21 year olds and arm/elbow surgery. Quote
dc. Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Loewen was troubling before his elbow issues and never had Tommy John - it was all stress fractures and other weird issues. Tommy John on the other hand is now almost "normal" surgery - huge success rate - it just takes a while to come back. Bundy is actually ahead of his rehab schedule. He's not supposed to be pitching off a mound yet. He'll be pitching for real by June and probably on the team by the end of the season. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 TJ is not a big deal anymore. I was watching Neil DeGrasse Tyson on Fox Sports net and he said it takes twice the energy to throw 100 mph as opposed to 70 mph. I can see how power pitchers can throw their arms off now. Quote
dc. Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The bigger issue leading to injury is not being multi sport athletes anymore. This is increasingly true of increased injury rates in all sports. It's not just the extra stress - as in a kid is throwing 5x as many innings by age 18, if not more, because they play baseball in all seasons - it's also that not playing other sports means "support" muscles are not being developed to help you with your one specialized tax. As for Tommy John surgery - it's so common that healthy players are considering it to increase arm strength because the success rate is making it seem safe. And that's not just true of TJ in arms for baseball - the same surgery can be done in many sports for many ligaments. Quote
