Cincinnati Bengals benefit from LB Burfict's maturation

CINCINNATI – The Beast goes home to his girlfriend and two dogs he could hide in one hip pad.

When he's not slamming his own teammates in noncontact drills, The Beast could be at the golf course, trying to keep his 300-yard tee shots from straying to Batesville.

"You come home, and you're a different gentleman," decided Brandie LaBomme, The Beast's girlfriend.

It could be the first time anyone ever has referred to Vontaze Burfict as a gentleman.

That's not to say he isn't. For all anyone knows, the Cincinnati Bengals linebacker gives up his seat on the bus and reads Emily Dickinson to shut-ins. But a player who ka-booms his own teammates in noncontact drills isn't always going to be regarded as gentlemanly.

What's next for Burfict, finger sandwiches and a night at the opera?
