The Ravens knocked off the Steelers without the services of left tackle Eugene Monroe or defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan, but they may get both players back for their trip to New England on Saturday afternoon.

Coach John Harbaugh said Monday that he expects to have both players back on the practice field when the Ravens get back to work on Tuesday. A return to practice now doesn’t guarantee that they’ll be in the lineup for the Patriots, but getting to work early in the week certainly bodes well on that front.

A return for Monroe would leave the Ravens with another decision to make on the offensive line. James Hurst has filled in for Monroe the last two weeks and could go to right tackle, where the Ravens are missing Rick Wagner. The Ravens could also choose to keep Marshal Yanda at right tackle and John Urschel at right guard rather than moving Yanda back to his old position.

Jerningan’s return would give the Ravens another body to throw into the fray againstTom Brady. Haloti Ngata’s return would likely put him in a reserve role and Jernigan, who is dealing with knee trouble, has the interior pass rush ability to make an impact.

Monroe has missed the past two weeks due to an ankle injury. The Ravens won both games with undrafted rookie James Hurst and protected quarterback Joe Flacco well. Monroe, however, would bring back the continuity and run strength on the left side of the line.

If Monroe is able to return against the Patriots, Hurst could slide to right tackle or the Ravens may opt to keep Marshal Yanda at right tackle and rookie fifth-round pick John Urschel at right guard.

Jernigan suffered an ankle/foot injury in the regular-season finale against Cleveland and missed Saturday’s game in Pittsburgh. Jernigan was replaced by defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, who came back from suspension and played well while notching one sack.

If Jernigan can return against the Patriots, it would give the Ravens another force getting pressure inside and in the face of quarterback Tom Brady. The second-round Florida State product has 23 tackles and four sacks this season. He had 10 tackles and two sacks in his three starts in place of Ngata.http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Eugene-Monroe-Timmy-Jernigan-Could-Return-In-New-England/69f47466-9152-4a38-887a-c49af9e1c92f
