Pats release AThomas

It's too bad AD burned bridges when he left Baltimore... guys like McFadden/Foote return to Pittsburgh, JT returns to Miami... but we can't bring back a guy like AD because he had to get into it with Ray-Ray.

What happened? I don't remember that. Funny how yet another LB that was lights out here wasn't nearly as good in terms of production when they left. His stats dropped off dramatically.

What happened?

A few months after Thomas left the Ravens in 2007, he took a swipe at Ravens coach Brian Billick and his ex-teammates, saying his former team has "a star-studded system" and no one on the Patriots "beats his chest."

Ray Lewis then responded, saying, "When you take a shot at men that you claim to love to go to war with, I call those cowards. If you got something to say privately, you don't have to go to a newspaper. If you got something to say to a man, speak it."

Thomas joins an unspectacular list

Adalius Thomas, who was released by the New England Patriots, joined a group of ex-Raven defensive players who failed to live up to expectations after leaving the team.

Thomas certainly helped the Patriots in his first season, when the Patriots went 18-1. But the pairing that everyone lauded at the time – Thomas' versatility in Bill Belichick's creative system – soon became a mismatch in personalities. Ultimately, the Patriots would only get three seasons out of Thomas and his franchise-record free-agent deal.

This isn't the first time that a Ravens' homegrown defensive starter has disappointed another team. It seems like only linebacker Bart Scott has lived up to the hype, and that's because he reunited with former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan.

Here's a list of those players who flopped for other teams after making names for themselves with the Ravens:
