vmax Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 They made the Final Four out of 64 teams! It’s enough to disabuse even the most paranoid Baltimore sports fan of the notion that his or her favorite team doesn’t get enough respect: The Ravens’ Super Bowl-winning team has made a run to the Final Four of the “Greatest Team of All-Time” contest unfolding at NFL.com. In the spirit of the season, the folks at the league’s website selected what they felt were the 64 best teams in the Super Bowl era (since 1966), arranged them in a bracket, and asked fans to vote for a winner in each matchup. The 2000 Ravens were seeded ninth in the “Don Shula Bracket” – pretty low in my opinion – but prevailed over the 2001 Patriots in the first round to advance to a matchup against the bracket’s top seed, the undefeated 1972 Dolphins. The Ravens scored the “upset” there, then also eliminated the 1991 Redskins and 1998 Broncos to win the regional. To repeat: Only four teams are still standing out of the original 64, and the 2000 Ravens are one of them. They’re up against the 1984 San Francisco 49ers in a Final Four semifinal matchup, taking on a team that went 18-1 with Joe Montana at quarterback. The matchup has sparked a huge debate at the site, with 464 comments as of Wednesday morning. The other Final Four matchup pits the Mike Ditka’s 1985 Bears of “Super Bowl Shuffle” fame – the only No. 1 seed left and the probable favorite at this point -- against the 1976 Raiders. Fans can vote here until Wednesday at 5 p.m., as well as listen to NFL.com's Adam Rank predict that the Ravens would get creamed.http://www.csnbaltimore.com/blog/ravens-talk/post/Big-love-for-Super-Bowl-Ravens?blockID=678464&feedID=6703 They would have broke Montana's legs. Sorry...Rodger Craig would have averaged 1.2 ypc...maybe. Quote
