Sunday-
Throughout camp, tight end Isaiah Likely has been a frequent playmaker; today, he was on another level. Repeatedly, Lamar Jackson found Likely in both 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 work, and their chemistry was on full display. Twice, Jackson connected with Likely for a touchdown, with multiple other passes gaining yards and moving the chains. Head coach John Harbaugh said Likely has put together a “fantastic training camp.”
“Another great day. Connected on a bunch of deep balls out there, he’s been spectacular with the route-running details,” Harbaugh said. “I feel like the timing has been fantastic with him. He’s just a very special athlete.”
The deep ball has been the crux of Jackson’s critics, and something the Ravens have worked to improve in training camp. Today, Jackson delivered his best practice going deep. Along with his connections to Likely, Jackson hit wide receiver Zay Flowers in stride along the boundary for a sizable gain and later in the practice when he gave wide receiver Sean Ryan a 50-50 ball against cornerback Marlon Humphrey, and Ryan delivered.
Unfortunately, Jackson’s best deep ball of training camp was a drop from Nelson Agholor. On the fourth play of practice, Jackson launched a rainbow across the field as Agholor gained multiple yards of separation from his defender running in the middle of the field. The placement of Jackson’s pass connected with Agholor in-stride, but he couldn’t secure the ball. When the ball hit the grass, so too did Jackson’s helmet in frustration.
During the final portion of 11-on-11s, Jackson once more found Agholor deep, who couldn’t haul in the pass along the sideline. Jackson once more expressed frustration.
