  1. Just to throw this out here is it maybe Flacco who can't make the hot reads and not the wr? I do agree Caldwell came from a no huddle system so you would think he would prefer hot routes. I think every OC wants hot routes.

except he did throw them prior, as I said, when he had a few experienced receivers.

  2. do you have proof that our WR's could not make proper reads in practice and that is the reason the past 2 years we've had no hot reads.

Yes, every team, every team, has what is called hot reads, a favorite of Caldwell as well. He has designed plays to draw a blitz from an area and throw to said area. Since he does enjoy using those plays & the Ravens did not run then this past season nor much the season before, this means that the receivers, who continued to run improper routes, let alone hot reads, were not doing well in practice with them either. See, if you can't do it in practice, you can't call the play.

Again, it is pretty clear if you know what you are watching....

  3. I never said you had the same argument , stupid , i said you two were doing the same thing, blaming someone before a snap has been played. Rasta is blaming Joe and you're blaming the WR's.

No, let me see if I can explain this for you. He is blamming Joe, he does not think Joe can run a west coast offense, doesn't think Joe is a good quarterback, used a lack of hot reads and over use, in his opinion, of dump off passes as his proof.

I am saying the reason for no hot reads this past season and even the season before, to some extent, is because the receivers then, could not make the proper reads in practice, thus, those play calls, by Caldwell, were never used.

I never said the receivers could not or would not work in a west coast system. I will ignore you other post since it clearly comes from the crayon forum.

  4. Aaaah vindication. I still hold that if Kubiack introduces his version of the WCO, Joe Flacco will once again be reduced to dump off Flacco.

Not qute Sherlock,,, Look up Foster's numbers, his receptions under Kubs, as I said earlier, some plays are designed to go to the running back, even in the west coast offense, 40, 53, 66 receptions from 2010-2012, even last season, injury marred and 3 qbs, he had 22 in 8 games..... Thanks for playing, it has been fun....

  5. oh so you are talking about the year rice lead the team with 76 receptions.

Yes, when the Ravens had experienced receivers who could read defenses. Even though Rice lead the team, does not take away from my assertion; if the recievers can't make the proper read, the offense goes no where. A lot of those receptions for Rice were designed plays, but the average Flacco basher would not know that nor comprehend this fact.

As for the same arguement comment, no, there is quite the difference between what I am stating and what rasta is; sorry if it goes over the heads of some folks....

  6. In 2012 Rice finished second on the team with 61 receptions.

Yes, my bad, I was speaking of the 2011 season with Housh and Evans, but had specifically, the 2012 playoff games for some reason... There, were the Ravens used a lot of "west coast" routes to make a run, only to have Evans drop the game winner in the AFC championship game.

Today, there are many terms over used by pundits and fans, from elite to west coast. The very thing rasta is debating, the team maybe not having the players to run a west coast offense, mor eimportantly Joe not being able to run one, is the issue. He simply points out Joe, but the important part is having receivers, ends, who can read the defense properly. If they don't, it matters not who is the quarterback; westcoast is a timing offense.

There are ways to beat the westcoast and the main thing is press coverage, breaking up the timing of the receivers. Something this team struggles with. So it would not be Joe, but the receivers.

  7. Perhaps your interests would be better served by actually watching Ravens games. 2012 was another Ray Rice dump off season. When you're dumping the ball off to backs without involving WR's that's a failed WCO scheme.

I guess you missed the quick slants, the crossing routes, the hot reads by Evans and Housh and company.... but then, you apparently miss alot when all you focus on is Joe's footwork..... You are barking up the wrong tree here....

Oh and since you might not be old enough to remember the 49ers under Montanna and Young, they threw a lot of short passes ans screens to the backs, it was a staple of, wait for it, Bill Walsh's system, you know, the West Coast offense....

  8. No one runs a true WCO these days. However, Joe Flacco will be required to master the 2 to 3 step drop. He will be required to quickly recognize the hot read ( it's gonna have to be more than Ray Rice ) and he's going to have yo somehow acquire a quick release. In short, all the tools we now know after 6 years he does not possess.

I guess you didn't watch much of the 2012 season, huh? They used a lot of 3 step, and less drops with Joe utilizing the hot read, mostly to Evans, whe he was healthy. The difference between that season & this past one is that the Ravens had rookie or young receivers this past one, who could not make the proper reads in practice, so they would not risk it in games. Hot reads are not just up to the quarterback, but also and especially the receivers.

This past season and even the Super Bowl season they used more of the quick outs, 3 step drops, and wr screens, catch & throw, or step & throw... Make sure to pay attention more to games...You are showing your lack of understanding of the game and even the team with each post.

  9. Wow harsh...

Yes, but true, look up Engrams record, starting coaching what, two years ago? This is a team with young receivers, he may or may not be a good coach, but he would be best suited with experienced receivers.... Time will tell.

  10. Grain of salt..... Wisconsin has always had a great running game, going back before Hammock's time there; it is their line, their system and who was the last Wisconsin runningback to make it big in the NFL? Be more than a back up runningback? That shows you it is their system, their line....

Being a former player, such as Engram, does not make one a good coach, or even a coach who can develop a player. Engram was barely an NFl quality receiver and has very, very limited coaching experience. It is more likely the receivers continue to struggle, he never was able to get off of bump & run coverage.............

  11. Yeah, it was pretty evident from the start to anyone who understands the locker room, or even how close friends joke around. His, Martin's, little trip to the ER was a ploy by his parents, lawyer/agent for a lawsuit and to bolster his case.

However, since the release of ALL the texts between the two, Martin is looking more & more like the liar, the baby. He can blame his agent all he wants, but he, himself, has stated that Incognito was being abusive bullying him.

So, I wonder if the race baiters will now back track and apologize to Richie, I doubt it.

  12. Comp picks are a crap shoot, the comp draft is not until what June? If we go into the April draft with only 4 picks, rest assure Oz trades out of the first for more picks.

No, comp picks are used during the draft, but cannot be traded. The slim number of picks the Ravens have lead me to believe they will trade down. I know they are counting on the comp picks being good, Ozzie has mentioned them a few times. Even so, they need a little more help than they have picks and this is a deep draft in the areas they need help.

You are thinking of the Supplimental draft for college players cleared to be drafted after the draft is over, usually because of injury or accedemic reasons. Yes, that "draft" is a waste, rarely is a decent role player found, let alone a good one.

  13. Have a vaca but get your ass to work. I don't see marines getting he hasn't had a chance to be with his kids. They have a job to do and they are expected to do it.

Again, I stated it in relation to you and a few others complaing about not hearing from him on this new hire, not in relation to him working hard or not. Just because our local media has not asked for his opinion on the matter does not mean he has not given one, nor that he is not in talks with Kubs. But go ahead, bash away on something you know nothing about.

As for marines, yes, we see it every day, bet we see it today during the supe bowl, the folks not being able to see their families because they enlisted and are serving over seas.....

  14. Wow...

right? I have to explain it? My kids comment was in regards to why Joe may not have made a statement or been on television, radio, etc about the new hire. Heaven forbid he have a vaccation away from fans and media and get some family time. I mean, plumbers, dock workers, even police get vaccation time, I guess people on tv shouldn't have a life outside of their jobs.... Does the season start tomorrow? How on earth will Joe be ready, o ma gosh....

  15. i don't care how many kids Joe has, he better learn the new playbook. The ravens didn't pay him 62 million over 3 years for him to half-step about learning the new system, he already doesn't look too good with that stunt he pulled when Tyrod was getting snaps in the jets game. now if he can't comprehend or won't put in the time to comprehend a new system, it'll let the ravens fanbase know that it was all about the money.

He has learned a new system a few times already in his 6 years in the league. What makes you think he won't or even can't learn another one? Jeepers.....

  16. Soooooooooooo, that means you buy into the story that John Harbaugh " miraculously " found Kubiack after hours..er..days ..er.. weeks of conversations between the two?

Excuse me, but if you read what I have posted about this topic, well before Byrne made his statement you will see I pretty much said what he stated. No, I do not believe everything everyone, Byrne included, says, but I know the team, the people involved better than most fans. I know how Preston and Lombardi work, how they get their stories, how their main motive is todrive conversation, good or bad about THEM, because it makes them money.

I have backed up my claims with articles, have you? No, every time some one asks you for the direct quote, you change the subject, get defensive, why?

Facts- Kubs wanted to be a head coach again. There were several teams in need of a new head coach. He wanted to see about those jobs before looking at the oc job with other teams. The Ravens were interested in him from the start, they made, as every team does, a list of new oc as soon as the season ended and Caldwell told them he wanted to interview for head coaching jobs.

More Facts- While they waited for Kubs to posibly be hired as a head coach, they interviewed many, many candidates. ALL TEAMS DO THIS. They, as an organization, wanted to go with a zone blocking scheme, the league is moving in that direction, so they wanted an OC who coached that way; thus their final candidates. Kubs wanted to come here as an oc when he did not get any shots at a head coach position- HIS WORDS.

Cleveland did not want to have Kubs have total say over the offfensive staff, so talks with them broke down. Shannahan was their (the Ravens) top choice and they vetted him properly-As every team would. He was their final choice up to the point Kubs was in final talks with the Browns. Dennison, HIS WORDs, backs all of this up and stated Kubs the job here, thus, opening up talks, AGAIN, just as they had to begin this process, with Kubs and he was hired.

These are facts as told by Steve, Ozzie, John, Kubs, Dennison and yes, along with Byrne. Again, Check my posts, the dates of them, you will see I outlined the likely way this went down, before it was made known. Not because I have insider info, but because I know how teams, including the Ravens, go through their process of looking for coached. Thus, I do not doubt it happend very close to the way portrayed by the Ravens, because that is how business in the NFL is done.

  17. Defense wins championships, it's not going to be as close as you think, 31-17 Hawks

I could see that, frankly I am torn. Wilson's ability to extend plays ala David Kreig, Fran Tarkington give me pause when trying to pick the Broncos. Add in Harvin & his return ability.

Even so, four wide outs, 3 of them over 6'-2" and Manning is very hard to pick against.

  18. Since the Preston piece came out, both Lombardi and Byrne have changed their stories. Each version more ridiculous than the last. I smell sweat and a lame attempt to cover ass. Preston had it right from the start.

Byrne has not changed his story, not in the context you speak. He has given more detail about what and how it all came together. Since Preston's story, anothe Sun reporter has come out and pretty much backed up what the Ravens have said, not Preston. And Tony has done nothing but back track as well.

See, he gets paid per click, so even if he reports something that is wrong, he gets paid. When he has to print a retraction, he gets paid and people think; how stand up he is for admitting he was wrong. Like Preston, he knows, bad publicity is still publicity.
