7-0 Ravens, just over 10 mins left in the first

  11. Keep in mind, the injuries to the line, both tackles, a center, even a guard got nicked up. This, all while playing some very good defenses.

Especially ones with very good run defenses, outside rush backers.

While Detroit has Hutchensen, the Ravens have had plenty of "practice" this year with dynamic edge rushers, so hopefully Moses, Stanley, etc are good & ready.

I do believe that this offense is on the cusp, with the line now a game into being fully healthy, if the wind isn't too bad Sunday, that they are ready to break out, a game of 150+ ruahing, 200+ passing and few if any turnovers.

  12. Well, to be fair, a lineman misses a block, a penalty for holding, the offense is faced with third and forever.

That has happened numerous times in the 2nd half, the 3rd quarter leading to a few 3 & outs.

    Who is at fault?

Sure, some of that is on the stubbornness to get the run game going, not a bad idea, but it too can lead to a 3 & out.

We've seen them pile up, before we know it, the 3rd quarter is over and they have gained what 10 yards total?

Blame the play calling or the players, plenty of blame to go around.

Come out throwing, no one open, an errant pass, a sack. 3 & out again, who is to blame?

What patterns were called? Why was a block missed that lead to a sack? Who was responsible for the blocking calls? Did Lamar miss a blitz? Did he audible from the initial call?

So many things go into why a series was only 3 plays, including the defenses making adjustments at half time, changing coverages, rush patterns...

  13. Of late

    https://www.nfl.com/news/ravens-oc-todd-monken-recognizes-red-zone-struggles-we-just-have-to-do-a-better-

The Baltimore Ravens offense, like many across the NFL this season, has bogged down in the red zone of late, scoring touchdowns on just two of their last nine trips, including 1 of 6 in a Week 6 win over Tennessee in London.

With the red area struggles, offensive coordinator Todd Monken expected questions on the subject this week.

"It starts with how we game plan it, how we call it, and then how we execute it," Monken responded Thursday, via the team's official website. "It's really that simple. We did an elite level early on and executed down there being able to run it in. We just have to do a better job of -- like I said -- scheming it, do a better job of executing it when we have those opportunities.

"We've done a good job the last couple of weeks of moving the football. That has not been the issue. We've solved some of those things in terms of being more explosive; creating our own identity; having a better rhythm. But turnovers and execution at the wrong times have hurt us -- there's no way around it. You've seen it, and we have to be better, and we're capable of better. That's the way it is, we are capable of it."

Last week, an ineffective rushing attack led to much of the red-zone troubles, as Baltimore was repeatedly stuffed in short-yardage situations.

Heading into Sunday's showdown with the 5-1 Detroit Lions, Monken, Lamar Jackson and the rest of the Ravens offense must answer whether the red-zone struggles were a two-week blip or a more systemic issue. During the first four weeks of the season, Baltimore went 12 of 15 in the red zone, the top percentage in the league over that span.

Baby steps, something wicked this ways comes, me thinks 🤔 😀

  14. Everyone was worried about the pass rush, what were the Ravens going to do to get pressure on the pocket, get sacks.

They stand tied for the league lead with 24 sacks, many, many more pressures.

If they can keep that up, Clowney has been an animal fighting the pocket, VanNoy and Mabeke as well, we might see a lot of turnovers from Goff.

  15. I don't think they will be able to afford Queen, I think they can find a version of Queen in the draft, maybe even via free agency cheep. Like Ray, Agent 0 will make his playing partner better.

Stone, now there is a good question. Williams has just been snake bit since coming here, when he has played, wow, excellent. But he hasn't played many games because of serious injuries, not just those pesky nit picking ones.

Stone clearly had learned a lot from Williams, he has upped his game 10 fold over the past 2 seasons. Whether as a safety in coverage or down in the box, as a slot corner, he is a Leatherman (yes better than a Swiss army knife).

I think and would agree, they will try to pay Stone, maybe even at the expense of cutting Williams if they have to for cap reasons.

There are a few very good safeties in the draft, see that as cheap.

  16. I think the offense is slowly coming into its own. We've seen glimpses of it over the past five games. They have scored first in every game, some with opening drives, some with touchdowns others with field goals.

Red zone to start was outstanding, some hiccups lately, maybe play calling at fault, maybe performance, dropped passes, missed open receivers, lack of patience/ vision in running.

They have no truly been at full strength until this past game, just needed to knock the rust off.

Could the Ravens offense being on the cusp of dominating? Putting a full game together?

No doubt this defense will be tested as never this year, but Goff has shown, if you pressure him he will toss a pick or two...

  17. Yes, not sure how this team will respond to playing right after a London game. Teams are not only lethargic when playing over seas, but they also have to deal with the trip back. Will the team's choice not to take their bye week now come back to bite them like a lion on a gazelle? So who are the Lions?

Detroit is riding high, over performing to some, but they are their record, 5-1, 5th offensively averaging 259.5 per games through the air, with 11 tds to 3 picks, Goff has been sacked 10 times. They are averaging 124.2, on the ground, 4.0 per carry, with 9 rushing tds

Defensively, they are 18th against the pass, 221 yards via the pass,  allowing 8 tds, with 6 picks, and 15 sacks and 64.7 rushing yards per game. They are holding teams to 18.8 pts per game, and to 33% on 3rd downs. They are 7th in total defense.

Of Note; they have won 4 in a row, all by 14 pts or more

  18. One other note on the refs. 4th quarter, under 2 mins, Willis tries to run around the left edge and is finally tackled around the 3 yard line. There is a blocking in the back penalty on them, 10 loss. It should also carry, because the clock was moving, a 10 second runoff. But there was no runoff. Titans were out of timeouts, and there is no way the Ravens would have denied the runoff. Just more of the refs being off their game.

  19. Wow, what a game! The team controlled the entire first half. The only pts for the Titans, a field goal came thanks to a terrible pi on Williams who has a right to stand his ground and go for the ball. Just as Gene, I can fit a playing card in here Testatore said.

Lamar missed a a couple chances in the red, red zone first not seeing Andrews open for 6, instead throwing it away. Another red, red zone chance in the first half had Lamar on a qb keeper, had he been patient, the inside run was open for 6, but he got impatient and ran outside. The result, more Tucker who kicked not one but 6 field goals.

The refs, either let them play or call it for both teams. This illegal touching is a legit call, but the Titans were guilty of it too. Only one call for the Ravens and five or so for the Titans is not good at all.

In facts, all of the Titans points came thanks to these over blown calls.

The defense for the Ravens, wow, what pressure on Tanneoverthehill, Clowny and VanNoy were renting time in the pocket, Good to see them both finally get a couple of sacks, in the 4th quarter!!!! Madebeke, Jones, Pierce as well. That roughing on him was bogus, he pulled off as best he could, that was a sympathy flag.

Lamar, yes, he wad great even with the two misses in the first quarter. That movement in the pocket, finding Flowers for 6, Andrews for 40, Obj with a catch and run for 40, is what we have waited for!

That puck, on him or Bateman, who gave a half hearted attempt at catching it, we will never know whose fault it was.

Special teams, outstanding, coverage, that huge return to keep momentum going in the first half! But another blocked kick, on a pat, they have to fix that.

All in all, I thought they might blow the lead, the win the way they played in the 3rd quarter, but they brought it in the 4th to finish the Titans off, despite the officials.

On to the Lions, I wish they had taken the bye week, but at least it is at home.

Stone makes another great pick to thwart a comeback attempt. Williams would have had one too is he could use his left arm....
