  1. Sorry Cravn, I don't agree about the Uni's and I somewhat understand where you're coming from with everything else. I lived on E 32nd St and the lights from Old Memorial shined in my room during night games. I miss it but I associate it with my childhood. I hated that they tore Memorial down. I came home from Ft Campbell and it was gone. But I've been a ravens fan from 1998 and was hardcore by 1999. I love the colors and seeing the state flag incorporated in it. It's been 16 years. So I identify with the Ravens. History is being made now to add to Colts history. But the old Horseshoe was great for it's time. It's the Ravens time now.

  2. From every factual account I have ever read the two moves and owners had a lot in common. A lot of fans want to think Irsay was evil and Art was a good man screwed by Cleveland. The book "Glory For Sale" by Sun reporter Jon Morgan was the best account I ever read. They both wanted new stadiums and beneficial lease deals so they both moved. Modell told Cleveland he was OK with waiting for a new stadium. Then a series of deals he made were not as lucrative as he thought and a lot of his other businesses outside football were hurting so suddenly he needed cash.

The whole coordinated move with Art and Lerner was fishy. Now beyond the move Art was an important owner and usually thought of as a good guy so the similarities with Irsay end there.

Overall I am glad the Colts moved and as soon as they played one game in Indy I never wanted the name or colors back. Good riddance.

If not the Browns some team would have moved here. When Tags and JKC kept us from getting the expansion they left an offer sit that was too good for many teams to pass up.

true that we were probably eventually going to get a new team but Modell didn't hijack the Browns and bring them to Bmore. Cleveland had shots and built other things first. I understand that the book you read may have shone light on similarities but 95 % of what you read concerning the two moves tell you that irsay was unstable and tried to strong arm the city and state into his desires. Memorial wasn't falling apart and the city was beginning to lay plans to refurbish the Inner Harbor but it wasn't the same deal as Cleveland. The O's were in the same stadium so it's not like the city treated them better. Modell tried to wait his turn and he just couldn't. And he and the league did right by Cleveland and left colors and history to start anew in Baltimore. Did Irsay even consider that? I doubt it. I've seen his drunken rants and heard him slur 'I said I wouldn't move the G-- DAMNED Team!' Only he did that very thing in the cover of night like a thief. No these are different stories.

  3. I remember it well......Sitting there stunned and thinking, how can you just take an NFL team and run off in the night, legally.....I still have never figured out or heard any explanation why the majority of owners agreed to this move....That had to happen for it to be approved by the league....What did it benefit them at the time ????.....I can only guess that they thought the market was better there and the new stadium would be a bigger draw and tv ratings and such.....But what about the controversy it caused, and the disdain of fans and the lack of character stain on the league for approving a gangster move like that on a proven city.....Still baffled today, but I love my Ravens and wouldn't trade back now....Much respect and honor to the old hero's , welcome to the new world.....It's Purple Powered Now....

I didn't get it either. We were hijacked. And they didn't have the decency to leave the colors and name. I really believed the league hated us by about 1990. Then there was the Washidelphia statement by Tags when we didn't get the Jags. (Actually not sure if Tags really said it or just implied it). But the Ravens have fixed it for me and then some. Stevie B will never take this team out of Bmore. Purple powered indeed my friend!
  4. Just my two cents, I was a youngster then. I've been a Ravens fan longer than I was a Colts fan now. And the Ravens earned it from me. They are my favorite team of any team in any sport. They reflect Baltimore. When we got them, the lil boy in me wanted them to be the colts but it worked out. The uniforms are better. The stadium is better. The city is better. The atmosphere is better. The colt history is still ours. Johnny U, Art, and the rest of the old school guys said so. And now we have new legends and personalities to add to that rich history. I love the Ravens and I love Baltimore!

  5. True, but I wasn't referring to playing just for us or considering anyone's team needs....Just should one be treated any differently than the other before they could play again, even though they both were multi violators.....One have to go through therapy and league wide ridicule and the other a slap on the wrist and told to behave himself......

The humanity in us is going to cause us to treat people differently
  6. School, I saw the debate about Incognito. But I believe in 2nd chances and I believe that you make sure that the rope you give is a choke chain. If an offense is repeated, we know what to do. You can't lock yourself into anything. If McClain comes back, all terms have to be beneficial to the Ravens. If he was a player and stayed out of trouble, you work out something better after a yr or two. We do have to protect ourselves.

  7.

Explain how this year isn't looking promising?[/quote.]

How did they improve by bringing in a old WR? Ray Rice is on a serious decline due to overuse. Flacco is a different qb from quarter.

A bit of an exaggeration. Steve smith is older but if he just puts up last year's numbers, it would help Joe greatly. And last yr Smith Sr didn't have a Torrey Smith or Jacoby Jones pulling coverage away from him. The jury is still out on Ray Rice. And Joe had a horrible season yet still nearly made the playoffs and didn't have a losing season. Joe will bounce back. We changed some things and kept what we needed to. And Ozzie ain't done. I suggest you worry about your western PA team.

  8. How does that work that the team could handle it?

He has been suspended already. It can't happen twice.

History shows the Ravens handling these situations. When a player has problems, the Ravens work with players that they deem worth the risk. They are usually right. If a player isn't worthy, they let them go without fan fare and move on . Just watch how this Ray Rice thing plays out. Go back to Ray Lewis and everything in between. Also this is a locker room thing and the ravens don't do the hazing out of control thing. Hey that's how I see it. It's easy to disagree but as far as I know there's never been a locker room implosion in Bmore.

  9. anyone that knows me knows I don't attack other cities unless provoked as we all love where we come from. That includes crave that's why I said nice try at the end

I don't take it personal. Cravn is just rattling your cage tho. Still funny. I was just adding my 2 cents
  10. I'd welcome back smashmouth running attack. Haven't had a hammer since Jamal Lewis. Really like the kid from BC - Andre Williams - I believe is his name.

yeah I'm with you on that. Tough runner with knockdown stiff arms
  11. Blount is alright. I wouldn't wAnt the steelers to get him but the steelers aren't smash mouth anymore and frankly, neither are we. I think we have the personnel to be that way and I'd welcome it back. Harbs is talking about being physical but I don't know.
