Oldschool739 Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Can you provide links to your examples? They're on your board in several different threads....I'm not gonna snitch on them, I just would like to know why I'm being singled out for such a normal and non-offensive few words while real vulgar and offensive words are over looked.....Hey football season is at the door, and I need to know if I need to stay in the Smack forum away from these trigger happy mods or not, cause meek and easy just don't work for me.....lol 3 Quote
deeshopper Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I'm not going to go searching for things that you are pointing out. If you don't want to provide examples, I can't help you. Generally speaking, the use of the words used in a discussion is appropriate while using them to personally attack someone is not. Once again, you have the option of reporting abusive posts. We are all volunteers here. We can not and will not monitor every post around the clock. There are tools available to you that you can utilize instead of continually admonishing the people who have chosen to use a part of their free time without pay or thanks to keep topics in line and discussions moving. One of thse tools is to use the report link automatically attached to each and every post. You may also ignore the user, so you no longer their posts. You can do that by:Click on your username at the top, upper right of any page.Click on the Manage Ignore Prefs from the dropdown menu that appears.Enter the username you wish to ignore.Unfortunately, we can't ban people for being foolish or stupid, so I've used this plenty of times to ignore the foolish and stupid. If the user posts in a thread to you are reading, you will have the option to view individual posts of the user. However, they will be hidden, and you'll need to confirm that you wish to read that particular post. Also, if someone quotes a user you have blocked, you'll be able to see that post. Quote

Sorry I can't help you beyond the general explanation I've given you.We must be on two different wave lengths or something, I don't take it personal at all....You seemed to be annoyed by my question so I said forget about it...Ain't no biggie, It's just a past time football forum, who really takes this stuff serious anyway? .....It's football season, Let the banter begin !! 2 Quote
deeshopper Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I'm not annoyed. Not sure how you got that from my response. When you write something like: But I was just asking a legitimate question in the proper forum, trying to get a meaningful answer......How dare me, what was I thinking ????? that is saying that your question hasn't been answered (or the answer provided is meaningless), and that you've taken offense with the answer I've provided you. I'm trying to answer your question, but can only do so generally because you haven't provided examples. Quote

dc. Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 In addition to Dee's explanation, I would also point out that mod action against members is not public.Other members may be receiving communication without your knowledge. And I would reiterate Dee's primary point: the issue addressed by mods is not language so much as context. "Foul language" used in passing context or in the context of a thread is generally permitted (if not advised). Use of such language in an attack is generally unpermitted. Finally, as explained prior, your warn was not issued for your language. The language was cited to give you reference to the thread. Your warn was issued for a series of posts that were deemed as exclusively attacking, and not on topic. Quote
dc. Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Sorry, I thought an example would be helpful here... you asked:They're on your board in several different threads....I'm not gonna snitch on them, I just would like to know why I'm being singled out for such a normal and non-offensive few words while real vulgar and offensive words are over looked.....Hey football season is at the door, and I need to know if I need to stay in the Smack forum away from these trigger happy mods or not, cause meek and easy just don't work for me.....lol For an example: Saying "John Harbaugh must be mentally challenged. I can't believe that play call. We always make the same mistakes and he always lets our guys get away with it. What a fucking mistake." --> generally acceptable. Saying "[boardmember], you must be mentally challenged. Get a life." --> generally NOT acceptable. Perhaps you can get away with it for a post. If the discussion devolves into this kind of tit-for-tat, it will likely catch the mod's attention. Quote

I wasn't talking to you, I was having this conversation with the owner of the board, and again, I don't think she needs your over worded annoying analysis of every single word , to help her explain things.....She made her point and I made mine and the conversation was over....."Nice way to jump in on the end of a conversation and act like you have an opinion"...Now where did I hear that before ? gotcha !!!...I had to mod out your foul word above, that will be a 1 point warning....lol 3 Quote

Also if you dont want to see* any responses from me, it was explained to you how you could avoid that earlier in this very thread. *edited from "read" as I think "see" is more accurate Edited August 19, 2013 by Spen 1 1 Quote
dc. Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 If you wanted a private conversation, you shouldn't have posted in a public forum. I was not defending Dee. I was adding a level of clarity: you are not being singled out, you just do not see the actions taken against others (as they don't see them taken against you). Where have I heard the comment about jumping in on convos? Post #24 by OldSchool739: http://forums.extremeravens.com/topic/10990-still-think-im-overboard-with/page-2 I've already explained it several times, and you haven't been in this conversation since the beginning....If you had something to add, where have you been....Then you jump in here like the lone ranger to take dee's side.... you're a pretty sad moderator to have to resort to calling names when you can't win an argument...way to go big shot !!
