TBird Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 He didn't have to go vs Greg Hardy today who was on the exempt list but he had a good first game. Kubesalso had a TE,Gilmore, helping him out plus in the first qtr they ran to the right, away from Hurst. So Hurst wouldn't factor in on those plays anyway. Finally, in the second half they ran to his side and he was fine. He was rushedand pushed his man past Joe. I also saw him get into the second level especially on Taliaferror's TD run. He did well in the ZBS pushing his man off the line while moving to hisright. He wasn't drafted because he was injured, I think it was a broken legor something like that. Then 20 teams tried to sign him at once. Hechose the Ravens because he knew they had o-line probs last year andthat was the best chance of making the team. Man, did he do his home workor what-lol. He not only made the team but started his first game and did well. I cansee him being the LT some day, especially if he continues to developand Ravens don't want to re-sign Monroe when his contract expires. Hurst was good in college and had 14 knock down blocks vs Miami, 12vs Middle Tenn and 14 more vs Old Dominion playing for NC. Cinci will be a big test for him if Monroe is still out. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I think he is a keeper. Yanda should be coming up on the end of his deal soon. Shuffle the line to let Hurst get on it an dlet Yanda walk. Maybe trade Yanda if you can. Quote
TBird Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 I forgot about Yanda and Hurst can play OG and RT too if there is an injury there. I forgot to mention that Castillo had a long history in Philly of taking non- or lowly-drafedo-linemen and making them stars. Last year Yanda was the only o-lineman smart enough to learn his ZBS and he ended up calling the line plays. This year Kubes simplified the ZBS and what a difference a year makes - heh. Hurst did well in the ZBS today. Quote
Robjr83 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I heard a star that we're double the rushing yards since this time last year. Gino, Shitly, and Oher being gone are the difference. How many false starts/ holding calls has the Oline had? Not many Quote
Tornado700 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Why would be possibly get rid of Yanda, our best guy? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 There is a salary cap. He will be an older player. You can't keep everyone. Yanda will not be the best player on the OL forever. Would you rather keep him and let KO go? KO is in yr 3 now. He will be an UFA after next yr. He will need to be paid soon. Quote
TBird Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 The Ravens were $4.1M under the CAP ceiling before Rice was cut. Theyare currently about $8M under the CAP but in Sep Rule 51 of the CBAkicked in and that number went down to it's current level of $3M. Yanda will be a priority as will Jimmy Smith. They just exercised the option tokeep him and pay him $9M pr yr. They can get them all done if they wanna. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 It's not this yr. You have to project yrs into the future. Rice has nothing to do with this. Joes deal gets out of control after next yr. That is the same yr KO will be a FA. So did they get them all done when they signed Ben Grubbs? I predicted what was going to happen to him a yr out from it. No difference here. Quote
TBird Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 So did I. We all knew Grubbs was leaving and they drafted KO who isapproaching Grubbs level and will if he is injury free. Rice has everything to do with it with $9.5M in dead money vs the CAP. They alwayssign who they want and Yanda will be a priority, especially with all the probs the linehad last year and now have been corrected. With the increase in CAP space Ravens should be in good shape to sign Yanda,if they want him. Anyway, I just looked it up and Yanda signed a $32M contract in 2011 for 5years so it doesn't expire until 2016 which means he's here for 2 more yearsincluding this year. Grubbs followed the money trail and wanted to leave. According to this articleYanda wants to retire here. There will be an increase of another $20M in CAPsavings by 2016 so Ravens can sign him if they want to. And Ngata will most likely be gone by then freeing up his $16M vs the CAP sothat will create more room to take care of Joe and a priority like Yanda if he isone. It's a moot point to be talking about it now. Here's the article. http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/2011/07/29/big-contract-wont-change-yanda/ Quote
TBird Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 Brian McFarland is the local CAP expert on the boards and he regularly goes on the radiowith his numbers. He told me this; Yanda has one more year on his deal. I would think they would look to sign him to an extension after the season to lower his 2015 Cap number and keep him around. Given that they've already given him one extension, I don't see this as a "Grubbs" type situation. I agree. Two different situations and times. Quote

Here's the article. http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/2011/07/29/big-contract-wont-change-yanda/ You'll get none, no one here stated that it would be easy. Grubbs, Flacco, and Rice get paid. Beyond that, let's start cutting. It's a fact of the NFL, I'm sure there will be slace to free up. Worry about roleplayers like Cary Williams after Grubbs is paid. Webb and Smith should be the starters next year at CB. They are the last two you show them the money to, let them dangle out there, teams aren't going to give a first rd pick for them, the main man here is Grubbs, you cant let him see March 1st unsigned, Rex Ryan will be camped out at his door if we do.You weren't here for the people and there were many more who thought Grubbs was staying. This was just from the FA when he was leaving. I predicted it a yr earlier. Rices dead money is next yr. KO is a FA in 2 yrs. That dead money is gone by then Also Yanda will be 32 that yr. You can't go giving him new money. You do realize that while the Ravens cap goes up so does everyone else. Other teams will have more money to overpay. It is math. You count 2011 as the first yr. His contract ends next yr.http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/marshal-yanda/ Yanda can want anything in the world. Heap wanted to retire a Raven. again people didn't think Grubbs was leaving either. Quote

TBird Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 No,that was the Center, Jason Brown who ended up in St Louis and Boller joined him. _________________________________________ Also Yanda will be 32 that yr.
