Executive Branch won't act but Congress does

Here's some hope. As Trump continues to ignore global warming and make it worse, it's good to know Congress won't. They are preparing to act on this asap once Trump is dumped.

Pelosi, D-Calif., hosted the virtual summit with her legislative leader counterparts from Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom. The purpose was to devise a strong international response to climate change, and address health and economic disparities.

"The climate crisis is the existential threat of our time, jeopardizing the health and well-being of every family in every community around the world," Pelosi and the world leaders wrote in their joint declaration. "Atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations in 2020 are among the highest averages ever recorded. The planet suffered through the second hottest year ever in 2019."

"As the Earth heats up, climate-related impacts, including heat waves, hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, and flooding, are worsening," they added.

Saturday's summit was to include virtual appearances from U2's Bono, the Dalai Lama, Jane Goodall, former Obama administration Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and former Secretary of State John Kerry.

Pelosi and her fellow legislative leaders agreed that climate change and the coronavirus pandemic require a robust government response as does environmental justice for economically vulnerable and frontline communities.

"Climate policy can end the perpetuation of systemic inequalities," the leaders wrote in their joint statement.

Pelosi, who links the raging wildfires on the West Coast to climate change, already said she plans to make climate legislation an early agenda item if Joe Biden and Democrats win in November.

This is how far out of touch Trump is...........

At a speech in Nevada over the weekend, Trump blamed the fires on poor forest management and boasted about the United States leaving the international climate agreement. He made a similar remark at a rally in August, saying, “You’ve got to clean your floors, you’ve got to clean your forests.”

On Sunday, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) pushed back on Trump’s characterizations, telling ABC News’s “This Week” that the devastation was the result of a combination of ills, including rising temperatures caused by global climate change.

“It’s just a big and devastating lie,” Merkley said of Trump’s statements. “The Cascade snowpacks have gotten smaller. Our forests have gotten drier. Our ocean has gotten warmer and more acidic.” The changes, Merkley added, are the “consequences of a warming planet.”

“We need to have to have a president follow the science,” he said.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) also accused Trump of negligence in responding to the fires. In an interview with CNN, he suggested the president was reluctant to help California, Oregon and Washington because they have Democratic governors.

“Leadership at the very top needs to be stronger, earlier,” Garcetti said, alleging that Trump’s “blaming of blue states over red states” in how he handles natural disasters hurts the federal response.

“We need leadership that is equal across this country, instead of being partisan and divisive,” Garcetti said..........https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/dense-smoke-smothers-pacific-northwest-shutting-residents-indoors-and-complicating-fire-response/ar-BB18Zsfr?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=U508DHP
