  1. Yes there have. Back in the early 70's a player died on the field, Likely because no one knew cpr nor were defibrillators invented yet that could be taken to the field. I would agree with you had he been shot or stabbed, or even if this happened in an on field fight. But players have been taken off unconscious, immobile because of spine injuries and yes, death.
  2. Some in the media are calling for it, why? The game has farmers reaching implications, it is, sad to say sure, bigger than the individual. I feel for his family, friends, teammates, but the game has to be played even if they move week 18 games back a week. There have been players carted off on stretchers, in ambulances before (my self included), there will be again. This is not a high-school game, players know the risks, they get paid big bucks for the risks. I am sorry if I sound crass or heartless, I am neither, but a loss ir win by either team means a lot to the playoff seatings..
  3. Yes, the time of the game is up in the air, it was going to be set after last night's game, if the Bengals lost, the game would be night time, a battle for the AFC North crown. But given the tragic circumstances last night, now that game has to be pushed back, to maybe tomorrow, Wednesday, or maybe even not until next week. So who knows, right now, what time the battle for the North will be, stay tuned. It is possible the Bengals enter the game on a short week. Edit to add, the league has said the Bill's vs Bengals game will not be this week, though the time of the Ravens vs Bengals game is still in question
  4. All three? Should Hewitt get the nod over Roman for oc? Is Hewitt the issue with the route combinations? They brought in wide receiver "specialists", yet there is little separation, they seem to take too long to get to the top of the routes. If there is a passing game coordinator, the 2nd one in recent year (Culley), and the passing game sucks, or has gone down hill, should they look elsewhere? Since game one the offense has sputtered to a slow death. This, despite playing against some of the worst teams, defenses in the league. Even before Lamar got hurt, the passing game was headed down hill with no brakes and a tight curve ahead. Why? The talking heads have broken down the route concepts, shown how terrible they are. We see other teams use routes to get a player open with great success. Yet neither Culley nor Hewitt can design plays to get a player open? All we have are stop routes five yards from each other? No over routes to draw a safety away? No good combination routes to force a corner into a difficult choice when in zone? Who chose either pass game coordinator? How much say do they have in the passing game? I've seen many pass game coordinators literally change an offense into a juggernaut, but not here... Something has to change, this is years of the same thing. Different passing game coaches, different wide receiver coaches, different wide receivers, differnt qbs, granted Huntley is terrible, but still the same results, yes, it is clear, Roman, as great as his run concepts are, he is the problem.
  5. Can you imagine if this defense had an offense, wow, Pittsburgh might have only scored 9 pts at most. Such a shame
  6. Grub, I am sorry for your loss and pray for you and your family.
  7. Welcome back! I think it still might be too early to Judge Eric, but yes, he has gambled on a few draft picks and so far, he has crapped out. Still scratching my head over the Kohlar pick, the Owe, and of course Ojaba. He can make up for them by locking up Smith, but if Smith walks, that will be a terrible mark on Eric
  8. I did not stay up for that crap show, so glad that I did not. I would say that I am shocked the defense gave up almost 200 yards on the ground, but then it was a night game, they only gave up 16 pts, held the opposing qb to 50% completion rate. Still, another game with a double digit lead, lost. Why? The offense ran for almost as many yards, JK with 111 on 17 carries. Huntely completed some passes, 1 td, Andrews broke out. 9 catches, the problem wad, that was almost as many passes that were thrown and Huntely completed one to the Steelers. It is the same old tune, this passing offense is just atrocious, it doesn't matter who is behind center and NO, it is NOT the receivers. The Biscuit has to see other teams with burger flippers for quarterbacks putting up 200+ yard, multiple touchdown passing games. He has to, he claims to be a football fan. The Steelers, early on used 6 defensive lineman, six! I haven't seen a split six defense since high-school, in the 1980's. That is easy pass & catch when you use play action, I know, we beat that defense every time and our qb was terrible. Nothing is going to change with this passing offense, we have one qb who can't throw deep because he doesn't have the arm, another who has the arm but is not accurate down field. Even if they could, the plays designed, route combinations used do not make it easy to get someone open deep. Then there is the line, the pass blocking, there is no pocket to hold up for 3 seconds. I've given up on this season, I expect this offense to continue to implode.
  9. True, just look right in our backyard, how many Bama busts has Ozzie drafted just because they were from Bama? A lot
  10. Wow, really bad football, up by 9, just over 2 mins left, 4th and 5, they roll Jones out, he gets sacked for a loss of 9, instead of trying the field goal. I'm surprised Billy boy did that... I think a lot has gone into the decline of football in the NFL the past few years, a lot of it is practice restrictions, some is as you say the old boy network and bad coaching. Some on bad scouting, bad drafting. I think we might be on the verge of the NFL becoming like college ball, rather than the two being separate. College is so much better right now than pro, but the rules in the NFL are another cause of the terrible game play. They keep changing them, and not for the good
  11. I watch a ton of college ball, more so than NFL now. You can see many great college quarterbacks who make incredible throws, but when they get into the NFL, the speed of the defense, the way receivers run their routes, the offensive lines that are not as good, the speed of the rushers, even the size of the ball. What ever it is, they just cannot make those types of throes any longer. Mac Jones is a good, recent example. Terrible line, average wide outs who struggle to get open, his accuracy has dropped 10 fold. We could go down the list of qbs like him who are now struggling at this level. Some do take 5+ years to come around, a few turn out. Yes some of it is the system, some coaching. Geno Smith is another good example, only now is he starting to get it. Maybe it is a one year wonder, maybe more. But this year, back to the thread topic, we have more teams with below 500 records, still eligible for the playoffs. We might have 3 teams below 500 make the playoffs, that is bad football.
  12. Yes, that pass was a thing of beauty, but I just wonder about his stature, he is a very cerebral qb. The issue I have is the Ravens philosophy on the offensive line. Pay a left tackle, plug and play everywhere else. It leads to a line that does not pass block like a Brees, Brady etc need, Ala Flacco. With this philosophy, they need a qb who can run, who has good foot speed, as well as smarts. If your going to give up on Lamar, or he on them, you have to have an Aaron Roger's type, in his youth. As VA said, Duggan is that type, I am not convinced he will be a great NFL qb, his accuracy can be erratic, that is why he was benched to start the season. All power to him for fighting through it and doing what he is now, but...
  13. I know what history says about Ohio State qbs, but Cj Stroud might finally be the one. He moves well in the pocket, has great feel for the rush. Makes all of the throws with a great, accurate arm. Quick feet, reads defenses, runs well, very Mobil but not blazing. True, he has some very good weapons, but he also had a poor offensive line. Last night proved he might be the one against a great defense.
  14. Yes, but he doesn't have great foot speed, nor arm strength, he will get eaten up in the NFL
  15. Peters is ruled out and as expected so too is Lamar. Best to rest those who are on the edge of injury, the team is in the playoffs one way or the other though winning one of these last two games is best. And, with a win Sunday night, the Ravens can hand Tomlin his first losing season, or as the talking heads like to put it; his first non winning season
  16. So after they trade Lamar for 2 1sts, a 3rd this year, a 4th next, do they sign say Carr, or Mayfield? Are either better than Huntley while they try to bring a rookie along?
  17. That would suck, 3 times in one season, best of 3 I guess it would be. I doubt the Ravens best the Bengals in two weeks, so yep, must win this game. Get all of the plays Roman has not run yet, and use them to beat the Stillers. Let Huntley get used to them so that he is fully versed in them to use them again the Bengals, and whom ever he faces in round one...
  18. While he has done a great job against some poor teams, you have to tip your hat. He has gotten a lot out of players, the coverages, the games at the line of scrimmage with stunts & twists, the types of blitzes, well done. We can see the improvement from him over the course of this season as he learns the tendencies of other offenses, we'll done. But how will he do against the playoff teams, better offenses, we shall see
  19. Charger and Jags are the same team, the difference, no matter the coach, the players, the Chargers always find a way to lose games in the most unusual ways. I think this defense is looking for payback against the Jags, a game the Ravens should have won.
  20. Yeah the Tua situation is strange. No clear sign that he had one, a day later he says he had symptoms. That is not unusual, delayed symptoms with concussions is common. But 3 in one season, also common as most overlook their symptoms, or do not want to miss games, is still concerning. Not enough is known if once you start getting them, you are then more susceptible. As for his play, we saw the Packers give a blue print, if you will on how to stop him. A morphing zone taking away his first read. Ive heard the rumor about Lamar and cold weather, his stats in cold games would seem to back that rumor up. Not sure the Miami connection is right though,
  21. Just came across this, the photo, not the article, not sure how to post photos on here from my phone. But remember this hit Lamar took? Thankfully he was not hurt, but this is the types of hits run first qbs take. It is the type of hit I think he, Lamar, wants to avoid, why he is so hesitant to scramble from the pocket this year, as well as him trying to be a pocket passer. TribLIVE: First Call: Steelers' playoff chances shrink after MNF result; Ravens unclear on Lamar Jackson's health. https://triblive.com/sports/first-call-steelers-playoff-chances-shrink-after-mnf-result-ravens-unclear-on-lamar-jacksons-health/
  22. Max, Flacco's deal, contrary to popular opinion, did not hurt the Ravens cap, that was spewed by some in the local media, carried to the hit & click cloud media and is completely bogus my hairy friend. The team chose not to build around Joe, they could have easily afforded some real talent on the offensive line to protect him, he is/was a pocket passer. But as we all know, aside from the left tackle position, it has always been the Ravens mantra that any other position on the line should be cheap and easy to replace. As usual, they were wrong, got Joe hurt, who still finished out the play with a deep pass, talk about gutsy, shredded knee still stand tall and pass. Tyreke Hill is going to cost the Phins $31 million against the cap next year, ouch. Not sure where I was going with that, such is my mind these days.. In any event, the league has to do something, their way of adjusting the cap every year is worse than how the Feds do the math for increasing Social Security... double ouch. Quarterback contracts thanks to the aforementioned, wide outs, left tackles, rush ends, all going way up. What is worse, the players see baseball and basketball get these huge guaranteed contracts, fully mind you, and football elites, if you will, want that too..
  23. So, here we are at the end of the season, my, my, my. Wilson, you know, the one who started it all with gobs of guaranteed money, 5 years, $245 mil, $165 guaranteed, & all of those drat picks. What has he done? Sucked, so bad that rumors are Denver is looking to cut him, but they can't, for at least one more year. So they fired a first year head coach... We can go back to Stafford, who also cashed in, cost a lot of picks as well. At least he brought the Rams a trophy before sucking this year, injured, tons of injuries where they had no replacements because they had no draft picks. Then of course is Watson, the root cause of every NFL team rethinking having a "franchise", "elite" quarterback, that maybe drafting, surrounding him with talent, run game, defense, in the five years of "cheap labor" maybe you can catch lightning in a bottle. Watson, hardly fair to judge his crappy, pedestrian play, since he hasn't played in almost two years. But he too cost a ton of draft picks, set the mark for guaranteed contracts, a poison pill if you will. Yet he clearly has not lived up to it. So the Rams, Broncos, Browns, are going to be hit hard next season by the contract escalations for their quarterbacks, meaning they will have a difficult time fielding star players at runningback, defensive end, wide receiver, corner, you know, the other staples. Miami paid a boat load to their star wide reciver, lightening, one of the best. But they are still on the budget plan at qb with Tua, who is hurt, again. They also have another star wide out on budget contract, Waddle, who will want to be paid hmmm Herbert finally made it to the playoffs, but on a budget contract. It should be interesting to see what he asks for this off season as he will be in the last year of his deal. Think Lamar is loved here, it pales to the way they live Justin out there.. He has been far better at passing than Lamar. Jacksonville is also likely to make the playoffs with a budget qb, though they won't have to pony up with him for a few more years. Interesting stuff, Lamar's injury, again, his erratic play this year, and desires for a contract, plus the lack of quality play from the players who "set a new level" for qb contracts could have other teams unwilling to give up true draft capital for Lamar, knowing he will want a cap strap contract and is prone to injury, erattic at passing.....
  24. Max, if you go Saturday night, it will be a cold, lonely place.
  25. No thanks, better talent on Denver and they still could not move the ball. Wilson may or may not be done, but the play design/calling certainly did not help
