Time will of course, tell if this was a good draft or not. Time has told the story of the past few drafts as C's at best. They didn't reach? Jernigan was a reach in the 2nd, no reach in the first I suppose, though the ranking and position of need met one pick after the Ravens. Based on what I know of these players from seeing most of them actually play in numerous games, I think we are in for a long 2 or 3 years; I hope I am wrong. We truly can't judge a player now on another team as each team developes players differntly and even uses them in different ways, so there is now no true way of knowing if they would have worked out better here. There is no or little doubt that the Ravens could have both filled the needs and drafted best player, but we will never know their rankings, we can only go off our feelings and the rankings of Mel & the like. Mosley, high praise from many in the proffesion, possible defensive player of the year, ok, sure, we shall see.

ummmm they must have really wanted him to trade for him, why not make the trade for stevie johnson for the same pick? quite odd, this kid will be lucky to make it through camp.

My daughter goes to LIberty, Coastal's arch rival. a bit of a mudder, not really a short yardage back but he is patient to wait for holes to open. Doesn't do well in the passing game, not a great blocker.... we shall see, I do like this pick.

Potential......................... has the body type they are looking for, but is not very strong and for me, the broken foot really worries me. Those things, especially on big guys, almost never heals right and always has lasting affects.....

Maybe a blocker, again, he did not dominate lesser opponents so we shall see how he does now. They already have a blocking tight end, tall, good hands on the team, he was on the ps last year. Amaro is an athletic tight end, true, not a true blocker, but then, neither is Pitta, nor any of the receivers. He can get down the seem, gets off press coverage well too boot....

Yeah, Desire, not saying it will happen, but I would not be surprised if he beats out their number one pick for the starting job............... pickings are getting slim, real fast............... Browns have had a very good draft.

Amaro was there when they took Jernigan, I would love to know how closely they rated the players. Amaro is heads & tails better, right now, than Gilmore. You can only coach so much, you can't coach speed, you can't coach athleticism, and usually, if aplayer struggles with making catched in traffic, contested catches, they will always; usually.

True, but if he was the "highest rated player" on their board, there is an issue I see. He does have large hands and catches well, when wide open. But struggles to adjust to the ball in traffic and drops a lot of passes if they are contested. So, we traded one tight end who drops a lot, for another, but hey, he is an inch or two taller....

Who wrote that max? I saw a ton of mountain west, and what they claim about Gilmore is not exactly true. Yes, big hands, but doesn't jump well- not exactly athletic, struggles with contested balls, doesn't adjust well to the ball in the air, has a long list of injury issues including a knee. He was a decent blocker, at least showed to be, but then it was the mountain west, not exactly top talent he had to block. In other words, he did well, but did not dominate as one would expect. Oh and my favorite, when in press coverage, he struggles to get into or even stay on his route.... Yippie, just what the team needed...

Brooks, look deeper at his profile on ESPN, it pretty much backs up what I said. Yes he is fast, yes, even quick, and likes to hit. However, he is not a good tackler, the discipline I spoke of was on the field, scheme, sorry, I should have been more specific. He reads the qb's eyes, to get his jumps. In the NFL, that will get you beat. He does understand he needs to recognize route combinations, but he still relies on reading the quarterback-peeking into the back field. This is not good in the NFL as a way of playing safety consistantly. He is small, thin, only finnished one full season at FSU, and this gem from your link- Speed is good unless you can't use it, three cone drill is far more important than 40 time. Certain injuries are ok, they do not haunt a player. Other injuries though, hamstrings, cramping, knees, concussions, look out..... His lack of quickness and peaking into the back field all point to a lack of scheme discipline. That may change, yes, I could be wrong. However, with as much as I watch games, players and knowing what to look for, th(is was a career I once wanted to be in), I'll take my words and mark them down, eat them if I am wrong, but all signs point to him not being the starting safety this team needs going forward. It has nothing to do with not taking the player I wanted, nor just about this year.. Go back to the last few drafts, you see most, a majority of the players taken, are not living up to their potential. Everyone excuses their play for being young, they "just need a little more time"...... The jury is still out on elam, by the way, dispite what the Ravens say publically.

a defense that was ranked 12th over all, an offense ranked 18th over all. while it is true, the defense had trouble getting off the field, and no team has ever been to, nor won a super bowl with a defense and offense ranked top 10, two years straight of ignoring the obvious, playing guessing games with the offensive line is going to hurt this team for years to come. They have done nothing to improve the offense so far, nothing. They have a 37 year old receiver who may or may not hold up for a full season and young receivers who do not run good routes and struggle with press coverage. This draft WAS full of top receivers who excell in both of those categories and who thrive going after contested passes. 12 were taken, none by the Ravens. No right tackle unless they get real lucky with one in the 4th and later rounds. But oh, sure be happy about two players from FSU with discipline issues and a tight end not good at anything....../ ok back to normal mode! Go Ozzie!

except Jernigan is a one technique player, not likely to be able to adapt to a 3 and the Ravens had a couple of players stashed on ir, ps, who had very good pre seasons /camps last year. Short, short arms, no quick first step, not a hard worker, already in the drug program now officially since he has been drafted; not good.

That is why I said historicly, Upshaw has reached his limit, time will tell if Smith will improve any further and Rice appears to be at the end of his career. So four players in 18 drafts, but hey. at least he didn't trade up for Deron burnt toastJenkins, oh wait, he did..............

Doom & gloom, maybe, maybe not. Historicly, Ozzie has missed badly in the 2nd round, so I would say the doom is warranted. Moses was rated higher on most boards and he is a player for a position of need.. Now granted, much of my disappointment is in seeing Mathews go to the Iggles.....

Even were that the case, this guy is not a starter, not even a decent back up and they already have plenthy of depth, young depth at that, on the defensive line.

Ill repeat here what I said in the other thread; this pick makes no sense, none, zero, zip. If the Ravens had him rated this high, they must be high, he is a loafer, doesn't move people back, and loves the mary jane too much. Six defenes picks now in the first six rounds, going back to last year, and the offense is still waivering mainly because of a piss poor line and receivers who struggle with press coverage..... Watch, mark my words, another 2nd round bust for Ozzie.....

This pick makes no sense, none. they did not need him, there is no way he was rated this high, that is now six picks on defense going back to last year's first four picks. When they know they need offensive line help, receiver, running back, tight end and yes safety, Ozzie, put the pipe down.

I think you all know how I feel about Mathews, from Vandi. another guy to watch, a corner from a tiny school (he transferred there to be closer to his family) Pierre Dessir - Lindenwood - 6'1" - 198 lbs holds records for picks, showing he not only recognizes routes very, very well, but has great hands. He is a solid tackler and with his size and decent speed, 4.5 I think, he would make a great safety, he has the instincts..... Would love the Ravens to land him and move him over.... doubt it though.

Oh I trust Phil too, but people are wrong sometimes..... I've watched a ton of Bama and college football. I've seen him get lost in the wash, out of position, get blown back by runningbacks. I know, this happens to all players and honestly, I do think he will be a good player. However, I think there was better value at 17, and he will not be the end all to be all some are thinking. Maybe he is the end of the Bama "curse" so to speak. Every Bama player Oz drafts has been a bust, hopefully he does a good job in the 2nd, hisorically his worst round, this time around.

I don't know how the players will turn out. I do know four things for certain. 1) Ray Lewis may be a good game analyst, but he stinks as a draft analyst. 2) Gruden may have been a good coach, and is good at joking around, but he sucks as a draft analyst. 3) Chris Berman did a lot over the years for sports coverage, but his time has come, he really is horrible as a draft analyst. 4) NFL network should be ashamed, as bad as ESPN's coverage was, theirs was far, far worse.

Durability and and intelligence. He was caught out of position many times last season, and through out his career there. Time will tell, what they do going forward with this draft will determine if this was a good pick. Frankly, I am neither fond of this pick nor truly disappointed.

Yes & no. There are some players who are likely to be there at 17, that team like Phili, (Bekham) covet badly. The niners want a receiver as well, he has been mentioned with them too, but no way he lasts until their pick. A few other players will come into, well, play as well at 17. It all hinges on what happens with the quarterbacks, when they go will determine if those coveted players by teams in the mid to late 20's will move up. I know the Ravens want to move out, the talent level is pretty even from 15-30 or so. Martin, for example, could be a good player, but there are hints there that could be he turns out like an Oher, in other words, a lineman in the 2nd would or 3rd would be just as good, if not better, than taking Martin at 17. Beks is a very good receiver, but one can find one just as good, if not better, later as well, like my Vandi guy- Mathews, who Mel has going to the 9ers at their pick. It should be fun to watch.
