Did you read the thread? He explains it. The pics and thread are in the trash talk forum.

Given that we're playing with a semi pro roster, I don't care.
-
You're convinced they will get it right next time? By what? Here's two thoughts... the only thing teaching them to act differently is the fact that we are talking about this and the fact that it is costing them money. If we didn't talk or didn't care, they wouldn't either. The sooner we stop talking, the sooner they stop caring. What's the response going to be next time? (Or all the times still going on right now...) Are they suddenly getting it right? Doesn't feel like it. Feels like they are trying to get us off their backs. And once we stop paying attention, a few months down the line, it will be some other issue they try to brush past us - until we make a fuss. I'm tired of talking about it too. So, let them actually handle it and do something and then we can stop. Meanwhile - hate to bring up what so many ignore, but at what point do they start to really bring up Terrell Suggs' long-standing issues with domestic violence...

The biggest joke of the press release is the "q and a" format designed to look transparent. In reality, it's a brilliant way to include multiple voices without showing anyone access to them, to push back to their answers, etc. I especially love that Darren Brown apparently remembers the exact date he spoke to the police... Eight months later. Not satisfied.

Not much different in my mind from Peyton Manning's old pretend to call a time out and talk to the official while a direct snap goes to the rb. All just cheap if not officially illegal.
-
I remember Sock explaining it to me at some point - old term for a winning blow, right?
-
I saw the got but didn't think much of it as Manziel seemed to be engaging there too, not letting go. Good no call in my mind.
-
Anything more annoying than listening to a crew glorify a play that was called back and ultimately later deemed illegal in many ways? Not that I can think. How often do they do a second half follow up on a play that technically didn't happen, was not controversial, and did not involve a score? Even as the official was calling it back they were oohing and aahing over the genius of Manziel and Shanahan... It was a gimmick.

For being slandered and called a liar by his employer while his employer was engaged in a massive cover up. For becoming a fall man for an organizations failure. Heard today Rice's appeal will be based on the fact that his second suspension was based on still incomplete evidence and investigation - they say his description didn't match the video. He's likely to say it did if you watch the whole video, not just a ten second clip
-
Right. That's what I meant by mirroring Goodell's presser. But in punishing the "organization" that will include some heads beneath him rolling.
-
They will do a full blitz as in the last few times... a written statement or letter, a public statement with no questions, an interview with a controlled reporter, a presser to round it out... It's actually a fine strategy, but all the same misdirection. Layers of stories and information that build in different ways.
-
Not arguing that it will. It hardly ever does. Just saying that it probably will happen. And from my view, it needs to happen because someone really should be punished for this mess - Goodell included.

Max, just like you think these guys "saw the best" because they wanted to... You're doing the same now. Sure, we can say they were just trying to protect a guy they like and respect. I get that. But this entire situation is bigger than people in Baltimore realize it is - nationally it is huge. And this report pretty much says the Ravens did everything they could to cover their ass... While deceiving the public. As a public relations firm - which is really what they are - that's lethal. Worse yet, they are throwing others, like Rice, under the bus and denying their role in "protecting him" ... And now there being called out on it. People get fired to give the image of "cleaning house" and that's what I'm predicting.
-
But isn't that how organizations work? I think he can almost do what Goodell said in his presser - I'm going to step back a bit, accept some help, and those who were responsible for our failures are going to be removed. Doesn't even technically have to be fired. Convinced to resign, Newsome says, "our failures in this have led me to... I think for the his of the team and my conscience..."
-
Don't disagree. I could see Ozzie too, as huge add that would be. My bet though is that one takes the sword and the others make quieter exits over the next year or so, but as part of a PR cleaning house.

Just to add to my last post... This article is in the daily beast today and references articles about, "is it worth it?" Upcoming in Time. Not sure you can get much bigger than time for a platform to have this convo. The article is really about two movies, both largely glorifying football, though, which certainly leaves the rest of the convo in the minority... But still a growing voice and discussion. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/09/20/two-new-films-preach-our-nation-s-corrosive-gridiron-gospel.html

Well it's not about organizations, I thought we were taking about individuals. Goodell could easily be tossed by the owners for being a gave they no longer want representing their brand. And plenty in the Ravens' brass could go too for the same reason. I also think the Ravens could suffer longer if media pressure/advertising pressure that makes them less marketable for "big games." Ify didn't know, there are already small but growing movements about boycotting the league for many issues - from violence and concussions to legal issues. Minuscule at the moment, but the list could eventually reach its prodigal tipping point... Most times people don't realize the fatal wound until it's been around for too long to care for.

I think if you move past your own coloring of this, that it's from the " liberal morality and politically correct police, " you'd notice that there a lot of money, ticket and jersey sales on the line - and already being affected. Your response is sad. Of course it's not illegal to lie (in thus case, it can be in others), but as an organization that makes its money on its public appeal, the Ravens and Goodell are on the line for threatening their own revenue sources. Ray got cut and suspended for the publicity. These guys will go down under the same train. I don't feel bad for them about it either. Many people in many fields are subject to the same or higher standard in the public eye. They know it (and flaunt it when they lecture players on their "conduct"). Now, when their conduct failed to meet a reasonable standard, they will eventually pay a price.

Reading an article about the redskins name debate in Washington Post and one of the primary comments is coming from a "Sock Dolager" ... Just have me pause. "Definitely not or old busy though, because this guy was standing up for a ludicrous argument that because he doesn't find the weird offensive anymore, it's everyone's problem but his. "
-
Yeah, Goodell is toast. His press conference was not good for him either. Don't know if anyone is buying that it was. Double talk and double think through the whole thing.
-
Now I disagree, Max. This want a situation of wanting to hear one thing no matter what. He heard. And yes, I can believe he truly things rice isa great guy who made a mistake. But his handling of the situation days that even if this was the case, his intent in dealing with the public was to cover every track. No excuse
-
Max, I don't disagree with the sentiment that one bad moment should not necessarily define his life... But transparency is the only appropriate path. Anything short of that is unacceptable.
-
I don't disagree, force. If this all came out, 100%, in February.. I'm not sure he's cut. I think a huge punishment is more than needed and warranted, but I also cannot already mesh with the idea that any criminal can never work again. We'd be a society of anathemas.

Anyone see Bill Polian on ESPN last week? Saw it somewhere. Asked if the video could have possibly not gotten to Goodall. Midway thru his first answer, in which he's saying there was no chance they didn't get the video, the feed gets interrupted. Come back ten minutes later, ask the same question, and he goes on for three minutes about how, "things get lost" in a big system like the NFL...
