  1. It's as easy to blow a 6-1 lead as it is to build one... but a win is a win, and I'll take it.
  2. Samardzija isn't worth anywhere close to 100m. Crazy. Have to go look at what the Cubs got in return but that is a big move for the As.
  3. Even with the Jays... lucky to not have faced Darvish tonight.
  4. National violent crime rates are down dramatically - including in Baltimore, especially in the last decade. Baltimore though doesn't rank as poorly as some Florida cities on that list. And I'm just giving Crav a hard time about his Florida-fever.
  5. You mean at least 25,000? Of course lots of little towns would be there... But the list is still per population. So I'm staying out of Florida:)
  6. Florida also has 11 of the 100 most violent/dangerous cities in the US according to the FBI. No other state tops 9 cities in the top 100. I wouldn't go down there. Things are getting scarier by the day.
  7. One out of 162 doesn't sound like it's only about Jimenez - who obviously doesn't start all 162 games. The Jimenez deal is certainly looking like a bust already. But to say he's only had one decent start is also wrong. He had a solid stretch in early May of 3-4 great starts, but only came away with 2 wins (I think we may have won more). We can go get the stats if you want. Jimenez also has a history of being a much better pitcher in the second half - not that I am counting on anything close to consistency from him. Meanwhile, you're a game off on winning streaks - the O's won 5 straight this year in early May. Last year they maxed at 5 straight. The year before (playoffs) they maxed at 6 straight (didn't happen until September) - but also lost 6 straight at one point. This point they've never lost more than 4 straight. Anyway, no one's claiming perfection here - we're just back to having you tell everyone they can't enjoy a game played and pitched well. And it's silly. There's lots of hope for this year yet; also lots that could go wrong.
  8. You can't win 90 of 162 without winning 1 at a time. What's the point, Papa? Why can't you ever enjoy a small victory? By the way, you're betting on 83 wins. I'll bet on 90. What's the wager? You always lay claims but never come back to admit when you've been wrong - let's change that.
  9. They've used him a bit over the last three years or so... My only complaint is his drawl makes me skin crawl after a while.
  10. I brought up the Perry glasses last year when he came to "debate" O'Malley on meet the press and the like... Trying and failing to look smart. Trying and mostly failing at looking young. Some will fall for it - I mean some think he is smart anyway...
  11. Perry also just compared homosexuality to alcoholism... And stood behind it when given the chance to rethink his language. Pretty much said, You may be genetically inclined to drink but you don't have to... And the same applies to bring gay.
  12. We're only sellers this year if we fall out of contention...
  13. My parents got us some nice LG washing and dryers when we bought our house. Quite nice, quiet, chill features including steaming... And no issues that I feared going with a company not totally known for their home appliances.
  14. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/schmuck-blog/bal-apparently-manny-machado-wasnt-the-only-one-who-needed-to-apologize-20140609,0,2489324.story Schmuck calling out the O's for handling of the situation - especially for not making Machado available to media, in violation of MLB rules pre and post game - and then monopolizing the apology and not letting any non-MASN inquiries into the event. The O's are claiming it's fair to have "exclusive rights" over the story for MASN - but I think Schmuck is right that while you might get exclusivity on broadcasting the apology, you don't get to shut the player down from all media contact.
  15. And if it wasn't Peavy on the mind- arguably the best fielding pitcher in the game- it wouldn't have even been a play. Just wondering why he didn't bunt the other the times...
  16. Right. 100%. I was saying I'd rather us teach him to grow up than watch other teams do it by throwing at him for the rest of the season and his career.
  17. Exactly crav... It was Andrews who said don't do surgery yet.
  18. July 1 was team deadline apparently... They are trying to avoid anything till then. But definitely haven't heard anything good recently.
  19. I agree 100% with that statement. I just disagree that he has got the "to big for his britches" archetype until the last week or two.
  20. . Until the last two weeks, this hasn't been an issue... So I don't know that I agree with your diagnosis... Maybe something is up suddenly. More likely, several As players talked about teaching him a lesson - like a few teams have said about Harper and Puig - before being oddly aggressive. I think that attitude of putting young players in their place is crap. Donaldson, the As 3b who had been so good has the major league experience as Machado... But because he's 28 no one cars about his attitude?
  21. First, some think he was aiming for the pitcher but missed. But it was clearly intentional. He swung after the catcher caught the ball. Second, he may have asked for this base because of the feud they had all weekend (though the guy he was feuding with had been subbed out). I don't get people being as upset with the swings he had that knocked the catcher out of the game... Maybe he wasn't cordial enough in checking on the catcher, but didn't look intentional.
  22. First, he's going to get suspended and he should. But side from that, Buck needs to bench him if this crap continues. Matt Williams had the balls to bench Harper for not hustling to first, but Buck is going to keep quiet on the crap Manny is pulling? The major image in my mind is... Justin Bieber. He's too cool, too good, too valuable for anyone and any team. I don't agree that any other team needs to "take him down a notch" (though they will soon enough), but his manager needs to.
  23. Some sabermetrics guys have analyzed that the average player who had a shift employed against them loses 40 points in batting average vs no shift. These guys have got to start bunting on those shifts to get rid of them... Or else your giving up that much in batting average, unless you want to claim to be above the stats like everyone a decade ago.
  24. Anyone see when Cruz tried to steal home? I keep asking this question; though I know it hardly matters. Look closely. Abad (pitching) never stepped off the mound, meaning when he threw the ball home it was a pitch, not a "pick off." That means that Davis had the right to the plate and the pitch. If he had swung the bat, he would have hit Norris (the catcher) and that is ... catcher's interference. Automatic first base and runner advance. Tada! Game over. It's an old little league play - a young pitcher never remembers to step off, leaving the plate open for interference. If he does step off, you're screwed - and a professional will usually remember this. Davis bailed on the pitch to make way for the play, probably not even realizing it was a pitch... (though, he should have). I don't really blame him. I do blame him for not bunting against that shift.
  25. Your pool is too hot. Max temp 72.
