  2. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bal-five-who-struggled-five-who-impressed-20120809,0,7063433.story?tw_p=twt The Ravens’ 31-17 preseason-opening victory against the Atlanta Falcons featured a subpar performance by many of the starters, and a spirited comeback, fueled by some of the organization’s younger players. Here is a look at five players who helped their status and five who may have taken a step back. FIVE WHO IMPRESSED Omar Brown, S: Two tackles, one interception, one pass defense and two fumble recoveries. It was quite the debut for the undrafted free agent out of Marshall who has a knack for being around the football. Pernell McPhee, DE: McPhee was credited with only one tackle but he got a lot of penetration against the run, an encouraging sign for a player trying to prove that he is more than just a pass-rush specialist. Curtis Painter, QB: The former Indianapolis Colts quarterback has taken a bit of a beating from the media for his struggles in the early going of training camp, but three touchdown passes in little more than a quarter warrant a little credit. Bobby Rainey, RB: The diminutive running back out of Western Kentucky, who played high school football in Georgia, had a stirring homecoming, gaining 36 yards on 12 carries, catching three balls for 29 yards and a touchdown and returning six punts for 50 yards. Deonte Thompson, WR: Thompson struggled at University of Florida to transfer his practice success into the games, but he sure did that last night, catching three balls for 53 yards, including an impressive 22-yard touchdown grab. Honorable mention: Brendon Ayanbadejo, LB; Joe Flacco, QB, Albert McClellan, LB; Torrey Smith, WR. FIVE WHO STRUGGLED Anthony Allen, RB: While Rainey stood out and has become very much a factor in the backup running back competition, Allen had a rough night. Currently second behind Ray Rice on the depth chart, Allen rushed five times for nine yards, dropped a pass and missed a block that led to a big hit on Joe Flacco. Gino Gradkowski, C: It was a tough opening assignment for the rookie center against a team that likes to get after the quarterback. Gradkowski played the better part of three quarters and got better as the game wore on, but he missed a couple of assignments early that led to pass rushers coming in untouched on Flacco. Dorian Graham, WR: The Ravens’ roster is stocked with young wide receivers so there is very little margin of error for an undrafted free agent like Graham. He was targeted five times last night and finished with one catch for zero yards. Bobbie Williams, LG: The veteran has to gain some chemistry with the offensive line and knock off some rust. He was beat a few times and had a couple of miscommunications with Gradkowski, who nevertheless took the blame for them. Cary Williams, CB: In his first game after having hip surgery, Williams was targeted early and often by quarterback Matt Ryan, and it was a struggle for the Ravens cornerback. Working mostly against Williams, Atlanta’s second-year wide receiver Julio Jones caught six balls for 109 yards and a touchdown in little more than a quarter of work. var afterLoginLocation = ''; var defaultLocation = $('articlePromoLink').href; var wasClicked = false; if (!!window.carnival) { new memberNav( '#articlePromoLink', function() { //user is logged in if(!!afterLoginLocation && afterLoginLocation != '' && afterLoginLocation != 'default'){ $('articlePromoLink').onclick = function(){ carnival.utils.listener.fire('_carnival_'+afterLoginLocation); wasClicked = true; return false; } } }, function(){ //user is not logged in if(!!afterLoginLocation && afterLoginLocation != ''){ $('articlePromoLink').onclick = function(){ carnival.modal.popit(location.protocol+'//'+carnival.configuration('currentDomain')+'/'+signon.folder+'/site/registration/modal.signon'); wasClicked = true; carnival.user.afterLogin( function(){ if(!!afterLoginLocation && afterLoginLocation != '' && afterLoginLocation != 'default'){ carnival.utils.listener.fire('_carnival_'+afterLoginLocation); } else if(wasClicked){ window.location = defaultLocation; } } ); return false; } }//if } ).writeNav(); }//iftextSize()
  3. It is a good landing spot for him.
  4. Did Williams not have a good game? It was really hard to tell what was happening with the OL with Ch 11's camera people. I could not really tell hwere all the holes in the OL were coming from.
  5. I rthink he is a work in progress. The OL made for him having to take off Thur.
  6. He is just another talking head.
  7. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bal-ryan-mcbean-broke-his-left-ankle-20120810,0,6378285.story http://www.rotoworld...e=237687&spln=1 He has a broken ankle. He has a 3 game suspension so he has about 6 weeks to heal up.
  8. I said in my eval that the Falcons were trying to win the game instead of getting a look at their younger guys. They kept the more experienced guys in longer. That said the slow start is one of the huge issues thay had last yr. Cam can't play this game this yr. They need quick starts.
  9. Also forgot the Punt coverage. That return the Falcons had resembled many from 2012. I thought they were going to deal with that.
  10. But according to Bmore radio listeners Joe injured Ed's shoulder.
  11. I forgot one last thing to my eval. Huge kudos to being disciplined. Damn near no penalties. The one Webb gave was a good one. Had he not that might have been a TD. On the other hand the Falcons could not keep the laundry in the refs pockets.
  12. That was the same Cam feeling out a D for a while. Nothing looks to have changed from last yr. It is just the first preseason game but that should be concidered troubling.
  13. That wobbling duck he threw for Indy was all I had to see of him.
  14. He really impressed me. This kid looks like he is gonna come outa nowhere. Amazing if they can find 2 RFA WR's in 2 yrs. They have something of a glut at WR right now.
  15. Maybe more if they need to dig around with the knife. They might just IR him. They might not want to burn a roster spot for a backup.
  16. He is a 2nd yr QB. Cut the kid some slack.
  17. Looked like Taylor was dealing with some 1's. He managed with poor OL work. Painter got fat on some dismal players. We will see though. Will the Ravens go 3 deep this yr or go with only 2 again?
  18. Manny looked really good last night. Harper as of late has slid in his production. I think he was brought up to soon too.
  19. My eval of last night. The guys who deserve a lot of credit are as follows. Asa Jackson was very solid. That batted punt was monster. He also covered pretty good to. He might be a real gem. Rainey was very good. He rushes quickly for the hole. Also his punt return skills while not amazing were solid. I think he would a good punt returner. The RFA Thompson was amaing. yes he was going against the #3's but he is fast and has solid body control. He needs to make the roster as of the moment. Dickson looked smooth and athletic. If this is a look at his season it could be a monster one for him. Taylor is the real deal. In a couple of yrs I think the Ravens might be swindling a team for their picks with him. His arm was strong and he was very elusive. LaQuan looked good. he had a real nice reception. I also like his blocking when Taylor was turning the corner. Joe looked solid when he could throw. He out played Ryan. You could see they wanted to win the game by keeping their #1's in while are 2's were in and so forth throughout the game. BTW Matt nice pick. The Ravens are far deeper than Atlanta. The Falcons look to be about 1 deep and the rest look like warm bodies. Things that need work. It looks like the offense is going into feeling out the D for a quarter or so. Cam needs to end that crap. Get them going out of the gates. Ch 11's camera people suck. I was tring to see who on the OL was playing like crap. Oher when I saw him specifically looked good. Defenders were knifing in screwing up run plays. Only Rice being so good allowed him to negate that and not lose yardage. Also Flacco was getting knocked around a lot. The OL as a whole looked much like what Kyle Boller went through. Streeter needs to be hidden on the IR. He is not ready for 2012. He is a project. Allen looked podestrian last night. His holes were as large as a sewing needle's eye so there needs to be of a sample set to see if he has it or not. The D was getting pushed around some. Cody had a great batted ball. Very nice ups oon that one but later on they ran right over him for a TD. The DB's looked very solid as a whole. They gave up some but not horrid by any means.
  20. Yep. They are not in football condition and these things happen. The NFLPA will screw themselves up when people get mad about these dumb injuries. Just by the look McBean should be happy to only have a break. His foot was going the wrong direction a little.
  21. The Hawks will be penalized for this not TO.
  22. No I do call it down the line. See what I will say about the game last night.
  23. McBean's injury looked bad.
