  1. Game ball goes to the Defensive Line for absolutely shutting down the run game and putting massive pressure on Schaub. I knew that would be our strong suit going into the year, but the play this week without Canty, Williams and then Cody going down in the 1st quarter was absolutely insane. The depth we have is just unreal and the unit will only get better when they get healthy.

  2. I'm a little embarrassed I read this entire thread without a single person mentioning what is CLEARLY the biggest cause for concern for the Ravens right now... Our offensive line can't create any holes in the run game. Rice is averaging less than 3 yards a carry, while Pierce is doing barely better than that and only because he can always break the first tackle (which is coming in the backfield!) This team isn't going to get better until they can start running the ball consistently and make the play-action pass respectable. The defensive front 7 is superb and the DB's will come together. The WR's/TE's will look good once we start making people respect the run game.

  3. I've been pushing for Lloyd all summer but I just read that he is apparently reluctant to sign with anyone... Maybe taking the year off or about to retire?

Cribbs was a guy that I was intrigued with when I saw he was cut, but they are saying he hasn't been the same since he came back from his last injury.

Jenkins or Doss sound like the best options to me, but we don't have a roster spot.

  4. Agreed on everything.

Osemele really just looked slow out there, I'm inclined to say he just had an off-night. Hopefully they rip into him and he comes out angry for Week 1.

The line was very hot and cold. Either opening up huge holes or getting slashed up for a loss.

Joe looked inconsistent as usual. The Kuechly interception was downright awful, he stared down Shiancoe and Kuechly was mere steps away, I have NO IDEA how he didn't see him.

The defensive line played just like I was hoping they would, we have incredible depth and flexibility. That unit is going to be the best in the league this year and make our LB's and DB's look good.

  5. No, I didn't.....I did see Shank finally catch a ball but dropped 2 or 3 more and caused an interception.... Then Clark dropped 2 right in his hands, not good.....And if Doss isn't the next wr to get cut, I will be surprised.....Osemele looked like he was asleep at the wheel.....other than the first drive, that was a sad showing on Offense....I'm concerned about Caldy's system , it worked well with Peyton but after a while people figured out how to beat it regardless of Peyton the brainiac.....

I'm confident they will show up, I just hope it's not halfway thru the season....

    Gooooo Ravens !!!!

I saw Juice on the field split out as a WR once and I'm sure he was on the field a few other times but he didn't get too much action overall.

For me it's not as scary as Jones being the #2. I want the Ravens to use Jones exactly as they did last year. He's a flat out difference maker on special teams and can make the occasional big play on offense when defenses forget about him.

I don't think Jones is going anywhere, but you are right, he is more valuable to the team as a return man and 3rd wr.....If it were not for his big play in Denver, we would not have advanced to the AFCCG and then the SB.....Mellete or Thompson may end up with the #2.

I forsee lots of 2 TE sets, lots of Leach/The Juice, and a decent amount of Stokley. Jones should get the 2nd most snaps in the WR role though, but don't expect it to be a number that a typical #2 would see.

  7. Delone Carter was a 4th round pick under Caldwell and should essentially be a better version of Anthony Allen. A big powerful back, something we could use as our 3rd back and also the body-type that can be valuable on special teams. He has started a few games in his career and while not incredibly impressive he seems like a good pickup for a guy we were going to cut. He was 4th on Indy's Depth Chart after the pickup of Bradshaw this offseason so that's why he was available for almost nothing.

  8. These guys are as big of 'safety blankets' as we can get. Both were in the Bottom 5 (least) Drops last year at their respective positions and have the balls to go across the middle of the field. I actually don't expect huge playing time for either, but they did a nice job of getting Joe guys that he can trust on 3rd down on the cheap. Well done as usual Ozzie.

  9. Never hurts when you're just signing him for the minimum, but we do need to make sure to keep giving the kids the time in practice. Can anyone explain why we'd sign Stokely and not Brandon Lloyd? (assuming Lloyd would take the minimum in this discussion)

  10.

I'm talking about what teams will risk financially to land a franchise QB. Bradford is actually the best example. BTW...St. Louis wasn't forced to draft Bradford.

When looking at the QB deals, guaranteed money is the only thing that counts. Romo's and Ryan's deals dwarf Flacco's with guaranteed money.

Stop talking about stats. Flacco played the bulk of his first 5 years under Cam Cameron and in the AFC North. He also plays the bulk of his games outdoors. Comparing him statistically to Matt Ryan (for an example) is like comparing apples to oranges. Ryan's stats would be no better (and probably worse) than Flacco's if Ryan was in the same situation. I love fantasy football, but I swear people have lost touch with many realities of the game.

I just agreed with you that Flacco is a better player than Ryan and has a better contract. However, two bad contracts doesn't make one better, and to state 'stop talking about stats' makes you lose all credibility.

  11. Every team without a franchise QB would pay what the Ravens paid for Flacco. Dallas and Atlanta paid more for QBs who have accomplished less. Seattle, SF and DC will roll with their QBs under their rookie contracts just like the Ravens did with Joe. If they continue being successful, they will then sign those QBs to monster contracts.

St. Louis gave a guy who hadn't played a down in the the NFL a $78mil contract in their quest for a franchise QB.

St. Louis was forced to do that by the CBA and the rookie contract scale. That is the absolute worst example you could have possibly brought up.

Flacco is actually getting paid only $600,000 less than Ryan over the course of the deal. Ryan does have superior stats, but he also has had Roddy White and Green, so I side with you on that argument. Romo is getting paid a few million less per year, a significant amount, albeit with superior regular season performance to Flacco.
