  1. I don't think Jacoby wanted to leave Bmore. I seriously think that as long as the deal was near what he thought he could get that he didn't mind taking a little bit less to stay. Mccluster isn't better than Jacoby at all in my eyes but he got the same money for less yrs

McCluster isn't 'better' but he is more versatile, which you do need to pay a premium for. It's more valuable to have a guy who can be your #3 RB, #4 WR, #1 Returner, than a guy who can only be your #3 WR and #1 Returner. I'm a fan of both players and the contracts both got were fair.

  2. In completely unrelated news, Julius Peppers, Jared Allen, and Demarcus Ware are all Free Agents. Actually might have been a good year to let Suggs' go into such a loaded market for Vet pass-rushers. Could've kept him on the cheap or picked up somebody else likely.

  3. If the Ravens traded for him he would only be the base $4mil. I don't see Ozzie burning anymore picks.

And the Panthers would take a cap charge of $3, so only save 4 of 7, correct? Makes it a lot less likely he's dealt IMO.

  4. Not sure why this Steve Smith talk is happening. As you can see on Spotrac, the Panthers lose $2 Million by cutting him, that won't happen. They could trade him, but we can't afford him at $7 Million... and I know he's a fan favorite down there, they won't deal him for a 6th rounder.

I would've loved Nicks but he had an interview recently and failed to mention Flacco as somebody he wanted to play with, whilst mentioning almost every other QB of a team in need of a WR. Must think he's overrated.

Not a fan of Edelman. Like many have said, Brady created him and his injuries worry me.

There aren't many other options, so my ideal WR plan is thus:

    • Resign Jacoby.
    • Sign Kenny Britt
    • Draft somebody in the 2nd/3rd round

I feel comfortable with Jacoby and/or Marlon as the #3 WR. Britt should come on the cheap and could breakout. If not, we cut him and we aren't totally fucked. Hopefully the Rookie can step up either way.

  5. Ravens re-signing OT Eugene Monroe to a five-year, $37.5M deal, per sources

Solid deal as usual. Glad this one worked out for us!

Devil is always in the details, but if initial reports of total value, bonus and guarantee are accurate, Monroe deal looks great for Ravens

  6. Monroe is not a "franchise player" and he's not worth the money of a tag. So don't give it to him.

And if he was tagged then his agent will go for a higher contract amount than he's worth.

    He's good....solid....but not dominant.

This simply is not true. Negotiations are always based off of other contracts.

Papa is both right and wrong here. He has leverage because he's clearly not worth that Franchise Level, which he could just sign and play for... but yes at the same time, he would rather get a long-term deal. This is all conjecture and every negotiation works out differently, there is no point in arguing about something that we don't know how it would've gone down.

  7. I'm personally a little hesitant to be excited about a five year $32 million deal for a guy who was only back half the year... but I also think there's a good chance he outperforms it so overall I'll take it!

  8. i don't think Gerhardt would cost that much money and i'm anticipating rice being suspended 8 games if not the whole season. thats why i'm thinking we're going to get a RB in either free agency or the draft, my pick would be Gerhardt

I would bet all the money in the world on Rice being suspended 2 games or less. What he did was terrible from an emotional standpoint but not from a legal standpoint.

  9. Why does anyone here think we're going after a RB? While I would totally agree that Gerhardt will be a great pickup (for someone else), Pierce and Rice looked amazing just 2 years ago. Our offensive line was a huge crux last year and Rice still makes great money, there is no way we're going out and signing a veteran RB for any kind of change this year.

  10.

Salary cap projected to rise to about $133 million this year, expected to break $140 million next year and $150 million by 2016, per source

Does anyone remember the Chicken Little's on here talking about Flacco's contract? As I predicted when he signed the contract...Flacco won't even be among the top 10 highest paid QBs in two years.

That still doesn't make it a good contract. :nono:

  11. Totally sensible that we would cut them and I agree with every comment made here, but want to add one thing.

Why in the fuck was Leach signed to a 2 year deal before last season?! It looks like he was due 2.3 and we save 1.5 by cutting him, so it's only costing us 800k... but still! We had to know there was a high chance of this happening. Rare poor planning from Ozzie.

  12. I'm very surprised at the lack of trust in Suggs' in this thread. I know he's aging and had a rough 2nd half of the year but the guy still has 'it' in my opinion and while this deal doesn't look like amazing from our side, that's because it's hard to get a former DPOY on the cheap. I have faith Suggs will play this deal out without us having to cut him.

  13. Based on early reports, it appears that Suggs' new deal is for a total of 5 years and $37M. New money is $29.2M. Signing bonus of $12M.

Suggs' new 2014 Cap # is $7.8M, thereby creating $4.6M in new Cap space. His 2015 Cap number will be $6.6M ($4M base salary).

Suggs was to make $7.8M this year. Will now make $12M; $11M signing bonus + $1M salary. $4M 2015 salary guaranteed. $16M/2 yrs.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with that. Essentially $7.5 Million a year over the 4 year extension. I'd argue that is slightly over what I would've wanted to pay him, but probably what we had to do in order to lower the cap number this year. Let's hope he can return to form. Next up: Haloti.

  14. Well yea, he wasn't worth 6mil

Yeah, I don't have a problem with that. We needed one year to see what Torrey could turn into and if any of the young guys had it in them.... Unfortunately that wasn't the case, but moving Boldin was the right move with our cap situation.
