    1. I don't believe you should ever evaluate QBs based solely off their stats, but using QBR is especially ridiculous. QBR is a flat out joke.

    2. If I was GM of the Ravens, there are only two QBs I would trade Joe for right now. Those two are Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck.

Answers like this are why I sometimes think part of this board is clinically insane. Considering his contract, there are probably only about 5 teams that WOULD trade for Joe. Do you realize that?

  2. 1. They don't even consider Joe in the High Quality category so their ratings are bullshit. Joe had the greatest playoff run in the history of the NFL. Not elite? Debatable. Not High Quality = nonsense.

    2. Dumervils bad season is still greater than most players good seasons so he should at least be above average.

    3. Oher at RT is a different beast to Oher at LT like I stated. He has above average athleticism for the RT spot with an Elite mean streak.

    4. Not surprising when you consider John's past like I said. I still expect them to start on opening day as they develop through preseason.

Flacco was rated 25th in QBR last year( http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr ) Anyone doing statistical analysis doesn't throw the large sample size out the window, and moving Flacco from 25 to somewhere in the middle of the pack because of his playoff run is more than fair... unless you're a homer.

You watched probably 2 games of Dumervil and I find your attempt to argue with a flat statistical analysis of his performance absolutely hilarious.

Oher's rating is for his play last year, which was obviously mostly at LT. I agree he is better as a RT.

  3. I wish they had put their depth chart at the start of the article. I would have lol'ed and then stopped reading as it's a pile of crap especially the player type chart.

Lets see, for starters Joe is only listed as above average. We can argue to death whether Joe is elite but what's not up for argument is whether he is in the top tier of QBs so that alone should have him listed in the High Quality category.

Elvis Dumervil is listed as average! Alright then. Toke, toke, pass. Give me some.

Michael Oher is not a below average RT. Below Average LT yes, but not at RT.

Onto the article. If they have ever paid attention to the John Harbaugh era at all, they will know that he does not throw rookies into the starting lineup early. They must earn their starting role on the practice field, in scrimmages and then in preseason games. If they don't add that caveat about the roles of rookies then talking about this and that veteran starting ahead of them is wasted print.

By the way, I think that is a great philosophy by John. Rookies will have to work hard to earn their roles and veterans at least know they will only lose their job to someone playing better than them, rather than some early round draft pick just being handed the spot because of where they were drafted

PFF only lists about 5 players per position as 'Elite'. Joe is nowhere near the Top 5 and thus their ranking is more than fair.

Dumervil actually didn't have a great season last year, but in their first Depth Chart they stated that should he return to his play from 2-4 years ago, our Defensive Line would be one of the best.

Oher doesn't have good pass-blocking metrics and also is a penalty magnet.

They simply state that it is surprising the rookies aren't starting yet, as anyone on this board could say we all figured Brown and Elam would get thrown into the fire because of the lack of depth we had at their positions. Right now I can understand Brown not starting as we've added depth at MLB, but Elam should be impressing over a journeyman.

  4. I really wouldn't be opposed to playing a lot of Nickel Defenses with some odd D-Line formations. Our depth is definitely insane at DL and OLB, and if we rush 5 of those guys every play we can afford to have some extra DB help out there (not to mention MLB is somewhat of a question mark).

  5. Before this last offseason I would guarantee we would sign Suggs to an extension to push out his cap number. But after the Boldin situation I have no idea what will happen with Suggs. Yes his cap number is huge. If he has a monster year he will have some leverage against us. In that situation we would probably try and work out a long term deal. If he has a so-so year, we will be looking at a paycut situation and from there who knows.

Cleetz hit this one on the money. Even at 'only' a 4.6 Mil cap hit in dead space, we are really hurting ourselves. If Suggs' returns to 75% of himself, that player is worth about $8 Million, so I don't see how we cut him. Here's hoping he returns to form and we can sign him to a long-term extension.

  6. We also didn't need Boldin BECAUSE we had Pitta on the roster. Both guys were good at finding the soft spots and Joe could trust them to make an important 3rd down or TD grab when they were guarded. Unfortunately we now have no one on the roster with that ability unless Dickson finally steps up. I absolutely agree that bringing Leach back is now almost a necessity.

  7. I watched quite a bit of this guy in his heyday with the Vikings only a couple years ago. Heard good things about his workout, I'll be interested to see if he has anything left in the tank. I think we need to go out and get Lloyd and bring back Leach now.

  8. Roughly 5.5 million in cap space left after this deal and now there's talk Leach might be back after Miami opted not to offer him a deal. I don't see many other guys worth the money we have left except Brandon Lloyd, so let's bring back Leach.

  9. Yeah lets please not call Flacco elite because we paid him like he is. He has not proven to be near-elite yet on a consistent basis. If he plays the next year like he played in last years' playoffs the debate is settled. But as of now he maybe cracks the top 10.

  10. Agreed with #3 WR and primary returner designation. A big reason I didn't think they'd cut Leach is because with Pierce's emergence and of course Rice, I expected them to lean on the run game a lot more this year to keep Smith and Jones fresh. Gonna be interesting how they figure this out. Still expecting a veteran WR pickup sometime late in Training Camp.

  11. Darryl Smith...this guy is something else...from the Ravens website...

Looks like Huff and Smith on the back end will call the D's. Smith was a great find.

Good to hear that Brown was on the field.

The word is that Suggs is in terrific shape...

Looking like a good time to take those Super Bowl odds while you can get em.

  12. Look what the Rams bend DC over for. There are always teams that are willing to throw their futures away.

I think that was the exceedlingly rare case when there were 2 FRANCHISE QB's available. Teams won't trade that much except for a QB. Agree though that trading down/back seems to always be the best call these days.

  13. This stat was interesting:

RT @MatthewBerryTMR: Remember this if Leach leaves MT @PFF_NateJahnke Leach on field: Ray Rice 206att/869 yds/10 TD in '12. Without? Rice 135 att/582 yds/1 TD

Rice actually ran for more YPC without Leach. Granted this stat is biased as having Leach in both signaled that we were more likely to run in addition to the fact that Leach was in in short-yardage situations where there weren't many yards to be gained. In the end I'm probably a fan of this move given our limited cap space and how little we were going to use Leach.

  14. Looks like it's done based on his twitter feed. I'm pretty surprised they would do it so late. Hopefully they can use the funds to pick up some guys. Brandon Lloyd would be a nice fit and there are a ton of other vets still available and more to come I'm sure with training camp cuts.
