  1. The big thing that worries me about tonight's game is that it will be played with such intensity there will be a ton of injuries. Something like that can cripple a team for the rest of the season.

I'm an old-timer. In 1960, the Colts were 6-2 and in first place with four games to go. That eighth game was against the villainous Bears. The Colts won but were so beat up they lost the last 4 games of the season. And that was the end of the late '50s glory run.

Here's hoping I'm wrong about tonight.

  2. While going all the way to the Super Bowl would be great, I'd settle for the making the playoffs as long as we have an offense that doesn't put me to sleep anymore. The D is suspect but it is not all negative there. Carr was decent last season and the addition of Wilson, and later Webb, will help the secondary. I too have qualms about the linebackers in coverage. I saw Ray fail to cover the tight end in one of the preseason games and it wasn't pretty.

Finally, the schedule is very tough. It isn't beyond the realm of possibility that we might be 0-2 after the first two games but still have a good shot at making the playoffs if injuries can be kept to a minimum and Joe is the QB we saw in the 3rd preseason game.

  3. The only way I'd play Ed Reed is if he's 100%. If he's having any pain or issues they should PUP him and then reevaluate after 6 weeks. But if he is 100%, I'd have to play him even though Zbi and Haruki have played quite well.

  4. Cundiff's leg strength is impressive and he's pretty accurate. Not as accurate as Stover but he has more range. I haven't really seen enough of Graham to really decide. Based on their records in camp, I give Billy the edge.

  5. I'm with you on that cleetz.

I say use Dickson and Pitta more...with Heap.

That gives Joe a lot of big targets...there will be mismatches on LB's and nickle backs all over the place....and it won't hurt the running game at all.

I am absolutely in agreement with you, Max. Use Dickson and Pitta with Clayton and we'll be alright. Then we can look forward to having Donte back for a late season run.

  6. Bulger looks like he's shellshocked from so many poundings at St. Louis. He had that deer in the headlights look. I'll give him the preseason to try and get his confidence back. For that he's going to need more playing time--time that should come at Troy's expense.

  7. I have to agree with Thunder. Clayton is an acceptable 3rd or 4th receiver---I tend to think more as a number 4. I'd rather see Stallworth in there as number 3-he's not afraid to go over the middle and he has that great speed that one receiver has to have. But, Clayton would be adequate.

  8. The old fight song had a lot of pzazzz and was easy to sing. I'd like to see the old tune with the new words. The biggest plus is its a tie to our old Baltimore football roots which shouldn't be forgotten just because the Colts are in Indianapolis now.

  9. I don't like the idea of playing a game after just 3 days of rest on any day especially when you're trying to keep players healthy. I'd rather somebody else get this dubious honor.

At one time, the Lions always played the Packers on T-day but eventually Lomabardi squelched it because of all the hassles.

Now you know I'm REALLY old!

  10. I agree! Now is the time to make our move for Marshall! Getting someone of his talent for the 25th pick in the draft is a no-brainer. With his talent and production he is worth a top 5 pick at this point! Did I mention he is only 25? We need to sign him to a 6 or 7 year deal and make this happen.

Furthermore, as an unrestricted FA...Kevin Walter should also be considered! He would be a beast as a #2 next to Marshall or a slot WR if we also retained Mason. Not to mention he is only 28 years old! So sick...think about it:

    1. Marshall

    2. Mason/Walter

    3. Walter/Stallworth

    4. Stallworth/Clayton

    5. Clayton/Rookie

    6. Rookie

I mean you can almost book the AFC championship game off that alone!

Now, what about McGahee and a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Cromartie? If we pulled that off with the above scenarios...we have one hell of a ball club overnight! Remember, Cromartie is only 25 years old too!

I know we don't like trading away draft picks and the Ravens are great at drafting, but to get elite players and positions of need who are still well in their prime if not there yet for a couple draft picks is a no brain decision. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think restricted FA acquisitions and trades have no restrictions as a "top 8" team as opposed to the UFA rules...right?

Agree with all the above. We should sign Walter regardless of what happens with the other WR pickup but I'm hoping for Marshall/ Walter/Stallworth/Clayton! And if we can swing a #2 for Cromartie I'd give that up too.

  11. As we head into the off season I thought I'd wrap up my thoughts on the 2009 Ravens season while they are still fresh and I'd like to hear yours as well...with an A, B, C, D, and F rating.

I can't give them a 'C' because that's average and teams don't make the playoffs every year. An 'A' feels too high comming off of the 2008 season which was an over achieving 'A' in my book. So it looks like a 'B-' because the expectation was to make the playoffs and they did. They finished in the final 8 but the up and down, lack of consistency gives them the '-' in my book. The strong start and then the fumbling around middle part of the season taints the 'B'...getting swept by the Bengals does too. The coaching staff has to do better winning in the division.

Here's some of the highlights from the Ravens website...

There was the great playoff win over the Patriots...the big win over the Chargers, beating the Steelers in OT.

There were the heart breaking losses to the Colts, Vikings and the regular season Pats game...and the refusal to sign Stover is a lowlight in my book.

The Michael Oher story. Two Thumbs Up.

and... Ray Lewis continues to beat Father Time...

Let's add one future prediction because Joe is growing as a franchise QB...

One day it will be the other way around Joe.

I would agree, Max. A B- for the year. By the way, I disagree with Preston and would give Flacco a B- for the season as well. He started out hot but something with the offense floundered in mid-season and then he got hurt. I was out of the country during the losses to the Bengals and Pats so I don't really know what happened there and thats when things started to go south.

  12. After a couple of days pondering..I feel worse.

I feel the way I felt when Billick brought in Grbackwards after Dilf had taken us to the promised land..How ironic is it that Rod Woodson, said that the Ravens would have repeated if the personnel would have stayed intact..

I dont like this at all, hes shell shocked from 2 years being in the dump south of us..Poor Joe Flacco.

Crav, its too early to feel bad about this. Everything goes south in DC since Snyder took over---even Gibbs didn't have success. Zorn has a reputation of being a good QB coach and he was a wide-open QB when he played. I kind of like the pick.

  13. No disrespect taken. :) I don't believe they aren't mutually exclusive, but there are degrees and in the past, the Ravens (the most vocal of them) showed an unbearable amount of undesirable (at least for me) attitude.

    Dee

I couldn't agree with you more. While I am and always will be a Ravens fan, there should be more humility in all of sports and the leagues, especially the NFL, ought to eliminate the strutting, prancing and dancing.

Then again, I'm really old school.
