  1. I didn't expect the orioles to be doing this bad. I was leaving town on Friday (Opening Day) and Tejada had just tied the game up...the crowd was excited and I thought the O's were going to get their 2nd win.

I come back to find out they were swept.

It seems their division is loaded and that it's going to be a slow and frustrating start for this season until they can find an opponent that they can compete with.

  2. I forgot about Saunders...the Ravens have some serious proven brains on offense Most of the pieces are in place for this offense to take off.

During his 27 years of coaching, Al Saunders has engineered some of the greatest offenses in the game's history.

They're offenses worthy of nicknames, like "Air Coryell" and "The Greatest Show on Turf."

Now, the Ravens are looking to sap every last piece of knowledge out of Saunders and hoping to get a renowned offense in the process.

Saunders has been recently promoted to Senior Offensive Consultant for the 2010 season. He will specifically assist Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron in establishing game plan strategies and work on the field with the Ravens' tight ends and wide receivers.

"We are very fortunate to have him involved here," Cameron said. "He has as much experience in our system as anybody in the league. By the end of the year, we will have stolen every great idea he ever had (smiling)."

In a nutshell, the Coryell offense is a combination of deep and mid-range passing and power running. Its main elements are a strong-armed quarterback, at least two deep receiving threats and a grinding inside run game.

Let's hope 2010 is the season this moves from theory to reality.

  3. BallT...when this started I thought "WTF has BallT got me into? Hey...that kid can sing!

Then my sick mind saw me singing that song to all the gang who post here... :D... because...because I will always...sniff...tear....youknowwhatImean.

  4. matheson.jpg"Allow me to get my post count up and say Gaither is a mauler. In a perfect world, they would find a way to have Gaither and Oher anchor the ends of that line for the next ten years and it would be dominant.

Now...we know Gaither wants (and deserves) LT money. Therein lies the problem. This is why some say "the Ravensa should get what they can now" because next year they might get nothing. That makes sense.

I see no way Gaither willingly moves to RT. It would cost him millions. Plus he can play LT on many teams. The market is there.

I say let Ozzie solve this riddle...I'm not smart enough.

I don't want to lose him. I don't want to see the Ravens get nothing. How they can manage the CAP and keep both is beyond me. You have to pay the Piper and some other part of the team would get weaker and suffer.

    It's a riddle.

  5. I was shocked they traded him to a division rival. I don't remember something like this happening before, but they got great value.

I guess for the Eagles it was dump salary and bonuses, dump McNabb while they can get something for him and send a message to Donavan that playing air guitar comming out of the tunnel is not intimidating to NFL players.

For the Indigenous Persons???? Looks like "Win Now." plus "We have to get rid of our draft picks." plus "Let's be ignorant and keep Campbell in the dark."

    43772812.jpg

The Eagles won't win with Kolb.

The best thing that could happen to McNabb is that he becomes one pissed off, agressive. revenge filled guy. I never saw that fire in him.

  6. With Cousins I kept thinking "..a little better than Kip Vickers".

I think the O line as it stands now is the best chance for the Ravens to have a dominant O line. I like having Gaither and Oher anchoring the ends. I like the overall youth. They can't keep changing it every year.

On the other hand it has a weakness or they wouldn't have to keep TE's and RB's in to pass protect on so many plays. Sometimes that is necessary because of the blitzing, but at some point, the line has to be able to handle the bulk of the protection schemes...5 on 5...so Cam can flood the field with receivers.

They definately can road grade...that's not a weakness.

  7. Hey....it would be OK if Cousins can lock down the right side, Oher moves to left and the Ravens get a 1st or early 2nd round pick for Gaither....but I'm not sold on Cousins...

Cousins helped the Ravens record a franchise-record 548 total yards against the Detroit Lions, then protected Joe Flacco when the Ravens quarterback threw for four touchdowns against the Bears.

The blemish on Cousins' 2009 record was a costly unsportsmanlike penalty in Pittsburgh and then surrendering back-to-back sacks by Pro Bowl linebacker Lamaar Woodley as the Ravens made a final-minute push. But Woodley has done that to a lot of tackles, let alone players starting their third career game.

"I thought last year he played extremely well against Chicago and Detroit," Cameron said. "He was dominant. He got his opportunity and made the most of it."

Cameron said he was Cousins' biggest critic during the 2008 season. Cousins had a great deal of potential with his 6-foot-4, 314-pound frame, but he was in a spread offense in college and was a bit overwhelmed in the NFL at first.

Now Cameron says Cousins is one of Baltimore's most improved offensive players over the past two seasons.

    http://www.baltimoreravens.com/News/Articles/2010/04/Cousins_a_Starter_in_Waiting.aspx

I say it would be "OK" but not "great" because I think Gaither can become a dominant player and that's nothing to give up on so lightly.

"Maybe the best move, ultimately, would be to turn a fifth-round supplemental pick into a high second-round pick, have him as a two-year starter at basically the veteran minimum [salary] and move on in the organization and address other needs,” La Canfora said.

On the other hand, Gaither has proven to be a top-end left tackle in the NFL when healthy, something he struggled with last season when he sat out five games with neck and foot injuries.

The 6-foot-9, 340-pound behemoth has size and athleticism that’s tough to find. According to ESPN contributor K.C. Joyner, Gaither has allowed just seven sacks in 27 career starts, demonstrating his elite pass-protection skills.

He’s not bad against the run either. Joyner says Gaither was at the point of attack on 300 running plays over the past two years and won his block 255 times (80 percent). He won the battle 89 percent of the time in 2009. About one in 10 offensive linemen crack the 90 percent mark.

  8. Nice find crav!

I just watched the 2000 highlights...love that phrase "If we win, we're in"...the atmosphere at that game was something special.

Corney Dillon set a 278 yard single game rushing record that year, but against the Ravens D he had 12 carries for 9 yards in one game and 16 carries for 23 yards in the second game. We forget how dominant that D was. The Raiders had the #1 rushing attack in the NFL, but in the AFC Championship game they only made 24 yards on 17 carries for a 1.7 ypc.

I think I'm going to put out $49 today for the NFL Game rewind to carry me through until training camp...

  9. I want him...McLain and Arenas.

Terrence Cody, the 6-foot-5, 349-pound defensive tackle from the University of Alabama, visited with the Ravens today.

Cody, who has lost about 30 pounds since the college season ended, became a YouTube sensation by doing a backflip at 380 pounds. He is rated by most experts as a second-round pick.

The Ravens are looking for defensive line depth as Trevor Pryce (34 years old ) and Kelly Gregg (33) enter the twilights of their careers.

At the Senior Bowl, Cody appeared sluggish and out of shape, weighing 380 pounds. But he dropped 30 pounds before Alabama's Pro Day and has seen his stock rise.

    Here's Cody's dance...

  10. What a moron!

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers was arrested Thursday at Hopkins International Airport for having a loaded gun in his carry-on luggage.

Rogers, who had been at the team's suburban training facility in recent days taking part in a voluntary offseason program, was stopped at a security checkpoint on Concourse C when officials spotted a loaded .45-caliber hand gun in his bag, police said in a statement.

  11. Opening on national television gives a little more incentive during training camp to be ready for a large audience," coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. "I know that playing the Redskins in the preseason is something our fans enjoy, and gives a backyard rivalry that adds some spice to that game. The Giants, like us, are a tough, physical team similar to those we play in our division, which makes that game a good tune-up. Playing indoors at St. Louis prepares us for that type of environment. ... Overall, it’s a good balanced schedule that will help us prepare for the regular season.”

It is anticipated that the NFL will announce the regular-season schedule by the middle of April.

    Aug. 12 Carolina Panthers (ESPN)

Aug. 20 or 21 @ Potomac Drainage Basin Indigenous Persons

Aug. 27 or 28 New York Giants

Sept. 2 @ St. Louis Rams

    Can't wait...

  12. I love his attitude...

“I’ve had the opportunity to play with a guy like Kurt Warner, and the chemistry we had between each other was unbelievable,” Boldin said, referring to his former signal-caller with the Arizona Cardinals. “We could not say a word to each other and still be on the same page. That’s what I want with Joe. The more time we spend together, the better that will get.”

“Just watching the guy, he can make every throw on the football field,” said Boldin. “I’m just coming in to help him mature as a quarterback, and hopefully we can take it to the next level.”

    http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/?p=4700

That is exactly what the Ravens need to take the offense to the next level...they get to the line of scrimage, look at the D and intuitively know what each is going to do.

This could be a very special year for the Ravens offense. They have a great...maybe tops in the NFL...RB combo in Rice, McLain and McGahee. The line should be lights out this year. If this passing game takes off in Flacco's third year...look out.

The whole unit looks like they were put together to mature or bare fruit this year.

....So far it looks like attendance is great at the Castle.

  13. I'll go with what Ray says...he should be the best to recognize the qualities needed for leadership.

In Rice's rookie year he sold me. During camp McGahee was hurt, McLain out of shape...so Rice was getting all the carries...and the beatings but he just jumped right back up.

Michael Oher has that desire, drive and determination. He can elevate that line.

    48643349.jpg

Have to agree on Webb...that secondary got better overnight when he started. He was showing them up...showing them how to play fast and physical.

Suggs could emerge as a leader this year.

He's off to a good start by being here for the OTA's.

"I'm too young to be a leader...but wait till you can see the moves I got!"

  14. There are times when no change is good.

They screwed up the Pro bowl and now this.

I hate being forced to watch it in prime time.

    Hate it.

The NFL is always trying to get money out of us and this time I really feel their hands in my pockets without asking.

It's not for our convenience. It's not fan friendly at all.

It's "Screw you we want more money".

  15. It's still unfair.

If you win the coin toss then you don't want the ball. The plan is to hold them to a field goal or less...if they have a 4th and 8 from the 25 they will probably kick the FG.

Now you have the ball...and 4 downs to make 10 yards when the other team only had 3.

  16. I like the move.

He's an upgrade over Edwards.... but not over Bannon. I think he'll flourish here.

    Much needed depth.

Ozzie can still draft a DE in the 1st round...or a WR for that matter...whatever...he can go BPA.

They still need OT depth....Cousins is too risky and Yanda needs to stay inside.

  17. Goodell plans to meet with Big Ben

ORLANDO, Fla. -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he plans to talk to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger about his most recent sexual assault charge.

"The most important thing is we take the issue very seriously," Goodell said at his first press conference at the NFL owners meetings today. "We are concerned that Ben continues to put himself in this position. I have spoken to the Steelers and Art Rooney directly about it. At the appropriate time, I will be meeting with Ben."

The NFL and the Steelers have yet to take any action against Roethlisberger.
