"Are they still mulling Marshall?"
-
varav...I was at the '66 World Series for both games....just a kid but I'll never forget it.
I hope Spen is right because they have shown nothing this spring.
-
Before I start let me admit that I'm a casual fan and I don't know very much about the Orioles except that they lose. I once upon a time followed them passionately for 30 years.
It's midway through spring training and the Orioles...well...they are not looking too good.
The outlook for the upcomming season looks bleak to me.
They can't win.
.... and the pitchers are getting shelled....and they are not hitting too much lately.
So what are they doing right?
Now injuries are destroying what little hope I had had of this year being better...at least this for casual fan. I want to sniff the day when they turn the corner towards being 1 game over .500.
Roberts back is a serious concern because no way he can contribute when the season starts. If you need an epidural to make it onto the field then you are cooked.
Uhara won't contribute this year because he breaks down too often,... Guthrie can't pitch...I'm counting him out and I know it's way early.
The season hasn't started and it's a long one of 180 (182 games?...been away from baseball too long... ) but this is a snakebit franchise.
I can't and won't follow this team until they show me something other than excuses or reasons why they don't know how to put a team on the field that finds ways to win games. They do not know how to do that.
They are clueless at this point in time because everything they have done might...I say might...get them 5 more wins than last year.
That is not progress.
Looking good while losing games is not progress and not is not exciting.
I'm not going to a game and pay good money to watch some guy, who is making a million dollars or more a year, try to figure out how to throw a strike....on my dime.
Or some guy trying to learn how to run the base paths...it makes me feel like a sucker to financially support that.
Only one thing can get me to pay to go to an Oriole game....GUILT.
We lost one franchise due to poor attendance (and other serious factors)...I don't want to see the Orioles go elsewhere....because I know how great it once was to have a real basball team, that played with an attitude, knew how to win, insisted on excellence and delivered that.
But guilt might have me going to a game or two so some future generation of Baltimore fans might get to see what I saw.

No Johnny U....

One man's trash is another man's treasure...but he must be damaged goods for the Bears to give up on him.
Can the Ravens find somebody healthy?
They have plenty of injured players.
...Vasher, however, started only two games and lost his job to Zack Bowman. Any chance of competing for the 2010 nickel job was eliminated Tuesday after the Bears signed free agent Tim Jennings.http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/10901/bears-loyalty-to-vasher-goes-unrewarded
Sounds like he's washed up to me.

Yea...looks like it's true...
Edwards reaches deal with BillsDwan Edwards reaches an agreement with the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN.
The Ravens' free-agent defensive end had left his visit without a deal, but the sides reached an agreement later in the day.

Starting to get thin in the D trenches...

Maybe you cannot win with them, but can you play with them? Can you coach with them? Can you do it?
Sure you can. You can play and coach with Rosey O'Donnell at QB....but you can't win.
lol!
Look at how Delhomme cashed out even though he stunk it up...
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter first reported the deal, and a source told Schefter that Delhomme is scheduled to make $7 million this season, including just under $900,000 in base salary. With $12.7 million from Carolina, Delhomme will make $19.7 million in 2010. -
Wallace/Delhomme is no better than Anderson/Quinn.
Holmgin isn't an idiot....they will be drafting a QB...probably in the 1st round because they can't win with what they have at QB.
Can't.

"Well...I had been drinking a little crav...and that was a long time ago...

Right after the Raider playoff game a guy crashed his plane in the upper deck of Memorial stadium. 10 minutes sooner and a lot of people would be dead.
I was on the other side of the wall when that happened.

Can't leave anybody out!
While suffering football withdrawal on this rainy Saturday I stumbled upon this 10 minute NFL video of the 2007 Ravens/Pats game. Look for Stallworth...he makes a few plays. Anyway...it got my blood up.

Love this video on Memorial Stadium Home Field Advantage...I grew up there....saw it all.
Memorial Stadium was built in 1950 and located on 33rd Street and Ellerslie Avenue in Baltimore. It was the home of the Baltimore Orioles from 1954-1991 and the home of the Baltimore Colts from 1953-1983. The stadium was built to replace Oriole Park, which burned down in 1944 and was home to the Orioles of the International League. It was a $6.5 million project and hosted football and minor league baseball games at first. Memorial Stadium originally seated 31,000 fans but was later expanded to fit almost 54,000 for baseball and 65,000 for football. The inscription on the wall read: "Dedicated as a memorial to all who so valiantly fought in the world wars with eternal gratitude to those who made the supreme sacrifice to preserve equality and freedom throughout the world -- time will not dim the glory of their deeds." The Colts played their first game at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 27, 1953, beating the Chicago Bears, 13-9. In 1959, John Unitas led the Colts to their second straight NFL championship with a 31-16 victory over the New York Giants at Memorial Stadium. In 1970, the Colts beat the Raiders there in the AFC Championship to advance to Super Bowl V, where they beat the Dallas Cowboys. -
lol!
Bouldin said Ray Lewis called him and said "It's in Dallas this year."

I'm not buying any of this Cam/Flacco rift stuff....some fans have too much time on their hands with fertile imaginations.
just because Cameron has what could be a much-improved wide receiver cast doesn’t mean he plans on calling more pass plays.Cameron pointed to the New Orleans Saints as an example. In 2008, the Saints led the NFL in passing attempts with 636 and completed 64.9 percent of the time. Last year, when it won the Super Bowl, New Orleans ranked 15th in the league with 544 attempts. Only this time, the Saints completed the pass 69.5 percent of the time.
Cameron’s goal this year is for the Ravens to complete 70 percent of their passes. “It’s doable,” he said.
“Just throwing the ball more doesn’t translate to more points. Will we throw it more? That can happen. But the biggest thing for us is being efficient. I think you’ll see a more efficient passing game and better execution.”

They'll go with Kelly Talavou and bring in some other unknowns (like Kelly Gregg was).

I was a kid and we parked outside their hotel when the Rams came to town. We were going to yell at them...give them a hard time....until we saw how big they were comming off the bus!
I never understood the knitting thing he was into....but he was a good guy.

It's official...from the Ravens website...
Mar 10, 2010, 8:03 PM: The Ravens have reached a two-year agreement in principle with WR Derrick Mason. They are announcing it on the radio...Willet and Wilson...
The Baltimore Ravens reached a two-year agreement in principle with wide receiver Derrick Mason."We know exactly what we're getting with Derrick and that's production,” Ravens General Manger Ozzie Newsome said. “Every Ravens fan knows what Derrick brings to this team. It's reliability, toughness, leadership, the fight to win, the want of the ball in the clutch times. He has a two-year history with Joe (Flacco) that says 'we know how to produce together.' They are on the same page."
"This is outstanding, just great news for the Ravens,” Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “Our coaches are happy. Derrick's teammates are happy and you know Joe (Flacco) is smiling. Way to go to Ozzie (Newsome) and Pat (Moriarty) for getting this done. We would have lost something special if Derrick had gone to another team. We have gotten better in the last couple of days.”

Now the receiving corps is seriously ugraded!

I completely agree. Folks who were commenting recently that they wouldn't mind seeing Gaither go for that first round compensation seem to have forgotten how incredibly awful Cousins was at RT last season.
Cousins = Kip Vickers

Come on now Derrick!
He who laughs last, laughs best.
They made you filthy rich and then they spared you the agony of having to hang around.
They let you go Dude!
Your Free!
And Rich!

I've got some "If's" here...you know what they mean...
I'd say top 10 if they bring back Mason or somebody who can put up similar numbers and draw the same attention from defenses.
If Stallworth stays healthy and plays like a 'man on a mission' they could push 'elite'.
If Joe Flacco takes the next step in this, his 3rd year. He has to be able to read and react fast and utilize the whole field.

"Mike, what do you think about this?"
Smith wants to go to Cleveland? Really? Cleveland? Now you know why Troy Smith is a second-string quarterback.
You have to question his decision process when he starts begging to go back to Cleveland.
Heck, nobody begs to go to Cleveland. Half of Cleveland doesn't even want to live in Cleveland.
Orioles Falling Apart
in Baltimore Orioles / MLB
Posted
varav...I saw Brooks and Frank Robinson hit back to back homers and I knew the O's had them. Mo Drabowsky...the Mad Polack threw 12 strikeouts.
Then a young Jim Palmer out duals Kofax (27 wins that year) by throwing a 6-0 shutout.
It don't get any better.
dc...I follow what you are saying...look at the core future.
Force...right now that's what I see...maybe 5 wins better than last year.
