  1. This is how I see it. If anything, this will speed up signing Gaither to a long-term deal. We are essentially letting Gaither go out and set the market himself. A first and third round tender is basically a franchise tag, no team will make an offer on him and it says the team is taking a wait-and-see approach. But with only a first round tender the compensation is realistic enough where if a team really wants Gaither, they will make an offer. If a team makes him an offer, we get to match it. If the offer is too high, we get a first rounder. It is a win-win in my opinion.

Good points and I see it that way too.

None of this is confirmed yet but these are decent sources.

According to various reports, the Ravens have begun the process of offering tenders to their restricted free agents.

Starting left tackle Jared Gaither, cornerback Fabian Washington, fullback LeRon McClain, safety Dawan Landry, punter Sam Koch, quarterback John Beck, guard Chris Chester, offensive tackle Tony Moll, linebacker and special teams standout Prescott Burgess, and kicker Billy Cundiff have all been mentioned.

ESPNs Adam Schefter wrote on his twitter account that Gaither, a former fifth-round supplemental draft pick, received the first-round tender.

Aaron Wilson of The Carroll County Times tweeted Burgess earned a low tender.

And, The Baltimore Sun stated that Washington and McClain got first-round tenders, Landry and Koch received second-round tenders, and Beck, Chester, Cundiff, Burgess and Moll all have the low tender.

The Ravens have not made any formal announcement regarding their restricted free agents.

    Restricted free-agent recap

The tenders have been flooding in for the Ravens' restricted free agents. Here's the recap:

FB Le'Ron McClain: First round ($2.3 million)

CB Fabian Washington: First round ($2.6 million)

P Sam Koch: Second round ($1.7 million)

SS Dawan Landry: Second round ($1.7 million)

OL Chris Chester: Low (means third-round pick as compensation, $1.1 million)

QB John Beck: Low (means third-round pick as compensation, $1.1 million)

K Billy Cundiff: Low (no compensation, $1.2 million)

LB Prescott Burgess: Low (sixth round, $1.1 million)

OL Tony Moll: Low (fifth round, $1.1 million)

Just waiting for the official word from the Ravens.

  2. It starting to heat up and get exciting.

The Broncos definately want to move Marshall...and they will.

Now..(if the Ravens want Marshall)....the Ravens are in competition with the teams who have an earlier first round pick. If those teams are in the NFC then that makes it even harder.

If Ozzie wants Marshall, then he might have to give up more in order to compete.

  3. What about Tim Tebow as a Raven? Say in the 3rd round.

He might drop to the third round and he's been a spectacular football player for 4 years. Let Troy Smith go, get a better back up in Tebow, develop his mechanics over the next 2 years, make a "Suggs" package around him,...if Joe goes down I think he wins more games than Smith and you must have 2 good QB's to make it through a season.

  4. Here's Hensleys take...he has it like you are saying geo...

If Chester gets the low tender somebody will pick him up.

I think McLain should get the first round tender...he's a beast the rushing attack needs and other teams need too.

Here's an update on the UFA's...

NOTE: The Ravens have informed unrestricted free agent wide receivers Derrick Mason and Kelley Washington, defensive end Dwan Edwards, defensive tackle Justin Bannan and cornerback Frank Walker that they want them back. With the exception of Mason, there haven’t been any preliminary contract discussions. Mason is seeking a two-year deal with a lot of upfront money.

  5. I don't see how he can help the offense get better.

Ozzie won't handicap Flacco with 2 36 year old receivers (Owens and Mason)...that would be like having Ray Rice play in cement shoes. They need speed there...field stretchers...burners....some young guys who can grow with Joe.

At this stage of his career, Cory Ivy can cover him.

  6. Some Ravens material is comming from the Combine.

It looks like Reed, McGahee and Smith will be back according to Harbaugh...also the players recovering from injuries will be ready for camp.

    There's the T.O. rumor...

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh did not rule out the team going after free-agent receiver Terrell Owens.

Morning take: I'll believe this one when I see it. I can't see how Harbaugh's experience with Owens in Philadelphia was good enough for this to happen. But credit Harbaugh for not ruling anything out.

I hear the Ravens are working on signing Mason and that his desire for a 2 year deal is not a problem.

and...here's a sampling of who the Ravens talked too at the Combine...

The Ravens have talked with several players at the scouting combine. That includes Cincinnati wide receiver Mardy Gilyard, Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate, Illinois wide receiver Arrelious Benn, Georgia Tech wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, Syracuse wide receiver Mike Williams, Ole Miss wide receiver Shay Hodge, Pitt tight end Dorin Dickerson, Iowa tight end Tony Moeaki, Oregon tight end Ed Dickson, Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, Auburn linebacker Antonio Coleman, Clemson linebacker Ricky Sapp, James Madison linebacker Arthur Moats, Arizona State defensive end Dexter Davis …

  7. 104-100 over Virginia Tech.

That was a great back and forth game to watch and a huge Maryland victory. They had never won at VT and this win solidified second place in the ACC and a first round tournament bye. It was a team victory despite Vasquez scoring a career high 41 points. Now he's only behind Juan Dixon and Len Bias on Marylands all-time scoring list. Hayes, Milborne, Gregory and Mosley played a big part in scoring and rebounding as Maryland scored 104 points.

Duke stands in the way. If they can beat them Wednesday night then it would bring about a 1st place tie in the ACC. A big "IF" because Duke slaughtered them in their previous meeting.

  8. Maybe he'll light a fire under Suggs...got to improve the QB pressures.

...Suggs. “Coach Monachino challenged me to be the best I could be every practice, every game and every day. He is a perfectionist who will get the best out of all of us. I am really excited to work with him again.”

Being an outside linebackers coach means that Monachino will focus on the Ravens’ hybrid edge rushers. Last year, coordinator Greg Mattison took a large part of that role, working individually with Suggs, Paul Kruger and William VanDeSteeg in practice.

  9. Keep up the good work Matt.

I usually don't start looking at the draft until a month before it because I get caught up in free agency.

Nevertheless, all this information makes for good reading and food for thought....with the combine starting it's time to crack the books.

For now, I'll let guys like you and cleetz do my homework for me because I'm a lazy slob...mustard.jpg

  10. When 29-year-old Donte' Stallworth worked out for the team early last week, he stepped foot on the SportGrass and ran a 4.40-second 40. It's the fastest time recorded on the turf by the club.

That's impressive. It says he's real damn fast and in great shape.

  11. That game had me on the edge of my seat all the way. Insane fantastic finish.

It was an important win too (19) because not as many ACC teams will get into the tournament this year.

It was also a time to reflect on what an incredible career Vasquez has had at Maryland.

Let this sink in...we're talking about the ACC All Time... with the it's huge list of incredible players and Vasquez is the FIRST ACC player to reach 2,000 points, 700 assists and 600 rebounds. It was definately the right and best thing for him to come back this year.

  12. I read this article by Banks while trying to get a grasp on how the Free Agent market will work this year. I'm trying to see how Ozzie can move players off the roster while upgrading the talent pool and he has a decent hand as far as the amount of RFA's on the Ravens roster. He can increase his draft picks with lower tenders hoping teams will be tempted to take some of his RFA's, use high tenders to make some trade deals to get some good draft picks (again...hoping teams will overspend on picks because they are desperate to upgrade a position) and he can shop picks for RFA's who he thinks would be of higher value than the picks he has to surrender to get them.

To have a successfull 2010 FA period the Ravens have to be creative and aggressive in this area because the UFA cubbard is bare. I get the sense that this could happen from the Ravens 'State of the Ravens' press conference because they seemed comfortable that they had the talent and the smarts to do well in and unstable market.

As one veteran personnel man told me: "Teams will be hesitant to give up picks in this draft. There's some real value in this draft, so teams want as many picks this year as they can get. But I think there will be some action in the restricted market, with people looking for bargains. If a guy is tendered in the fourth round, and he's better than what you can get in the fourth round, teams are going to go after that player.

"We've got some restricted guys that we frankly hope some teams come after, just to get the draft picks. If someone says they're interested, we'll say you can have them, and you don't even have to overpay. We'll work out a trade then.''

More than one club executive told me he expected the trade market to be more active than ever next month, because with unrestricted and restricted free agency expected to be so limited this year, only the draft and trades remain as ways to upgrade rosters.

"It may be a situation where there are more trades, because if a club tendered a lot of guys, but now someone comes after one of them, maybe they're willing to be flexible and work with you on a trade,'' another veteran NFL general manager said. "Just because his tender is a (first) and a (third)-round pick, maybe they're willing to take less than that and be creative, and now you've got a deal. I think there's going to be a lot of that type of dialogue because of the circumstances this year.''
