  1. Who did I say were #1 receivers besides Kenny Britt, Hakeem Nicks, and big, strong guys like that? DeSean Jackson? I went through the past decade of drafts and listed all of the guys who have had success at any receiver spot, just for the sake of easy reference. Was not suggesting that ALL LISTED were #1 types.
  2. Rice is awesome, and I'm sure we'll get him signed to a reasonable deal. But if it was a matter of overpaying him, I'd let it ride in a heartbeat. RB is, without question, the easiest position in the NFL to replace.
  3. You think we'll overpay to keep Flacco specifically because of how much we've struggled over the years to find a better-than-average quarterback? There was a stretch there where we were going through 2 or 3 quarterbacks a season... and Flacco hasn't missed a game in his 4 years. This may be worth an extra few million a year, specifically because of our organization's history. Just a thought.
  4. We can't know for sure where to place all the blame... there's just as much of a chance that Flacco is making his receivers look bad as that they're making him look bad. Every team has drops, but guys like Brady and Manning consistently make mediocre-to-bad receiving talent look like pro bowlers. Torrey Smith and LaQuan Williams? Manning had Garcon and Collie. And there was a year when Brady's #1 receiver was Jabar Gaffney and he still threw for 4400 yds and 28 TD - without ever having a running game like we do. It's Cam's fault, it's Joe's fault and it's the receivers' fault. And you could always argue that one creates the other, but we really have no idea.
  5. Sorry Crav - I don't see you as any type of greeter.
  6. Oh come on. You guys are something else. Flacco over Eli? Flacco over Romo? And to think there I have been accused of being a homer at times... that's a whole different level of homerism. No one would take Flacco over Eli or Romo or any of those other guys. Heck, no one would take Flacco over Cam Newton.
  7. Wherever I'm at There are a few in the area
  8. I didnt even look at this when I made my list, but check out espn's new total qbr season ranking. Flacco was #15. The top 5? Rodgers Brees Brady Romo Ryan. And this takes into account crucial plays, fumbles (joe had 11), and rushing.
  9. That's why Romo is way underrated... fans are used to him being compared to the top guys like Brees and Rodgers, and he's not there. But Joe isnt even in that conversation yet.
  10. Ryan MAYBE, but not definitely... Stafford is definitely better, if he could stay healthy... Romo and Vick are in a tier above Flacco altogether... Cutler is a baby, but he's better than Flacco. Like I said above - the list isn't in a very definitive order, but I'd definitely take any of those guys above Flacco if I were starting a team from scratch and the guys were all in their prime. Flacco is promising, but he's not a top-tier QB. And before the AFCC game, this wouldn't even be a question. But he did have a great game (against the worst pass-defense in AFCC history, with receivers covering Anquan Boldin and practice-squad players covering Lee Evans). But he did play a pretty good game.
  11. If you're going to honor celebrities, you have to honor every hard-working American who wasn't born with preternatural gifts but still gives everything they have to support their family and country.
  12. I wouldn't even go that high. I say he's somewhere around the 13-16 range. I just threw together a quick list of how I perceive the top quarterbacks in the NFL... and I included Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler. These were my top 15... didn't put a TON of thought into the order, but it's a good model. 1 Aaron Rodgers 2 Tom Brady 3 Peyton Manning 4 Eli Manning 5 Ben Roethlisberger 6 Drew Brees 7 Philip Rivers 8 Tony Romo 9 Matthew Stafford 10 Jay Cutler 11 Matt Ryan 12 Michael Vick 13 Joe Flacco 14 Cam Newton 15 Carson Palmer
  13. And my original point is that, regardless of which circumstances, receivers often fall much further down the draft than they would based on talent alone. Receivers have been falling further and further the past 5 years, with the number drafted in the first 3 rounds declining every season.
  14. That, or will decide he isn't even worth a pick in the first 3 rounds because he can't read an offense to save his life and consistently gets in fights on and off the field, in practice and around campus. And this is coming from a guy who has him as his profile icon.
  15. Considering the Giants just won the Super bowl with the last-ranked rushing offense in the NFL... I don't think it matters. Green Bay was 27th, and they went 15-1. And often played with a lead (which should up your rushing numbers). New England 20th. #1 Denver #3 Carolina #4 Minnesota #5 Philly For whatever it's worth...
  16. Correct - only DirecTV has Sunday Ticket, for the foreseeable future. Comcast DOES get NFL Network, though....which Bright House does not.
  17. But could Leron be the starting tailback if Rice went down? He seems like a good #2 of a 1/2 punch, but not a legitimate #1 backup.
  18. And I'd take either of those guys (in their prime) because when they're "trying", they're unstoppable. Jackson's punt return against the Giants last year? Incredible.
  19. Mid-to-late first maybe.. but second round? Definitely his size and durability were the bigger concerns. Still are, actually.
  20. Kenny Britt is definitely #1. DeSean was underdrafted because he weighed 165 lbs and played receiver, not (just) because of his attitude. Plenty of jerks get drafted high. Lee Evans was a #1 in Buffalo...he could be that guy... he had an injury-plagued guy...not sure about that one. For the record, I wasn't saying all of those guys are #1's...just showing all of the receivers who have had some measure of success, and where they were drafted. It's not one of those "the top guys are usually first rounders" positions, at all. Tons of first-round busts and late successes, as you can see.
  21. If we're worried about Joe winning the Super Bowl... I'd say that's the kind of problem you're happy with at that point.
  22. With WR's it is. Receiver is one of the most undervalued position in the draft. Go look through the last decade of WR's and where they were picked. I broke it up by early first (19th overall or earlier), Mid (20-26), and Late (later than 27th) Don't worry too much about that part... I don't know why I did it that way. 2011: Early: AJ Green, Julio Jones. Mid: Jon Baldwin (26th) Late: Torrey Smith 2010: Early: None Mid: Demaryius Thomas (22), Dez Bryant (24), Late: Arrelious Benn, Golden Tate, Brandon LaFell, Damian Williams, Jordan Shipley, Eric Decker, Mike Williams, Jacoby Ford, Antonio Brown 2009: Early: Darrius Heyward-Bey, Michael Crabtree Mid: Jeremy Maclin, Percy Harvin Late: Hakeem Nicks, Kenny Britt, Mike Wallace, Louis Murphy, Austin Collie, Julian Edelman 2008: Early: No 1st round WR Mid: No 1st round WR Late: Jordy Nelson, Donnie Avery, Eddie Royal, Jerome Simpson, DeSean Jackson, Early Doucet, Harry Douglas, Andre Caldwell, Lavelle Hawkins, Josh Morgan, Pierre Garcon, Stevie Johnson 2007: Early: Calvin Johnson, Ted Ginn Jr Mid: Dwayne Bowe, Robert Meachem Late: Sidney Rice, Steve Smith, Laurent Robinson, James Jones, Mike Sims-Walker, Steve Breaston 2006: Early: None Mid: Santonio Holmes (25) Late: Greg Jennings, Brandon Marshall, Marques Colston 2005: Early: Braylon Edwards, Troy Williamson, Mike Williams (USC) Mid: Matt Jones, Mark Clayton Late: Roddy White, Vincent Jackson 2004: Early: Larry Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, Reggie Williams, Lee Evans, Michael Clayton Mid: None Late: Michael Jenkins, Devery Henderson, Jerricho Cotchery 2003: Early: Charles Rogers, Andre Johnson, Bryant Johnson, Mid: None Late: Anquan Boldin, Nate Burleson, Brandon Lloyd 2002: Early: Donte Stallworth, Ashlie Lelie Mid: Javon Walker Late: Antwaan Randel-El, Deion Branch 2001: Early: Koren Robinson, Rod Gardner, Santana Moss Mid: Freddie Mitchell (25) Late: Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson, Chris Chambers, Steve Smith, T.J. Houshmandzadeh
  23. No you don't - those guys are late 1st/2nd round guys all the time. Hakeem nicks, 29th. Britt 30th. Even boldin was a 2nd. Brandon Marshall, Colston, mike wallace, steve smith, T.O., Ochocinco, desean Jackson, etc. Even dez Bryant fell to what, 24? And he was hyped! Just saying. Receivers fall A LOT more than other positions. there are tons of examples of this.
  24. Because I like his sledgehammer style... and he can catch out of the backfield. I'd pay a million a year for him.
