Camp updates Saturday

We know about Pita...here's some camp updates thanks to Joe Platania...

The defense dominated most portions of practice, not unusual for the first week. Rookie linebacker John Simon brought down tight end Matt Furstenburg with a hard sideline tackle, and linebacker Nigel Carr celebrated wildly after taking down Bernard Pierce on a goal-line run.

- Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor sharply executed a play-action fake and rifled a pass in the end zone to David Reed, who promptly dropped it. But later, Reed made a nice sideline catch while leaping over cornerback Corey Graham.

- One day after booming a 58-yard field goal -- which would have been a team record -- kicker Justin Tucker made the crowd gasp with delight with 60- and 65-yard kicks, which would have been good from even further back. :gorave:

Harbaugh put his players through a goal-line, full-hitting drill, saying it was the first and last time he would do so this camp. Linebacker Terrell Suggs jumped offsides, one of many pre-snap penalties during the July 27 practice. The defense mostly dominated the drill, leading Suggs to taunt the offense by saying, "Where's Vonta Leach when you need him?"

- Left tackle Bryant McKinnie held up much better and completed the practice. Also, cornerback Asa Jackson returned to the field. But Pitta's injury wasn't the only one to a tight end; backup Alex Silvestro had to be helped off the field late during practice, making veteran Visanthe Shiancoe's visit July 26 all the more timely.

- Even with McKinnie's return, three more offensive linemen, Yanda, substitute left tackle Kelechi Osemele (hamstring strain) and rookie sixth-round pick Ryan Jensen (leg) each missed at least a portion of the July 26 workout and all of the July 27 one. Also, wideout LaQuan Williams (Poly, Maryland) is battling an arm issue, and wideout Marlon Brown (unknown) missed another day.

It's going to take time to adjust you figure they have lost their two biggest red zone threats in Pitta and boldin earlier.

Oh I know, I was making a funny.

But on a serious note, Im hoping the critics will be silenced with the we lost Ed & Ray & Kruger & Pollard & Williams nonsence. This D will be better then last years D.

Here's some more updates...

WHERE IS VONTA LEACH?: Things did not go well for rookie fullback Kyle Juszczyk in the Ravens' first goal-line drill of the summer. As the lead blocker for Bernard Pierce with the first-team offense, he got knocked backward on one play by safety James Ihedigbo. On another, he stalemated with rookie safety Matt Elam, whom he outweighs by 35 pounds. Later, as second- and third-teamers got opportunities, Juszczyk got pushed around by linebackers Arthur Brown and Bryan Hall on two plays. When the drill ended, linebacker Terrell Suggs yelled out, "Where is Vonta Leach when you need him?" Leach, of course, was cut by the Ravens last month, but the All-Pro fullback could return.

UNDER SIEGE: Flacco hasn't hid his frustration the past couple of days as the pocket has constantly collapsed around him. He cursed loudly after Suggs got a free run at him on one play. Later, linebacker Josh Bynes blitzed up the gut to quickly record a sack. The offensive line struggled in the first week of camp, messing up the timing of the passing game.
