cravnravn Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 .30 to go, Dallas Clark drops TD pass, we settle in for a field goal and a 3 point lead at the half. Beginning of 2nd half:We kick off, Manning needs 2 minutes and 30 seconds to score and gives the Donkeys a 4 point lead, aided by the Coaching blunder of the year, the bounce pass to Welker that is ruled a catch, and not challenged by Harbs. Denver kicks off to us, we proceed to go 3 and out, the sad thing is the sequence of that drive: Rice -2Incomplete pass to DicksonFlacco Sacked for -4 yards Oh Punt blocked and recovered at the 12 yard line The rout was on so from .30 left in the half to 12:30 left in the 3rd quarter, we go from having a 3 point lead to an 11 point deficit. We had a TE blunder and a Coaching blunder in that same time frame. Quote
vmax Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Most games are won on a few (1-4) game changing plays. This was obviously the turning point in this game. Credit Manning and Denver for hurrying to the line of scrimmage before the Ravens could challenge.Credit Denver for blocking the punt. They made the play and took command. Your head has to be in the game every second. The Ravens players and coaching staffs minds were elsewhere. Quote
Money Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Crav...I don't view it as a coaching blunder. The problem was that Harbaugh had to waste a challenge in the first half to overturn that horrendous missed call on the pass that bounced a foot in front of Thomas. If Harbaugh had both challenges still in his pocket, he wouldn't have hesitated. As it was, if he was wrong on the Welker play, the Ravens would have had zero challenges left for almost the entire 2nd half. The Welker play was a lot closer and they weren't showing the replay in Denver. I think the NFL should change the challenge rule to if you are correct on your first challenge, you get two more regardless of if you are right or wrong on your 2nd challenge. Quote

If thats the case then I totally misunderstood the rule, I thought we won the first challenge on the first Manning bounce pass? Quote
RavenMad Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Yeah we won the first challenge but you have to win both challenges to get a 3rd challenge. If he lost the Welker challenge he would have been out of challenges for the remainder of the game and there could have been something later in the game that was worse than the Welker one. That said, he finished the game with a challenge remaining so I'm a believer in use them while you have them because you can't take them to the next game and hindsight is always 20/20. Quote
yourdreamwillend Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 I would narrow it down to 2 plays Clark catches that TD pass and the Ravens are on the road, up by 7 with the momentum Advance to the first drive of the second half. A correct call on the dropped pass and the Ravens now have the ball, the lead and the momemtum. Ravens win Quote
cravnravn Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 I totally agree dreamer...I feel the drop at the half and settling for a FG, kinda took the wind out of our sail. Quote
cravnravn Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh didn't want to get into specifics Monday on how the team failed to challenge Wes Welker's third-down catch in the season opener. HarbaughWith the Ravens leading 17-14, Welker trapped a pass that extended an eventual touchdown drive. After the loss in Denver on Thursday night, Harbaugh said he was unaware of the situation because NBC failed to show the replay in time. On Monday, he put the responsibility of not challenging the play on his team and himself. "I just think we could have done a better job with that looking back on it, to get that information communicated," Harbaugh said. A reporter asked Harbaugh to clarify the Ravens' communication process when it comes to replays. "I think everybody understands how it works, we just have to do a better job with it," Harbaugh said. "We have to see it." http://espn.go.com/blog/baltimore-ravens Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 I like some of the things I seen in the game, and I guess you have to look at it that way and the way John is saying. Maybe not just in that time but part of it. Mistakes that you can make adjustments for. Block punt should not had happen, and I blame on the coaches. They already had a holding call on that side when punting, it was not looking good on the left side when punting. They needed help on that side, it was seen but nothing done. When the offense took the field after Joe's INT they changed their tempo and play calling. Why? They need to look at what they did with the TEs. Keeping Clark over Furstenburg due to blocking. Haven't seen Clark blocking anyone just letting balls hit the ground, as he was doing in the preseason. Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Also want to point out that Suggs didn't have a great game against the one guy they had on him most of the game.I seen 2 and 3 guys knocking 58 around. Why is it that Suggs can't beat his one guy while they were beating the hell out of Doom? And with all that going on, where were the guys in the middle of the D? Quote
Robjr83 Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Suggs was on Clady... one of the best OT's in the game. Quote
