GrubberRaven Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Better for the long run...his knee was like a time bomb... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 What happened? i thought he only needed PT. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 He got a second opinion. He had this injury in Delmarva and his knee, from what I've read, is not the most stable to begin with...he opted to stabilize it. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Oh damn. Is it the same knee that he came down on bad in the last week? Quote
thundercleetz Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 I'm not doctor but from everything I've read this seems like a long-term move. Manny is young and a season is long. If he misses the first month of next season that is no big deal in the grand scheme of things. 1 Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 I didn't know he had a knee issue. With that the way he performed was amazing. Quote
thundercleetz Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Congrats to Manny on his first (of many) Gold Glove. Additional he also won the Fielding Bible award, which a lot of analysts consider a higher honor. It is going to be very difficult to move him off of third base. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 The O's need to redo his deal now. Quote
dc. Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 You'd have to be insane to redo his deal now. He'd be insane to redo his deal now. If we redid his deal now (he is not arbitration eligible until 2016 / free agent until 2019), we'd be paying him millions more over the next 5 years than we'd have to. Worth it? Perhaps. But still simply money you don't have to spend. For him, he'd be taking exceptionally low value. He is smart enough to wait until later, when he's got more gold gloves, more all-star appearances, (hopefully a few rings and a few MVPs), ... and then he can really cash in. 1 Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 If they lock him down to a 10 yr deal now giving him a raise but not waiting until when he gets to FA and gets $25 mil a yr. Maybe they can do his deal at $15 mil a yr now. It would work against Manny's interest. It would be like the Longoria contract. It worked very well for the Rays. If they don't sign him long term I don't think Manny will be an O for life. Quote
thundercleetz Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I'd at least make every effort to sign Machado long-term as soon as we can. Tulo and Longoria took long-term deals early. We have to at least try. Quote
