dc. Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Yahoo and others reporting he'll see Dr Andrews tomorrow while the team is in Florida about elbow soreness that has persisted. Fear is it is a torn ligament that could require Tommy John surgery. Great way to continue a killer start to the season for him. But good thing we got Clevenger who has shown he can hit so far. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 If he gets Tommy Johns he is done for this yr and part of next. Quote
dc. Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 Oh, easily. In fact, probably done into the middle of next year at least. Would be devastating - though would make him a more affordable (and riskier) resign. Just sucks. He's had a great year a the plate so far... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I would guess about All Star break is when he would be back. It would give him time to be fresh for the end run off amazing stats for a short season and go for the huge deal. Don't save anything. Quote
thundercleetz Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Reading around other boards the consensus I've gathered is rehab on TJ surgery takes less time for position players than pitchers. About right months I read. I want to research if there are other position players who have come back from TJ surgery recently. Is there a best case scenario for Wieters? Rarely do you see a guy go to Dr. Andrews with elbow soreness and it is not a tear. Is it too much to hope that Wieters just needs some rest? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 But catcher is a little different than OF or 1st. There are a lot of throws from that spot. I can see it not taking as along but I think it takes a while. One thing is he more than likely will have a stronger arm afterwords. Nobody will want to take a bag on him. Quote
thundercleetz Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I also can't help but wonder, if this is a serious injury why would the O's even risk DH'ing him tonight? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 It is strange. I can't see it really effecting him at the plate though. It maybe a little painful but not like throwing. It is a different motion and you have a 2nd arm to help. Quote
thundercleetz Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Sounds like the O's are optimistic. Apparently Wieters has already had an MRI and been receiving treatment. I don't think Buck would have said he expects Wieters to catch tomorrow if the MRI came back positive. I guess we'll see. Quote
cravnravn Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 He had the MRI Monday, he sees Dr Andrews today. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140506&content_id=74534462¬ebook_id=74537728&vkey=notebook_bal&c_id=bal Quote
GrubberRaven Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 No surgery needed according to reports on Twitter. Will DH and Caleb Joseph is being brought up. Quote
thundercleetz Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Whew dodged a bullet! @masnRoch: Buck expects Wieters to be in lineup tomorrow. Probably DH. Available tonight. #orioles @masnRoch: Buck said Wieters will catch in "near future." Won't rest him any more than already planned before elbow issue Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Don't count those chickens completely. You have to wait and see if it gets better or worse over time. Quote
dc. Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 Apparently it has been getting better but they wanted extent which is why they went to Andrews. I would rest him through the week but bet he'll be catching by Saturday. Quote
thundercleetz Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Very good win. Add in the Wieters news and yesterday was a good day for the O's. We really have some guys who can absolutely crush the ball. Schoop and Jones killed their HR's last night. And Cruz's past two HR's have been double and triple deckers. Fun to watch. I really think Schoop is going to get better as the year goes on. He'll never consistently take a walk, but he seems like a kid who has tough skin and learns from his mistakes. It's really fun to watch him go to the batter's box with no gloves on hacking at balls. With his size, power and bat speed he's kind of like a poor man's Vlad Guerrero. Did anyone see his walk the other day? He passed up on two very questionable calls by the ump. The radio announcers were joking he either is seeing the ball really well or is extremely confused in the box haha. Quote

Let Caleb have the shot defensively Weits is still in the lineup at DH. Quote
thundercleetz Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 The only problem with using Wieters as a primary DH is we might have to carry three catchers and Cruz has to play in the outfield. Quote
thundercleetz Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Actually scratch what I just said. Wieters took ground balls at first today. That could be an option. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 8m Heard from two sources that Wieters' throwing program with #Orioles not going well and that surgery looks increasingly likely. However... Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 8m ...a third source says it is too early to make a determination, that #Orioles' Wieters is having good days and bad. Quote
dc. Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 July 1 was team deadline apparently... They are trying to avoid anything till then. But definitely haven't heard anything good recently. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I don't see how he could start the 2015 season if they do TJS in July. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Roch Kubatko @masnRoch 5m Wieters seeing Dr. Andrews next week - School of Roch: Orioles catcher Matt Wieters will visit orthopedic spec... http://bit.ly/1pxapzj Quote
cravnravn Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I don't see how he could start the 2015 season if they do TJS in July. BINGO, if he needs TJ, do it now Quote
thundercleetz Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Ewww doesn't look good for Wieters. Kind of similar to the Dylan Bundy situation awhile back. Elbow injuries are never good news and it always seems surgery is inevitable. Crazy Quote
