SpearSrai Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 *INJURY REPORT IS FLACCO-FREE Despite widespread speculation regarding quarterback Joe Flacco’s health, the Ravens did not include his name on the first injury report on the week leading up to a playoff matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. Flacco had previously been bothered by a hip injury. He walked with a slight hitch in his step prior to last Sunday’s wild-card contest in New England, and after completing only four of 10 passes for 34 yards and one interception, many outside the organization questioned whether the injury was worse than anyone was letting on. “I feel great this week,” Flacco said on Wednesday. “I’m moving around really good. There’s nothing really to it.” http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/?p=3063
thundercleetz Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Lets hope Gaither plays, we don't want this to be the situation: How would you shuffle the O-Line? Left tackle Jared Gaither surprisingly missed Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury. Gaither had missed three games before playing the regular-season finale and the wild-card playoff game. If Gaither can't play, rookie first-round pick Michael Oher will move from right to left tackle. But how would you organize the rest of the offensive line? Would you put Oniel Cousins at right tackle? The physical but emotional lineman started three games at right tackle in December. His personal foul in Pittsburgh was critical because it pushed the Ravens out of field-goal range. Or would you move Marshal Yanda from right guard to right tackle and start Chris Chester at right guard? Chester started the first 10 games at right guard before the Ravens decided to put Yanda back into the starting lineup. Chester is essentially the Ravens' blocking tight end these days. If Gaither does not play, that Colts defense could very well look like the '85 Bears like they usually do against us.

There's no way Gaither doesn't play in this game. The rest is precautionary.
colincac Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I would definitely use Cousins. We are going to be a heavy run team this week, and Cousins can hold his own in the run game. I expect to see A LOT of Chester and that heavy package...
ForceEight Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Absolutely. You just do not put Cousins on the field.
SpearSrai Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Absolutely. You just do not put Cousins on the field. Not even in the big formation? Isn't he a decent run-blocker?
ForceEight Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Not even in the big formation? Isn't he a decent run-blocker?Decent, sure, but I think a healthy Yanda has proven that he's better at both.
SpearSrai Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Decent, sure, but I think a healthy Yanda has proven that he's better at both. In the big formation, you would be using both Yanda and Cousins, obviously.
RavensNest8483 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Why not move yanda to tackle, then just put Cousins at his spot and keep Chester as the blocking TE?
thundercleetz Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Gaither is listed as probably on the injury report, that is a big relief.
thundercleetz Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Ravens QB Flacco still on mend The hip injury that Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco suffered against the Raiders in Baltimore's regular-season finale was so bad that he could not sit during any of the flight back from Oakland, according to a league source. The hip caused Flacco so many problems the next week that, in the days leading up to the wild-card game against the Patriots, there were some Ravens players who wondered if their quarterback would be able to play at New England, as Flacco's leg had filled with fluid and had three inches of swelling. Flacco was better this week before Saturday night's divisional playoff game at Indianapolis, but he still was not fully recovered.
ForceEight Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 With all this talk and confusion about Flacco, it's ironic that today is his birthday. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Flacco

Asked what he will get for Flacco, coach John Harbaugh said, "I'm going to get him a bus ticket to the stadium. How about that?" Saturday is also the birthday for Colts coach Jim Caldwell. "Is it really?" Harbaugh said. "I'll have to consider that."
