dc.
Caliendo is great. My only problem with him is he occasionally is impersonating the caricatures of these guys - or their famous roles. His Morgan Freeman is great, but he's only doing Freeman from Shawshank. In real life, Freeman's got an awesome voice of course but sounds more casual. I've always liked this bit - there's something just simple about it.
dc.
By the way, I may have shared this before, but on the topic of Geoff the Robot (tangent)... I don't know that late night has ever been funnier than when Larry King stood in and voiced Geoff for a night. He didn't really understand the concept of, "the sidekick gets to make a one-liner ... then shuts up." Fast-forward to about 2 minutes to hear him interject and ramble ... and ramble... In real life, Freeman's got an awesome voice of course but sounds more casual. To me a good impersonation (at least for comedic purposes) does just that - goes a little over the top and maybe exaggerates some of the more unique features of a person's personality, voice, speech. For example, Barkely doesn't say knucklehead every 2 sentences in real life and Madden doesn't go BOOM! as often as Caliendo does but that's what makes it funny. dc.
I don't entirely disagree. I just think it gets old sometimes. Not sure how many times I can listen to his Barkeley impersonation because ALL he says is knucklehead... or that's how it feels. Just depends what the goal isCaliendo does what he does better than anyone. Just not always what I'm in the mood for.
