There was a point in the offseason when the Ravens expected to have Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce running the ball for them this season and then that shifted to an expectation of Pierce holding down the fort for two weeks before Rice returned from suspension.

That went up in smoke in September when the Ravens released Rice in the wake of the release of the video of him punching Janay Palmer Rice in the face in an Atlantic City elevator, leaving the Ravens to lean more heavily on veteran Justin Forsett as a complement for Pierce. Forsett has proven to be more than that, however.

He’s become the top dog in the Baltimore backfield and strengthened his hold on the job against the Titans last weekend by running for 112 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. That performance in a 21-7 Ravens win was enough to convince the NFL to name Forsett the AFC’s offensive player of the week.

It’s the first time that Forsett has been so honored in his career, which is fitting since the journeyman has already set career highs for attempts, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns with six games left to play in the season.

Too bad they didnt go for that third touchdown.

Yea...but he'll push harder to reach the end zone on the longer runs.

Remember when, early in Rice's career, he was always getting tackled before crossing the goal line?

Forsett is really amazing to watch him stop, go, and hop in, out and between the tackles. You can't teach that.
