vmax Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 The Ravens hired former Buccaneers assistant Joe Cullen as their defensive line coach.........he's perhaps best known for a couple of off-field indiscretions that occurred earlier in his coaching career. [h]Cullen was arrested twice while he was an assistant with the Lions in 2006. The first incident was for driving under the influence. The second was for driving naked through a Wendy's drive-through in Michigan.[/b].......http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/bs-sp-ravens-coaching-changes-0116-20160115-story.html We are they doing?Really? Are they that tired and burned out from last season that they couldn't put a little thought into this?Find somebody better? He may really have his shit together now, but who's gonna listen to him? Joe at a young age.... Quote
dc. Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Even the Ravens aren't immune to the good old boys network - perhaps what I hate most out of all sports realities. Friend, brother, former player? You're on. Quote
TBird Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Gotta give him an A for originality going thru Wendy's naked. Quote

thundercleetz Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I am much more excited for the Leslie Frazier hire as our DB coach. Heck, I wish Frazier was our DC. Quote

Friend, brother, former player? You're on.That's how we got Caldwell, he's was Ozzie's pal. He hired him to help him get another head coaching gig and he did. Caldwell was also on OZ]sshort list when HARBs was hired by Bisciotti. Oz's old pal Marty Ball who coached him in Cleveland was also on the list and so was his sonBrian in NY considered a hot item at the time. HARBs brought guys like Mattison whom he worked with from his father's team in college and some others. Quote

It's not about the good coaches who deserve to be hired where a connection helps you land him. It's about the bad coaches who stay put and keep getting hired for that same reason. It's the quid pro quo on recruiting and coaching that starts way earlier. Honestly,it wasn't even a statement about this guy as it was about hires in general. In every sport. The guy with the name, the guy with the connections, the guy with an IOU from someone lingers around for years while who knows how many skilled people are passed by. I'm certainly sympathetic to alcoholism and all for second chances, but just how many people get arrested twice in a matter of months and not only keep their job but continue through the league in such a way without almost any repercussions? Pro sports are so far removed from the real world I nearly stop watching. Quote
