the Young signing and the Flacco trade are indicative of a new approach being spearheaded by longtime Ravens exec Eric DeCosta in his first few months taking over as general manager for legendary Ozzie Newsome. Yeah but they also had the Flacco contract restraining what they could do.

 

I do like the energy DaCosta is bringing to the FO.

Exactly what I have been saying for so many yrs. I am really loving Eric's approach. BTW Joe didn't stop them many times. They waited to long with Ngata. They could have saved so much had they inked him 2 yrs earlier.

I meant that the size of Flacco's contract restrained them not his play for the most part. When he had weapons Flacco was successful (Mason, Rice, Boldin, Heap, etc.

He has had pretty good weapons a few times. He has underutilized them whenever he has them.

 

As for contracts and getting them done early I again look to Ngata. He was inked to the 5 yr deal in 2011. Joe didn't get his deal until 2013. Ozzie just sat there and allowed the market to wash over him. That was his SOP as gm. Never get ahead of the problem.
