Torrey Smith= Randy Moss style debut

Ravens rookie receiver Torrey Smith played in the first two games of the season, but with Lee Evans playing the role of field-stretching receiver, Smith didn’t get many reps in the offense. With Evans out on Sunday due to a lingering ankle injury, Smith got his opportunity.

And he made the most of it.

Smith had three catches for 133 yards and three touchdowns. In the first quarter.

It was a debut that conjured memories of Randy Moss, who torched the Cowboys with three catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns on Thanksgiving in 1998.

The difference this time around is that few people were watching the Ravens-Rams game, a CBS late-afternoon regional broadcast on a day that featured a FOX doubleheader. If it had happened on national television and/or in prime time, Torrey Smith would have been the toast of the league this week.

Instead, he’ll simply be the toast of Baltimore.

It was a tremendous feat....but the water on it is that he did it against a terrible Rams secondary.

Do something close to that Sunday night...even 50%, and his bandwagon will begin to load up because Rex will go all out to shut him down.

Torry's about to face some real adversity.

"He's had one big game, that's it," Cromartie said of the second-round pick from Maryland. "He's had five catches for his whole career, and it's a three-game career. That's it. There's nothing on him."

Why do people keep posting the picture of Joe's overthrow to Torrey? lol

Fox and Yahoo both had that shot as a headline last week. Show a picture of him actually catching a TD.

The worst thing about the overthrow is Torrey could have caught it if he had run full steam throughout the route. When he was running towards the safety he slowed a little and then put on the afterburners when he saw the ball in the air. He also did that on 1 of his receptions but the ball was perfectly thrown by Flacco so he was able to get there. Hopefully there is a lesson in there for Torrey.
