cravnravn Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Kindle Fire, I want to get it for the Mrs, will she be able to play Pogo on it? Quote
Spen Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Sorry I cannot help. My wife owns and loves her Nook, but I do not know anything about the Kindle. No Vmax, this is not a leading statement. My wife just loves her Nook and can barely keep her hands off it. Even in public. Quote
Guest BallTMore Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Kindle Fire runs on the Android OS, which supports flash. Pogo runs heavy on flash, so yes, you can go to Pogo.com on a kindle fire. Also, the Kindle Fire is wifi only, I think. Quote
cravnravn Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Hey BallT, I run on MiFi I guess its the same thing? Quote
Guest BallTMore Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Hey BallT, I run on MiFi I guess its the same thing? Yep. It should all work fine. Quote
vmax Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I think I'll get a Nook because you have access to way more books than Amazon. This should seriously help me in my quest for knoWledge of things they are not wanting you to know. and to think it all began here.... Quote

My wife really does love her Nook. You can use it at the library too which is kind of cool. Quote
Guest BallTMore Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Nooks are nice, they're even better if you root them (Rooting an android device is the same as Jailbreaking an iPhone) Most people bought a nook, rooted it, and turned it into a fully functional Honeycomb tablet at half the price of others. Quote
Spen Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Honeycomb's big...yeah yeah yeah! It's not small...no no no! I'll use an old jingle to cover up my ignorance. Quote
Guest BallTMore Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) Sorry. I'm a huge geek when it comes to Android. Honeycomb is Android's latest operating system for tablets. They name their updates after desserts. 1.5=Doughnut, 2.0 Eclair, 2.2 Froyo, 2.3 Gingerbread, 3.0 (Tablets) Honeycomb, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Edited November 16, 2011 by BallTMore Quote
vmax Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 All my phones are droids...personal and business. Love my incredible. Quote
Spen Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I do not know much about phones because I work at home so I cannot (or do not) justify having an expensive cell when I am almost always around a computer in the house. I do have a basic cell but I pay as I go and rarely use it. If (probably when) I start working outside of the house I will buy something better. Doesn't the Nook Color automatically use Android software? Quote
cravnravn Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Hey if they still had the big cell phones from the early 90's with pull out antennae, I would have it..Im just not into this internet on the phone bs, Im sorry but my vision isnt that good even with bi focals Quote
Guest BallTMore Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Doesn't the Nook Color automatically use Android software? Yep. However, the version the Nook Color runs is the same version that is run on most cell phones (Modified of course). Very nice as is, good price, but if you're in to rooting your devices you can turn the Nook Color into a fully functioning Android tablet, not just an e-reader. Quote

When we were on vacation my wife was using her Nook Color to check restaurant menus online, watch videos, listen to music, and surf the web. I do not know what else it could do that it did not do already, though I am sure there are things. I am not doubting you, I am just curious. Quote

I did not realize the Nook was basically a tablet out of the box. I do know it did not come with the latest OS (Honeycomb). Whether or not that was updated I'm not sure. Can you download/buy apps from the Android Market on a Nook? Quote
Spen Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 From what I can find online the OS is probably FroYo. The Nook Color itself "helpfully" tells me it has software version 1.3. You can download and buy apps. Quote
cravnravn Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 OK, Staples is having a Black Friday sale, either the Nook or the Fire are 199.00. Which one should I get? Quote
Guest BallTMore Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Get the Fire. I saw an ad about 3 weeks ago stating the Fire was going to be $150 on black Friday, however I can't remember which store placed the ad. Keep an eye out though. Quote
cravnravn Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 The Fire arrived Thursday, and the Mrs went shopping yesterday, so naturally I couldnt resist The porn downloads lightening quick Wont she be suprised Christmas morning, I took the liberty of downloading an ESPN app, so when she starts it up, shell be able to give me real time scores. cravnravn Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 Well we are having mixed results so far, there are games on Pogo that download and there are games that wont, says I need Java, I thought Java came with it??And if I do need Java, I dont know what the operating system is But man it downloads books quickly!!! she has 3 in her library that were "Freebies" thru Amazon. cravnravn Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Alright, a couple of quirks Im finding out with the Fire.. I can read Extreme ravens, but it wont allow me to log in to post. I click on Sign In and nothing happens. Facebook, not sure how to log in and out, when we first went to facebook I had a sign in screen, so I logged in, but now I dont see a log in/out icon so the Mrs can change log in's. This has happened frequently, we'll power up the Fire in it will be in a date either April or May of 2012, and when that happens you cant surf the net..So what I do is shut her back down wait a few minutes, re-power her up and the correct date is there.
