That's good to hear about Jones. I've been worried about him especially. But now the whole D-line is shaping up. I am looking forward to watching the game Saturday evening so as to get a good look at our rookies and depth. Not expecting a win. Looking for a good effort and no injuries.

Putting on full pads for the fourth time in training camp, the Ravens had one of their most physical practices of the summer. It was also their sloppiest.

Baltimore's first, second and third offenses totaled eight false starts during the two-hour practice. The Ravens' starting offense jumped offside twice during a red-zone drill.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter indicated the offense was trying to mix up the quarterback cadence on Sunday to keep the defense on its heels.

"I think it's a great message of just the focus and the details that's required for that to become a real weapon and not something that puts you behind the chains like it did a few times today," Minter said.

Just like he's done all camp, rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane had a couple more big plays, including working back to make a 15-yard grab in front of cornerback Marlon Humphrey. But Lane's most impressive play Sunday was his block on the perimeter that helped running back Derrick Henry gain some extra yards.

Minter reiterated that wide receiver Zay Flowers won't miss much time after leaving Saturday's practice with a quad contusion. "I feel good that he'll be back out there being Zay pretty soon," Minter said.

Safety Jaylinn Hawkins has made it difficult for wide receivers to go over the middle. On Saturday, Hawkins' collision with Flowers caused him to leave practice with a quad contusion. A day later, Hawkins crashed into Rashod Bateman to force an incompletion. Asked if there is a lesson for Hawkins to learn, Minter said, "I really don't want to put that on him. When you're a safety and you're breaking on the ball, there's just a little bit of an awareness of not trying to have the body-on-body collisions. We certainly want Jaylinn to play with the mindset that he plays with. So we'll continue to just be really, really careful about that."

 

Kicker Tyler Loop was 8-of-8 on field goal attempts, including three from beyond from 50 yards. Loop, whose missed 44-yard kick ended the Ravens' season, has been starting to hit a groove in camp.

You must have read my mind. I was going to post about this myself just now.

Yeah, I'm concerned about the sloppy play and pre-snap penalties. The offense hasn't yet adapted to the variable cadence that Doyle is attempting to put in. Actually, pre-snap penalties have been the bane of the offense for the last several years and that was even when the cadence was more regular. It's a simple thing but one the team just hasn't been able to get down on.

This week will be interesting...what with the game coming up on Saturday against live ammunition, the offense is going to have to show signs of getting over that hump. As you said camp is half over. Time to be weeding out these problems.

Good news on Loop so far, but can he do it in live situations? I thought they should have brought in a kicker to compete with him. I would have like to see him up against an average veteran to see how he did but the team elected not to do that.

And our punter draft choice hasn't had an opportunity to punt out of formation against a rush?? I find that to be somewhat negligent on the coaching side of things.

A lot to find out this week for sure.

Per NBC

The NFL will allow its 32 head coaches to designate a member of their staff to initiate replay challenges this season, Kevin Seifert of ESPN reports.

The head coach had been the only member of a team who could throw the red flag to challenge a play.

Beginning this season, a member of the staff can take on that assignment from the head coach. But teams will be required to inform officials of that before the start of a game.

I'm not sure how much I like the idea of an assistant coach being delegated that task. Seems like one more step where communication during the heat of the game can go awry.

As for Randall I'm also interested in seeing how he does in the game. There's been good reports on him so far. 

Sarrat, I don't know. Seems like Lane has moved ahead of him on the hype chart so far. I like Sarrat too and hope he gets a chance to catch the ball.

Interesting, though it is unofficial two surprise me. Bullock is listed as a 3rd left GUARD, not at center. And Randall is listed as the 4th runningback behind the always fumbling Ali....

Yeah, Bullock at guard sounds like a typo. He's earned at least a shot as Center, though I think Pinter has been solidifying his chances at Center according to news reports. I'm not worried about Randall. I've got an inkling he'll show his worth in preseason. We'll know a whole lot more about all these guys after the Philly game and next week's joint practices with the Vikes.

Wiggins injured and carted off field...appears to be a left leg thing...apparently got feet tangled up with Lane on a 1 on 1 drill...no further word at this time.

Ali has to be the odd man out, he was a Harbs pet, never getting reduced carries for fumbling..

According to Wbal, no structural damage to the knee, but he did need help getting off of the cart and into the building

Running back Adam Randall’s roster spot appears relatively secure as a fifth-round pick out of Clemson who was handpicked by owner Steve Bisciotti. Randall’s expected summer workload still makes him one of my most intriguing players to watch over the next three preseason games.

The 6-foot-3, 232-pound running back looks the part. Randall has shown reliable hands during receiving drills and rarely wastes a rep as a primary ball carrier. Over the past couple of padded practices, he has broken tackles, changed direction effectively and consistently finished his rushes with maximum effort.

Randall, a converted wide receiver, is still learning the nuances of playing running back in the NFL. The preseason should offer coaches and fans alike a clear look at how far along he is in that development.

The Baltimore Ravens are making a change at quarterback, as the team announced they have signed free agent Austin Reed. 

Reed's arrival is due to Skylar Thompson being injured and now being placed on injured reserve. Thompson had not been at practice the past two days, and it appears his injury was far worse than expected.
