thundercleetz Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Rex Ryan, please dont go to Indy.. Jim Caldwell is taking over as the head coach (many teams interviewed him last offseason, but he stayed because the Colts gave him the future job). He has been Dungy's heir for a longtime now. Dungy is a sure-fire Hall of Famer. He went 92-33 and made the playoffs all seven seasons in his time with the Colts. The Super Bowl win definitely capped off a Hall of Fame career. Quote
thundercleetz Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Rex Ryan, please dont go to Indy.. Rex Ryan is apparently the frontrunner for the Jets job. He met with Jets owner Woody Johnson and GM Mike Tannenbaum in Baltimore for five hours yesterday morning. Quote
cmacarolle21 Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I am I mistaken in saying we've had 3 different defensive coordinators since 2000 and our defense has been dominant almost everyone one of those years. While I'd like Ryan to stay it's not as big of a blow as most you think. Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 How did Ray put it? "You want to be a head coach? Come coach me." Quote
thundercleetz Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I am I mistaken in saying we've had 3 different defensive coordinators since 2000 and our defense has been dominant almost everyone one of those years. While I'd like Ryan to stay it's not as big of a blow as most you think. Preston wrote an article about this in the Sun. We have always had an heir to the defensive coordinator job. I remember Rex kept trying to leave to be a DC elsewhere when Nolan was the guy, but we would not let him because we knew Rex would eventually become the guy. Who is in the wings now? There is Vic Fangio, But Preston says the players think he is too "stiff". Mike Nolan would be great, but I have heard he is close to joining Denver. Maybe Nolan waits so he can return? Here is Preston's article on the situation: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/footbal...,4203614.column Here is a great point, which makes me a little less worried: Logic would dictate the Ravens hire someone on staff who is familiar with the defense, and also someone who Harbaugh hired, not a leftover from the previous regime. The top two candidates would be linebacker coach Greg Mattison or secondary coach Chuck Pagano, both of whom Harbaugh hired. They have at least a year in a system that has been extremely successful. Nolan operated a different system when he was with the Jets, Giants and Redskins, but once he took over in Baltimore, he did it the Ravens' Way. Quote
ForceEight Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I think Pagano's the guy, personally. But, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see an outside hire. Quote
BengalBilly Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 How did Ray put it? "You want to be a head coach? Come coach me." Marvin Lewis rode that very wave to a HC job. Quote
SpearSrai Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Either Pagano or Mattison would be fine. I would expect very little dropoff if any in our defense next year. Quote
