ravinmaniac52 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 -- Jets HC Finalists: Steve Spagnuolo & Rex Ryan -- Tue Jan 13, 2009 --from FFMastermind.com The New York Post reports the source familiar with the Jets' plans for head coach said the team is deciding between Giants DC Steve Spagnuolo and Ravens DC Rex Ryan for the job. The Jets also plan on keeping OC Brian Schottenheimer under either man, the source said. Schottenheimer interviewed for the head coaching vacancy and impressed many in the organization. They fear the public backlash that would occur if he was given the head coaching job, though. Schottenheimer served as HC Eric Mangini's offensive coordinator and was never a fan favorite. The Jets finished 25th, 26th and 16th in total offense under him. This season, the offense vanished during the team's late-season collapse, struggling on third down and a failing to get the ball to playmaker RB Leon Washington. A separate league source said that Ryan impressed the Jets' brass during his interview Sunday in Baltimore. The meeting lasted five hours, and a source close to Ryan said he had a good feeling after the interview and thinks the Jets have good personnel in place. The problem for Ryan is he cannot be offered the job until the Ravens' season is over, which could be after the Super Bowl. If the Jets wait that long, it could be challenging for Ryan to put together a coaching staff. With the Giants eliminated, Spagnuolo could be offered the job this week. The Jets likely will invite Spagnuolo back in the coming days to interview with owner Woody Johnson, who was out of the country when he interviewed the first time. A source close to Spagnuolo said the Jets had not contacted him about a second interview as of yesterday afternoon. Spagunolo was busy yesterday with the Giants, closing out the season. The source said he will sort through the teams interested today and schedule interviews. Quote
cravnravn Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Go Spags You're the man for the job!! Quote
SpearSrai Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I think Rex is the better fit given the personnel they have in New York, but Spagnuolo would find a way to utilize those guys as well. I'd go with Ryan because he has probably picked up some assistant head coaching experience this season. Quote
colincac Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 They are gonna go Spag, take away a guy from the Giants haha. That would be fun for the JEts fans. Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 -- Rex Ryan Likely to Become Next Jets HC -- Wed Jan 14, 2009 --from FFMastermind.com The New York Daily News reports the Jets' coaching search got off to a clumsy start, with owner Woody Johnson out of the country and with Bill Cowher in and out of contention, but the process finally is starting to crystallize. If the Steelers beat the Ravens Sunday in the AFC Championship Game, the Jets will have their head coach in place by early next week, according to league sources. Barring an unexpected development, perhaps another team stealing him away, that coach will be Ravens DC Rex Ryan. Quote
ForceEight Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Should've happened last year. Not really worried. Quote

Heck, Suggs, Scott, and Leonhard are FA's as well. Think some of these guys won't bolt to NYJ. Quote

SpearSrai Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I hope they don't hire Spags before we either win the Super Bowl or drop out of contention... Doesn't seem fair to punish a guy for winning playoff games. Quote
