Thank you Ravens. From the bottom of my heart!

Yeah, those blitzes are pretty bad calls by Pittsburgh. That bootleg call was terrible as well.

I didn't say their coaching was bad, I said it wasn't a factor in why they were winning. There was nothing special about the call for Dixon's bootleg, he's a mobile QB who threw 1 Pro pass before tonight and yet we weren't even thinking containment on that big run. Even Chris Collinsworth called the bootleg run before they ran it, but of course we weren't prepared for it.

We're playing a third string QB for goodness sakes, and we're going to be lucky to squeak by with this win.

I don't understand where the problems with Flacco's performance comes from, at least seemingly from a couple people in this thread. He was 23/35 (65.7% completion percentage), for 289 and a TD. He converted on a big 4th down with a beautiful pass (made even more beautiful by Rice's run, be he had the 1st when he caught it) and threw a couple of nice passes on the bomb to Clayton and the TD. He put us into range for a FG at the end of the half before the sack. And he did all of this while getting beaten to death by Pittsburgh's D (5 sacks, numerous other hits and hurries, and a bum ankle to boot). And you're trying to put the blame for being close on Flacco? Really?

We will just agree to disagree then. I don't see how you can discredit the coaching in why they were winning. They have the #1 defense for goodness sakes. Tomlin and his staff did a EXCELLENT job of protecting Dixon. He was touched maybe once. I am not so sure it was bad calls by Mattison, the blitzes were timed well, a lot better than usual when we jump early giving the offensive line time to adjust. The offensive line picked them up everytime, kudos to the Steelers coaching staff!

Bob Costas says:

"Paul Kruger couldn't have been more of a nightmare for Dennis Dixon if he was Freddy Kruger"

I missed that statement, but it was the thought in my head at the time it happened

I completely agree. Flacco was obviously gimpy on that ankle. He was not stepping into his throws causing inaccurate passes. Nonetheless Flacco manned it out and managed to drive us down the field multiple times. The key thing is that he did not make any terribly bad decisions.

I don't have beef with the way our offense played against Pitt's D with the exception of our Oline play late in the game. I thought Flacco did well, obviously Rice (with the exception of that missed block) and Mason. My disappointment lies with the defense. I am extremely disappointed that our defense couldn't shut down an obviously watered down offense being run by a third stringer. Foxworth was a disappointment against Holmes today. Pryce showed why he is now a pass rush specialist and not an every down end.

At any rate, I will enjoy the win.

I'd say for the rest of the season.

A loss pretty much eliminates playoff hope

a shitty week because I live in Pittsburgh and would have to hear about it every day.

I don't think the D really played that poorly. Dixon was 12/26, with only 145 yds. We only allowed 14 points. The Steeler's were able to run the ball a bit, but they committed to that the entire game. Anyone who watched Dixon at Oregon knew he could run, the play just broke down on his touchdown. Contain bit for the fake in the opposite direction, plus an all-out blitz up the middle equaled a bad play (and Miller did an excellent job calling for the ball to keep Landry covering him so he couldn't get over). Webb almost had (and probably should have had, the ball hit him in both hands) another pick that would have rendered OT moot. I don't see what we would have expected to be better, its not like Pittsburgh lost its Pro Bowl receivers or Mendenhall, who is having a great year.

Oh. Well that's worse, as they would pester you for the rest of the season as well

keep in mind that the decision to start Dixon was made Saturday so I am sure we were game planning for Jen. Even if they did do some planning on Dixon, there is much film on the kid other than a couple of preseason games. I just hope there weren't any more injuries that came from this game! BTW, Hines Ward totally threw Jen under the bus before and after the game. WOW!
