Cincinnati dominates the north for years to come
tsylvester replied to dapetes's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
They had their starting qb, a major difference.. You can say excuse, you can say close games catch up to you. True but also misleading. The fact is this team made up of mostly frie cooks on defense, a qb with no playing time, was in most every game and one play away in 6 of the loses from making the playoffs. How good was Ten? They lost their only playoff game, yippie... Now they get a low draft pick. -

Yeah, I just wish they would do away with pregame shows, show commercials for that hour, do the same for the half time shows, afterall, the broadcasts teams just repeat what the aforementioned have said. This way they can keep the injury timeouts, and called timeouts, but we will see the 3 + hour in 2 hours or less -

Six games were lost by a total of less than 15 points; six. This with the plethora of injuries, including their quarterback, 2 starting pro bowl corners, and a safety. They had a ton od first year players, practice squad players not just starting but playing a majority of the snaps. Did I mention the issues with injuries on the offensive line, the running backs? Six games, <15 pts. This is a team that went 14-2 not so long ago when fully healthy. The only real question, & yes it's a big question is Lamar. Can he stay healthy, illness or injury. Shoot the most disappointing thing to come from the pressconfrence is that Lamar is still not healed from a bone bruise 2 months ago... Then there is the question about his passing accuracy, reading a defense quickly, getting the ball out on time. Yes I know, big questions, but again, 14-2, when healthy. Will the Bengals be good for a while? Likley, but nothing unbeatable, nothing more than the battles we've had with Pitt over the years. Frankly, they are going to face cap issues in the near future as well. The future is not so bleak -
Listening to Harb's pressconfrence today, reading a little bit into one of his answers, they are going to be looking into, draft, adding speed to the defense...

Stafford will throw 3 picks, will the Bengals catch them? He does it every game, if they catch them, its a Bengal Super Bowl win
-
Based on the way the NFC teams are playing, Bungles lilely win it all... This looks like who chokes last...
-
Then in over time he almost throws a pick on first down, second down and then throws into double coverage- pick, Bengals win. Reid lost the game with his poor decision to not kick the field goal up 21-3 with 5 seconds left in the half. But Mahomes could have made up for it with better play in the 2nd half.. Maybe we, me included, need to give Lamar a break.. It just shows how great Brady was, given Rogers, Mahomes, etc unable to win more than 1 to this point..
-
Wow, what a "choke job" to end the first half, costing them 3 pts and likely no over time. Then his second half passing, 3 straight drives where he leads receivers a bit too far on 3rd downs, ending drives which allow Cinci to claw back into the game. Yes, even the great ones make huge mistakes..

He retires, please set your flags at half staff, send your regards to the networks so that we can have all day coverage every day...

We get to watch the games on television because of him, he did so much for the sport. Another reason why the HOF is a joke...

Well said Grub, I know he is young but he has been at a leadership position for a long time dating back to college and he still makes questionable decisions on & off the field. The Ravens were in a sticky position after the first Super Bowl, needed to upgrade the qb position. Fans and some players revolted when Dilfer was cut... Then after the 2nd super bowl, they were faced with a not dissimilar decision, to pay Joe or not to pay Joe. They did but never upgraded the offensive line.. Now, here we are again, to pay a qb or not to pay him, to change or not... Fans and players will revolt, even more so than when Trent was let go, if they don't sign Lamar, if they trade him. They have atleast up graded where they needed to for this qb, the wideouts.
-
Sell, they may lose as many as 12 players in free agency, that is high turnover. Not to mention the question about Lamar amd his passing/decision making. This is going to be a real wait & see offseason

Well when you have your star qb flaunt the covid rules, go out and party and get it twice, what do you expect. Who is going to step on him? When you have defensive players blowing coverages, FOR YEARS, and they are still starting, getting plenty of playing time, what does that say? Sure, lesser named players who are 2nd, 3rd string get sat down, don't dress for games when they blow bkocks in practice, sure, that sends a message...not

I would rather they had gone for Weaver. I know he doesn't have the longer term coaching experience, but he is football smart, a great leader, and, a players player.
-
Against poor teams, against the little sisters of the poor. I sure hope if he does come that he leaves his players to go other teams. No way do I want to see a Michigan player deafted in the first 4 rounds.

Leadership starts at the top, can you learn to be a leader? Sure, can you lead with words, or is it action? Both.. As fans we can say a team lacks leadership, but that is perceived, it may not be reality. We can follow clues, and this team has left many of them...

Over rated but always hustling

Hmm, should be interesting. His defenses were really only good against poor teams... Save one game against Ohio St...

True, but if his head is right, and the team faltered again, ie Lamar, would Payton not be worth a few? -

Welp, maybe the news of Payton leaving the Saints will either delay this new deal or put am easy out clause in for next year when Payton is reading to come back to coaching... -
He can ctach passes from Lamar all he wants, in the off season. But when the season starts, he can catch fish in the Seattle fish markets..

April fools comes early, has the groundhog even been yanked from his cage to fake a shadow puppet show?
-
Yeah, surprised GB played so poorly on offense & special teams... So does Rogers go to Indi, Pitt, Miami, stay in the NFC?
-
Harbs has one year left on his contract, right? So, why let Wink walk with one year left? Lame duck is a lame duck...
