Roster cuts, when they are announced.... take your guesses
tsylvester replied to tsylvester's topic in Baltimore Ravens
They did know, they had hoped to get him the practice squad, another team decided he was better than he looked.... -
This is a pretty good read on the mess that is the NFL right now. I know, many are sick of gate this gate that, but the inner turmoil could be a sign of things to come. Afterall, once you are at the top, there is no where else to go but down... http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13533995/split-nfl-new-england-patriots-apart

Charles James declined to sign with the Texans on their practice squad, instead choses the Ravens practice squad. He is a 5'-9" db, can return kicks & punts, at best he is a dime back, but who knows.... -
It would take a first, plus I am sure. Could the Ravens afford it? Would they? Seattle is in need of a top quality guard, and the Ravens have two of them. How likely are they to keep both Kelechi Osemele and Marhsall Yanda? Yanda wants top money, the Ravens rarely pay top dollar to offensive lineman..... sadly...... Ose will be a free agent after the 2016 season Yanda The Ravens don't need the best in football, but they clearly need a serious upgrade at safety and Kam has a lot of years left to play... thoughts?

I agree to a point. However, the league was wrong, thus the judges ruling. tampering with game equiptment is, well, tampering with game equiptment; an unfair advantage. In that game, the Colts' footballs, once the truth came out, were under almost exactly the same amount, yet no punishment. The fact the league truly had no system in place to 1) properly, consistantly measure the air and 2) record the air pressures is laughable. I am not sure if the judge mentioned that part, I did not read his entire ruling, but boy what a mess the NFL made over something that had no bearing on the game, We/ I can say that since Brady played much better in the second half, after the footballs were changed out..... Great discussion though.

Precedent, remember. If something, in a court of law now, is not "listed", then one can rely on what was previously done. Remember, the judge brought up the punishment in relation to how punishments are done, under conduct detrimental, to those who use roids or are abusive, 4 games. While at the same time, Brady was only accused of tampering with equiptment. In that case, you have to turn to precedent, which then falls to what have they done before with "stickum, greasing uniforms", etc which all are only finable offenses for the first two instances caught.

Final cuts in, though I highly doubt the final moves have been made.... Sorry to see Dino Nuggets, Deangelo Tyson, McGee and Toussaint go. I am almost certain they bring one or more of them back at some point. http://touch.baltimoresun.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-84366754/ -
What are your concerns heading into the season?

Wow, just wow, about the cuts they made today, wow.... concerns, the entire team now...... -
Precedent, the previous cases were all fines. The NFL agreed to the schedule of punishments the NFLPA outlined for first & second offfenses for "conduct detrimental to the game", all of them, fines. I didn't look up the exact rules in the CBA, but here is a good article on this-http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/08/conduct-detrimental-vs-equipment-violations-in-brady-vs-nfl/ It reminds of the time Jamaal Lewis got into trouble with that drug issue. Everyone wondered how long he would be suspended, most thought 4 games. However, because the NFL used certain verbage, Jamaal fell under certain criteria which ment the max he could face was a fine & 2 games. In Brady's case, while the Comish could impose what ever he wanted, in this case, only with in the perview of the rules he and the NFLPA agreed to, when they did the new CBA; fines, fines, only then a suspension after repeated issues. Since this was Brady's first offense, he had to be fined at max. Thus, the judge's ruling. In his ruling, through all the pages, you see everything I have stated on this matter.
-
Yes, because the process was completely wrong in the first place. This is much like the police entering your house with out a warrant or permission, finding something illegal there, and arresting you. The charges would be thrown out.
-
Another owner speaks out about the way the comish needs to "change". Arthur Blank http://www.myajc.com/news/sports/football/blank-said-brady-ruling-is-unhealthy-for-nfl/nnX4P/

Ditto, I will add, special teams; coverage and returns.... -
I think Stan said it best last night; practice squad for sure. He is very raw but showed over each game, he learns quickly, rarely repeats a mistake and he is very smart. It is clear he studies tape as many plays as he jumped/sniffed out. The question is can he get stronger and a bit quicker? He is a keeper right now on the practice squad, worth a chance next year to atleast be a great special teams player.
-
They have no choice but to keep him, he is the best of the worst in the secondary and they can tell him to just catch the punts, don't return them. And do so only if no one is around him for say, 50 yards......

Did not happen, a few tackles, a caused fumble. Frankly, against the caliber of talent neither he nor Orr stood out other than a play here or there. No depth behind the two starters, they may have to switch to a 5-2 to keep the best front seven on the field. Look for two new linebackers draft next year, one of them, likely in the first round. Some good ones coming out.
-
It was the only way the judge could rule. This was about abuse of power, the process, not about whether or not Brady was involved in fixing the footballs. The CBA states a player who is deamed involved in something that goes against the integrity of the game is to be fined, not suspended. Goody went beyond that and suspended him, and did so for four games. Now, factor in the emails that were uncovered a few weeks ago showing some one in the NFL offices leaked to Mort false reports of the air pressures, and did so, quite exageratedly. So instead of being 1-2 pds under the limit, in reality they were only an oz or so under, leading to the reports that showed footballs can, do and have lost weight during cold weather games. In a court of law, to an outside observer, there is not enough, likely no evidence neither Brady nor the Pats in anyway, did anything to the footballs. Add in that several of the footballs the Colts used were also under weight, and Goody clearly went over board. Sure, there is an appeal, but that appeal is 1) likely to take years 2) Brady is likely to win based on how the judge worded his ruling.

Special teams, two games, two disasters....
tsylvester replied to tsylvester's topic in Baltimore Ravens
More apparent now, ASA is not a return man. Last night, while it was a nice punt return, he almost let the ball slip through his hands when he transfered it after catching it, then the trip......... Then the fumble on the other one...... Maybe Camp will be the man.... Kick offs, oh brother, Mcgee is not the anser unless they want to start each drive from the 15...... He is just not fast enough out of the end zone. I like him, but Tousaints is the better option from a return/running back point of view. He is quick out of the endzone and has elsusiveness to make men miss. He catches it clean, unlike McGee.... They talked about Smith being the punt return guy, I am not sure they want the only receiver who can get open consistantly, who is so old and in his last year, put into danger like punt returns.... This still looks to be a mess, maybe they have plan they are not making obvious.............. -
As one NFL exec put it, one for the thumb for Goody.....
-
If he ever learns how to avoid the wash, how to properly make his drop, his reads and, remember how to tackle, then he won't be a bust. But as Cleetz said, cheap back up....
-
Another loss for Goody, not good......

The New England Patriots were found to most likely
tsylvester replied to tsylvester's topic in NFL General
Brady wins appeal, maybe, could have, might have, not good enough for a court of law. Especially after the evidence surficed that the NFL purposely lied to Mort about the amount of air pressure.... http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/judge-lets-brady-play-ruling-against-nfl-in-deflategate/ar-AAdTXsh?ocid=U142DHP Per the CBA, fyi, IF Brady did in fact deflate or have the footballs deflated, a fine was the max the NFL could do to any player labled under the integraty of the game... -
http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-84318259/ I won't call him a hater (even though I think there is some envy going on there). I happen to agree with him, these gloves today are incredibly sticky, more so than stickem ever was for that matter. If you think low pressure on a football helped the Pats win a Super Bowl or changed outcomes of games, these gloves easily do.... I concur.... Now that would blow up the internet more than that family does......

I am a big fan of Cousins, (MSU fan big time, one of their profs is a Ravens fan from here, knew him well from another Ravens board, back when Insiders was huge).... any who, I don't think he is ready to start and frankly, the worst thing to happen to RG3 was getting drafted by the Skins. The 2nd worst thing was all the success he had his first year, after which he said this league was easy..........
