Apparently the Brown injury is serious. Regardless, it looks like Butler and Waller are really performing to try and be that possession guy. I am not worried about Perriman. A deep bruise can take over a week to go away. Looks like the Ravens are being overly cautious and waiting till he gets all mobility back, but reports are saying he's not limping or anything.

I think the team likes Hill more at SS, which is why they signed Kendrick, who is a natural FS. Sure, if Kendrick did terrible and Elam had performed, I'm sure Hill would be shifted back to FS. But the plan is Kendrick at FS and Hill at SS.

Interesting take on Parra and his breakout year, and what that could mean for his potential as a hitter: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/gerardo-parra-changed-man/ We have to sign him to an extension.
-
I think Lewis has FS locked up. Elam was competing with Will Hill to play FS.
-
Lineup looked awfully good last night with Machado and Parra at the top.
-
Hahaha oh man.

Nothing to worry about just yet. On the positive side everyone keeps raving about his speed, and how someone that big and strong can be that fast.
-
What a win! Givens pitched great. You love seeing guys like him do well after the rocky road he had to the majors transitioning from a highly drafted SS to a relief pitcher. Excited to see Parra bat lead off today!

I'm hearing Felix Pie being thrown around as a close comparison lol.

So the O's trade Tommy Hunter to the Cubs for AAA OF Junior Lake. I'm not sure if the O's see something in Lake and think he can contribute or if this is purely a salary dump/organizational move. I think the real value is the O's freeing up roster spots cutting the fat with trading Hunter and DFA'ing Snider and Norris, and giving a chance to stud prospect reliever prospect Mychal Givens. As much as the O's got better today, they were helped out even more that the Yanks did not get Kimbrel from the Padres, or any other impact player for that matter.

@Orioles: Additionally, the Orioles have designated RHP Bud Norris for assignment. Shame for a guy who won 16 games last year.
-
Parra is also in the middle of a hitting tear: @masnSteve: Mentioned last night, Parra's bat is sizzling recently. In 24 games in July, is batting .435/4/10 with 1.212 OPS. Has 14-gm hit streak. This definitely represents an upgrade: @danconnollysun: BTW: Parra's slash thru 100 games:.328/.369/.517. Os LFs thru 101 games: .210/.283/.330. They've used 6 guys in LF. 29th of 30 in LF average Maybe we could give Parra the money we were offering to Kakis last offseason. If we get Revere too the top of our order suddenly becomes very good. 1. Revere 2. Parra 3. Manny 4. AJ 5. Crush

@Ken_Rosenthal: #Phillies Revere still possible for #Orioles. One source says its 50-50.
-
O's get Parra for AAA pitcher Davies, pending physicals.
-
@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Orioles talking about getting both #Brewers Parra and #Phillies Revere and sending reliever Tommy Hunter to #Cubs. Orioles looking to shore up LF and RF it seems. Both guys are young. Parra is having an incredible year, but is a free agent at the end of the year. Parra also never has had a year like he's having, so we would be taking a risk of his production falling off. Revere is a true lead off guy with speed, and plays great defense. He is under control for a couple of years. Both Revere and Parra can hit lead off. Maybe Revere would hit lead off and Parra second. If we are going for it all, these two guys would be good additions.

The tests are different by position.

Believe me I completely agree. Which is why I would rather them give a chance to Alvarez, who is a 26-year old international free agent from Cuba, who has less exposure to our farm system
-
Former Ravens have been all over Twitter stating the Ravens have one of the toughest conditioning tests in the league. Basically if you don't pace yourself right you can fail even if you are in good shape.
-
I love seeing Reimold get starts in LF. I've always been a big fan of his. He is a very smooth athlete and has a balanced plate approach. Whenever he's been healthy and gotten consistent at bats he's produced. I wonder when Dariel Alvarez in AAA will get called up to get a shot at playing RF? He has been on a tear since winning the International League HR derby and his overall season numbers are solid. He doesn't get on base at a high clip, but he doesn't strike out at an alarming rate either and has good power (kind of similar to Schoop it seems). Alvarez is also said to have the best outfield arm in the entire Orioles organization.
-
@AaronWilson_NFL: Terrell Suggs is definitely not in peak condition, he did look slightly better than the spring when he was noticeably heftier than usual The good thing is he passed the conditioning test. That has given our players trouble in the past.

Was Waller the Perriman backup plan all along?
thundercleetz replied to TBird's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Watch out for DeAndre Carter. I think this kid is going to be a player this training camp. Elite quickness (sub-3.9 SS!) and playmaking ability. Great article on Waller btw. I am excited to see how Trestman uses him. If Waller is still raw, his talent is such immense that it might be tough to keep him on the roster knowing he won't contribute much. I wonder if he has a "mysterious injury" on goes on IR aka red shirts. -
He starts covering Houston the second week of August. He'll continue covering the Ravens until then, I believe. Huge loss, Aaron has been the best Ravens beat reporter starting from his time with the Carroll County Times to the Sun. Happy for him making a big move. Btw Jason Butt is also leaving covering the Ravens. Jason was really good. He took over for Aaron at the CC Times. Jason is going back to Georgia to cover his alma matter UGA.

I did not interpret it as a threat. I think Bisciotti is honestly stating the reality of the business. He doesn't want to be that guy who is engaged in an ugly battle over a stadium. I respect him that he isn't sugar coating this. This is something every team/city goes through, as you mention later in your post. I'm not worried, this isn't the Colts/NFL in the 80s where nearly every team had attendance issues. Our attendence isn't going anywhere, and no way a team leaves a market that has among the top attendence in the NFL on a yearly basis. In 5-10 years LA will already have a team, and possibly London. There will be no more viable markets available unless some crazy politician makes some sort of insane deal, which I guess is possible. The fact of the matter is attending NFL games isn't for the average fan anymore. It's about corporate suites and reaching the affluent fan base. I don't mind I much more enjoy watching at home and posting in the ER game day topic

Well I wasn't speaking to his personality. Just because he answers a few fan questions on Twitter doesn't make him a good guy. As a president and COO I'm sure he is every bit of a cold-blooded, micro manager as you mention. That seems to be an Angelos trait. What you said about John and revenue sharing and a salary cap is correct. I wonder if that's an indication of how much he'd spend as an owner? Regardless, the MASN lawsuit is the single biggest issue right now that could affect the Orioles future. If the lawsuit is in favor of the O's, the team will be assured of having a TV deal equivalent to a large market team for years. If the team loses and has to give more money to the Nats, the team's revenue will be more in line with a mid-market team and I'm sure the payroll will contract. People love to to criticize Peter Angelos for not spending, but we have the 12th highest payroll in the league right there with Seattle, Toronto and St. Louis. That's because of the great job Angelos did with negotiating the MASN deal with the MLB.

Absolutely agree. I am glad to see Lough and Reimold are getting regular PT. I think both guys could be steady performers for us if they got into a consistent routine. I also wouldn't be opposed to re-acquiring LJ Hoes and giving him a chance to play everyday.
