How can we give up Suggs if he isn't under contract? We're going to sign a guy like Suggs just to trade him? Also, my understanding is that while Boldin has had some issues with his coordinator and coaches, his fellow players love him. Now, that might sound familiar with a lot of people (McAlister, for one), but still worth considering. I would love to have Boldin. Not sure what I would pay for him, though. I don't know why everyone is jumping on swapping Suggs. How about CMac, who we are already considering cutting and who is already under contract?

I know it's crazy... I know it may never happen... But how about Jon Gruden for defensive coordinator? His ego may be too big... he may demand too much money (though, Rex wasn't cheap)... But the only job left now is in Oakland (with Philly and KC to come, perhaps), so we know he won't end up there. And I don't think he wants to go to the college game. He's young, he's smart, he's a bully... he doesn't strike me as being ready to sit back for a year either, even on TV. GO STEVE GO.

Well, he was signed by the Cubs at age 16 and taken straight over... In a way, he's much like Garrett Olson, but younger. Both have proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they have the skills... in every level of the minors. Both have struggled with the transition to the majors. Both, I think, will figure it out.
-
He struggled a bit in parts of two seasons with the Cubs... really, he only had about 80 major league at bats... that's about how long it took Markakis to find his groove with this team. In the minors though... a 289 average, decent power, good speed... [sorry - 80 at bast last year, 140 the year before - Still, hardly half a season of ML time.]

Yeah, but that's what we're trying to get around. If I'm not mistaken, two of Joe's picks hit a receiver before being picked off... the only "true" pick was to Polamalu. Now, the others might have been bad passes, but they were still a little unlucky on the pick side. Bottom line, there is plenty of blame to go around for an offense that struggled in many many ways.

They closed a few a month or so ago because of lack of business (not counting the Towson/Timonium one which simply moved). Don't know where you are, but the one in Towson is now in the Towson Marketplace (where the Wal-Mart ugh and Target and all are).

I mean, I hate how people are acting like he's the second coming and what not... but seriously... can't we give the guy, say, a month on the job before we rip him down?

Ok, here goes... When other people share things to me that I don't really want or need to know... I get uncomfortable.

I'm sure plenty saw and heard about his game against GT (which we somehow won) where he was cursing MD fans on court and between shots... it was ludicrous. He still doesn't understand... they aren't booing because you missed shots or didn't get rebounds. They are booing because you are selfish, don't understand how to pass, because you take STUPID shots and because, so far this season, the man you have been guarding has scored more points than anyone else on the court... game after game... And Gary didn't even have the balls to bench Greivis after the outburst at the fans. Unreal. While he was benched for ten minutes in another game we went on a 20-0 run!

Well, Angelos' anger over the Belle deal is mostly bullshit anyway... Belle's contract was insured and the insurance, not the O's, paid most of his contract. But it still scared Pete shitless. Meanwhile, it's kind of sad that a 10-11m/year deal is the second richest in club history... Regardless, glad to have Nick here and off the trade table for a long time.

I agree with someone who posted (here or in another thread) that part of the problem was staying in a max protect all game. We needed the help at times... but no reason we couldn't get Heap, Willis or someone on a little stunt/fake blocking scheme and underneath.

Out of bounds or not... his slam-tackle would warrant a flag no matter... And if he wasn't aware of his surroundings, he shouldn't have been on the field. Period. Honestly, I think it's more likely that he got hit hard early and was retaliating. -
Thanks, Cleetz! I'm trying... sorry for the mid-season lagggg.

You can be sure we'll find someone good to lead this D. We've got a young coach who has roots in the Eagles organization and in many college organizations through his brother. We've got the league's best GM ready to reel someone in - and you can bet he's had a list of who he wants for quite a while. We've got a great defense with three straight coordinators to head coaches... makes it hard to turn down an offer to coach some of the league's greatest defensive players.

Well, it may not be their fault that the play didn't get them open... But when Flacco has 4-6 seconds (as he did multiple times) it becomes their fault. Ben finds open men when the play breaks down all the time... and often for a bigger gain than if they play had gone as planned. Why? Because his receivers bust their asses. Additionally, I would blame the late play-calling. How many times did we burn a timeout because of lack of hustle on the call and coming out of the huddle? And how many times did we almost have to? How many times was Joe at the line with just 5 seconds to set the line and snap while he's trying to make defensive reads. I get that part of it is crowd noise, but a huge part has to be the OC or play-calling itself. Maybe Cam just needs to reorganize his cheat sheets so that they are easy to read around... maybe his cards are organized by formation and we need them organized by down and distance... lol. OR maybe there should be an "ask madden" button! -
Let's not forget a right tackle. And depending on Trevor Pryce... a defensive end (could probably use one anyway with Suggs being a LB, technically) CBs are huge though. WRs are as well, obviously. A FB is not a bad idea, either. Let Neal groom a replacement. Let McClain keep his hybrid position.

We get the Pats for the next two years at least, I believe. In 2009 because we both finished 2nd in our divisions. In 2010 because we'll be playing the AFC East again.

Can't agree with anything you said about Billick except wasting time on Boller... but even though, I don't think we wasted too much time on him. I mean, we did go get and succeed with McNair. Billick had his issues. In two years we'll have plenty of issues with Harbaugh. Trust me. I'm not Al Davis. I think coaches can survive more than a four year shelf life. Far more. But the honey moon, assuming a good start like Billick and Harbaugh both had, can only last a few years. The doubters come in no time. For all of Billick's faults, he made this team into a winner. He inspired the winning attitude. He gave this whole team the swagger and arrogance we all love nine days out of ten. Now, it eventually wears thin in a coach and even in some players, but he brought a whole lot to this team.
-
We'll just disagree. I value 30 yards of field position in the final minutes of a two point game a whole lot more than a few passes. Even if those passes could go for more than 30 yards. Because there's 22 men on the field on every snap that can alter the outcome in millions of unseen, unknown ways. Darren Stone changed a game all by himself.

Unfortunately, I don't think Rex will be a good head coach. He is a great players guy... but he isn't enough of a disciplinarian to run a team entirely. Especially not in NY, where everything is blown out of proportion. Additionally, to paraphrase some other analysts... his crazy schemes worked here because of the level of talent of our defense. The unconventional does not and will not work everywhere. I cannot fault Ryan for anything he did with this team. And I wish him the best in NY. But I think it is time we saw some new faces on our defensive coaching staff... who knows what greatness may come.

Thread closed. Move it to the main room, fellas.

Flacco doesn't really deserve the blame here. Blame camerons slow and stinky playcalling - it was uneven, relied on long developing pass routes etc Blame darren stone Blame a worthless receiving corps Blame plenty of folks ... but joe deserves some slack I think. His performance was far fromstellar, but he hardly cost us this game compared to many others. jmho

I saw it bounce while he was in bounds. It popped straight up, hit his forearm, and ricochet (before bouncing again) toward the cards endzone. I just don't see how a bounce straight up can change direction like that without being touched

Well Anderson was wrong but based on what he was told he did the right thing. Meanwhile, the ball WAS touched while the player was out of bounds, thus establishing the ball as out just as in any other play.
