  1. You still don't see the hypocrisy?
  2. You go re-read what you said. In one sentence you said you hadn't watched the show since Eddie Murphy. In the next you said that the crew with Murphy was the best ever and the recent can't compete. Well, I've never read Dickens or Poe... but Poe is easily the better author.
  3. Jim Carreu was not on SNL - that was In Living Color
  4. So you're acknowledging that your statement on SNL is MORE absurd and less defendable?
  5. I want Wieters to start hitting as a righty only... He hits over 320 and slugs over 600 as a righty, every year. Even if there's a dropoff(and of course there would be) it would be far better than his 210 as a lefty.
  6. That's like saying Jim Palmer was better than Just in Verlander... But you haven't watched baseball since 1980.
  7. Dee is referring to many recent events... Like the man in a car crash shot by police while banging on a door for help.. Or the girl in Baltimore shot asking for help on a local porch. But two thoughts... 1. Where do you get 50/50 odds for Fla? Total bull. If the odds are that high I'm still wondering why there is any crime at all. 2. Isn't the radio example a good example of "when the robbers aren't robbers?" Can't we go back to the basic anti death penalty logic? "I'd rather 100 guilty men go free than 1 innocent man killed." How many non-robbers has Florida killed now?
  8. But you're so confident the guy in MD would've been shot in FL... except... when those robbers aren't shot.
  9. Maybe. But only so many draft picks. Every pick used on one position is unavailable for another. And I think it's even more of a stretch to say that we'd find equal value in an unrestricted free agent or undrafted rookie.
  10. ... so there are no robberies in Florida?
  11. I think Crav was talking about Davis. Either way, I disagree that Davis' year will be that much of an outlier. I think he'll hit into 40HR range... maybe not 50. Avg might suffer most. Machado will make a big difference either way
  12. The SNL skit was about FoxNews, not global warming, really... but sure, criticism is invalid if it's not funny enough.
  13. Interesting Thought/Note: Go look at Steve Clevenger's minor league numbers... I'll help you cheat a bit... over parts of 8 seasons in the minors (he is now 28 and has been splitting time in the majors since 2010): 311 Avg, 373 OBP, 428 SLG (800 OPS). What? Why isn't this guy at least getting his shot as a regular catcher (not over Wieters, but in general in the last 4 years)? He's also pretty darn decent with the glove. Anyway... Machado will help a lot. Jones and Davis will hit. The offense will generally come around. But we've got a lot of dead bats that I think people overlook. It just sucks.
  14. I don't necessarily have a problem with right to carry. I don't think it's bright, but I don't know that it's any worse than what we have now. I do have a problem with "Stand Your Ground" - which is really called "no requirement to retreat" - because it outright justifies aggressive behavior instead of acknowledging and requiring that, even if the other person is being rude, you do not just get to be equally rude back. We all talked about this re: George Zimmerman last summer. Self defense should be an affirmative defense. You should have to prove you were in danger and that there were no viable means to do other that attack. You should also have to prove the aggressive actions of the other party. (Maybe Zimmerman did that). But Stand Your Ground says much the opposite, you don't have to retreat, you don't have to consider other options and you don't have to actually be in harm you just have to "feel" the possibility of harm to justify becoming an aggressor. Carry a gun, fine. But use a gun and be ready to explain yourself and face the consequences.
  15. Crav... no one disagrees that it's rude. But the point here is that it's not an offense or a rudeness worth being shot over. And yet, in Florida, people ARE getting shot over it. So, your "oh, they'd have to think twice" is resulting in exactly the opposite... Instead of thinking twice, people who are angry are able to quickly and WITHOUT THINKING fire at people they find "rude." Seriously, I can't tell if you think we're just talking hypotheticals or if you're just that dense. But there's a 16 year old dead for playing his music too loud at a gas station ... and in Florida all the guy had to do was say, "It made me afraid." Who in that case "should have thought twice?" There's a guy in Florida dead because the guy behind him was mad about his texting - during the previews, just to clarify. Once again, who there should have thought twice? Because in that case, the old man didn't think twice, he just fired. But sure, give everyone a gun and it will certainly reduce our likelihood of committing crimes. Instead, it will make us all much quicker to shoot. People talk about arming teachers to prevent school shootings. Absurd. Schools see teachers throw chairs and curse out students on a regular basis - and students do much worse of course. What happens if there's a gun in those situations? #1 reason I'm not moving to Florida -- Crav is there and seems pretty clear he'd acquit my killer because "I should've thought twice" before bumping into someone in the men's room.
  16. Two thoughts... One, how many returned after a first contract? Second, it's still all about cost-benefit and the rest of the market. Do you really think Oz was holding Dickson saying "this is the year" or was it just about filling a backup spot without spending? I think the latter. Not sure what you think we're going to get for the price of Cody and sure we could draft but that's also a spot we're wasting... 53 players but not 53 wide open options...
  17. Crav... You're missing the point and the joke. We'd both be allowed. But in Florida right now it's shoot first then justify later. My radio is too loud ... Shoot. Maybe I was carrying. But hardly matters if I'm shot without as much as a warning. But sure... Maintain the "polite society" fallacy. It's clearly decreasing crime in Florida, right?
  18. Oh no... I used to have one! Where'd it go? Do I get a chance to explain before you shoot?
  19. I agree w that. I disagree that if it happened here you'd see protests. I also said I disagree that the other situations are remotely related/are a good sign of the quality of your society. Hooray dead people for playing music and using cell phones?
  20. I don't agree with this. They dump plenty who fail. But they also know the market enough to know if they can find better. Cody is a backup... Can you find better given our needs and $$?
  21. Most of it will come around. It's been 4 games. Who cares, really. I remain most worried about an offense that has NO ONE that can get on base at much better than a 330 clip. And that is a problem. We're watching Adam Jones dive at balls in front of the plate ... Flaherty can't even tell a ball from a strike, taking strikes and swinging at balls, Markakis has been ok but he's not walking like he once did, Cruz actually has three walks I think - but his rep is to take far fewer than that. I really don't know why Steve Pearce is on the roster.
  22. Crav... my hope is that most of your post is at least lighthearted if not a joke. If you think it's a bonus to have vigilante justice ... movie theater and gas station shootings over cell phones and loud music... I guess you're right where you want to be. I hate chronic texters and loud music - regardless of genre - but I don't think I'd much like to live in a place where a gun was the answer to those problems. I also disagree entirely with your example of the internet cafe. Those guys were obviously committing a crime - as evidence shows. The movie theater had a camera... it shows a cell phone and popcorn. The gas station had a camera - it doesn't show much, but we've yet to see a gun. You're just so full of shit.
  23. Is this a racism joke... Because it's not funny unless you-know-who says it.
  24. ... And Jones and Lough and Wieters and ... Everyone not named Cruz
  25. Nice. But as predicted, if it's not on a HR... This team doesn't score.
