  1. Spen... don't forget that one time you... posted in reply to someone else's post with your opinion... which you can't do, because you're a mod.
  2. Yeah... I'm sure Florida's problem is immigration and not a lack of money because it has no income tax. Maybe its an abundance of apathy from people who move there under the mantra of loving no taxes and not having to pay for services they don't care about.
  3. My biggest chuckle is the reference to mods here like this is an ESPN board w one million users and these mysterious mods who zap unsuspecting posters like big brother in some totalitarian state. The biggest modding I've ever done here is moving a post or two and sending a PM asking folks to behave. I'm like the freaking bartender at brunch. But whatever straw man you wanna fight...
  4. Sorry all - I will keep the flaming elsewhere. I forgot OldSchool owns any thread he posts in, especially when he says something racist or otherwise absurd. I'll go back to only posting happy thoughts.
  5. I show preference to all my friends and I'm 100% open about it. And everything one who's been here more than a month without causing trouble falls into that grouping. Please, go find me one poster on this board who has ever been threatened by this big bad mean ol' mod. Meanwhile, still not banning you. But happy to make sure others read your note for what it is.
  6. Note's Note: It would of course be easy to believe this note if you hadn't specifically said "black women today" and "just like a gang banger." But sure, totally harmless and without malice or forethought. Actually, come to think of it, without forethought is probably the perfect description for this post... and some others.
  7. Oh... I forgot an obvious one... The ability to run an election without major issues... you know, running out of ballots, miscounting, broken machines...
  8. Nice numbers, Dee. I suppose I just also wonder what exactly you get when you cut big sources of revenue? I know one answer of course is that most states with low tax rates are net borrowers from the Federal Government. So maybe you don't give anything up... you just get it for free from someone else. In fact, that's always been my favorite part of the taxing debate. The northern US tends to pay more in federal taxes than they receive. While the opposite is true in the South. But ultimately, I come back to... can a larger state with a smaller tax base/revenue provide the same quality of education, health services, waste removal, water treatment, etc? I don't think so. I know in Pennsylvania people complain about road quality and maintenance, not to mention some basic city services that they wind up paying for separately (trash removal or recycling)... Haven't lived it myself so I don't know for sure.
  9. I gave up my ticket thinking getting out of work would be impossible... turned out, I totally could have taught all my classes and made it in time. But I just left early, got home in time to curl up with a beer and some snacks. Nice game. But first Opening Day I haven't attended in a decade.
  10. Private school - no union and pension program ended in 09. Other benefits are better though. 6% is fine but I still want services. And both states you moved to are nnotoriously lacking
  11. Bout time someone posted it! 60 and gorgeous
  12. My generation won't see pensions unless you work for the state. I have pre-tax IRAs that will be taxed when removed. Other post-tax IRAs that will be tax-free when removed. Good balance. But simply the reality for anyone under 35 (and maybe older) these days. Pensions just don't exist. That of course is all federal - the state taxes hardly make a difference to me. And I'd rather enjoy the services of a taxed state than suffer from the lack thereof in undertaxed areas.
  13. But he has to live in Florida...
  14. The bigger issue leading to injury is not being multi sport athletes anymore. This is increasingly true of increased injury rates in all sports. It's not just the extra stress - as in a kid is throwing 5x as many innings by age 18, if not more, because they play baseball in all seasons - it's also that not playing other sports means "support" muscles are not being developed to help you with your one specialized tax. As for Tommy John surgery - it's so common that healthy players are considering it to increase arm strength because the success rate is making it seem safe. And that's not just true of TJ in arms for baseball - the same surgery can be done in many sports for many ligaments.
  15. You're crazy Crav. I would trust Tyrod for a quarter.
  16. Longer you own a home, the less interest you pay... Less of a credit! But they've also cut a lot of credits in the last five years. In the end, what it really means of course is that I lent the gov more $$ over the year. My paychecks were smaller than they should have been!
  17. I enjoyed our taxes this year... Baby, house, education expenses... It was a good February.
  18. You're going to hate me for this... But the woman in the photo - not with anger - says it was pretty much forced on her. In several other shots not published you can watch her push him away and struggle with him; she described him as damn near fall over drunk. Now - great respect to the soldier and his service, and iconic photo of course - but in a sense propaganda as much as anything else.
  19. Harvard cleared out another 14%...
  20. And w Dayton... 85% of people are wrong and lose the billion dollar perfect bracket on the tourney's first game!
  21. Well, yes... if you're waiting on corn, then you're going to have to wait a bit.
  22. Considering most gas is refined in the gulf... why exactly would it have to come from the north?
  23. Oh, I know nothing this year. Watched maybe 3 or 4 Terps games... and they aren't in.
  24. taking you down, papa!
  25. Yeah, we were just over 6" in Towson. Hearing closer to 8 in the Annapolis region. But sboe has stopped now
