Now that Indy is out of the way and 1-4, can Marlon Mack be had ? Looked better than anyone we got. If not, maybe we trade one of our backs for a proven LB/pass rusher from a "seller". Maybe there's a guy out there whose acquirable before trade DL. Queen aint cutting it !

FWIW- A year or so ago, I heard Bill Pollian (NFL Network) talking about Stanley and Orlando Brown. He thought Brown (rather than Stanley) would be a much smarter deal for us.

The Lamar dilemma - pay or not to pay ? Pay em, were sunk, dont pay em were sunk. fwiw- I dont think he'e the long term answer. I thought this after the LA Chargers playoff game 2 years ago and again last night. If after having 3 years under his belt he hasn't corrected the flaws, what have we got ? Granted and its a big granted, he lost his whole stinking starting backfield plus a Pro Bowl CB that has greatly weakened our secondary and our D's ability to get off the field. These tradeoffs make it difficult to discern Lamar's true progress this year. My bet is he gets the sympathy vote, plays just well enough this year (competitive in many games, pulls a couple rabbits out of the hat and valiantly tries to win games on his own) and garners a long term deal.

Its the Sargeant Schultz approach ( i know nothing). I like it; keep everyone guessing. Hell, after losing almost 1/5 of the starters, what have we got to lose. Maybe Lamar plays with a bigger chip on his shoulder and has some dang fun !

I like Gus as the Bus. He may not be the HR threat but he is a HAMMER. Now that JK is out, unsure who we use out of the backfield. Perhaps TySon gives Gus a blow or break at times, while Hill and McCrary are the runners/pass receivers. Either way, I like the mix going forward. No need for a FA unless someone goes down.

So is our season if one of our current backs goes down.

I’d like to see us reacquire Mark Ingram from the Texans. They’re rebuilding and we need a proven back who already knows the system. Could probably get him for a 5th or 6th round. Don’t like our teams chances if just one more back goes down.

Good points Max and Hollywood is right. The O does need to correct this passing deficiency - big time. It didn't help losing Ronnie Stanley and TE Boyle but every team loses a few key players. On offense, we finally need to address the Center position and select/acquire a strong player this offseason. We haven had a legit C since Matt Birk. They absolutely need to clean this up this offseason. Lamar cant survive these keystone cop hikes next season. In addition, Lamar needs that big time possession receiver we haven's seen since Anquan. Draft or acquire via FA ; just get em. I hope Willie Sneed is right and Lamar works hard in the offseason.

The rain/snow forecast sounds like a definite maybe . As for Lamar, let’s hope the Bills are singing the blues and the old Paul Simon tune. The excitement and buildup for the game is exasperating.

Max, your analysis really nailed it. I see the key matchups as (1) our running game vs Buffalo's D, and (2) Josh Allen vs our secondary. I like our running game and exploiting their D. Our running attack, given the weather conditions, must be strong, protect the rock and control the clock. Buffalo's offense, especially pass O, is prolific. Our pass rush and secondary must play complimentary D and cant let Allen beat us with his feet. Both teams are red hot, motivated and well coached. Whoever executes the best and protects the rock will come out on top ! Should be a slobberknocker !

Spen, you cut me to the quick. Maybe I was a bit premature with my pedigree remarks about Lamar. Maybe not. Here's the thing - Lamar has a very unconventional skill set and he's almost impossible for teams to game plan for. When he's doing his thing and yes, having fun, he's almost impossible to stop and a helluva lot of fun to watch. Sure, fun isn't the metric or requirement; its the effect or outcome. Bill Pollian, ESPN, & NFL Network, offered an interesting perspective on XM radio this morning. He said with Lamar's unbelievable skill set, you almost can never truly game plan for him. Interestingly, he added that the decision give Ronnie Stanley a long term deal is closely linked to what the Ravens deal with Lamar. His reasoning - Lamar may not need the conventional blocking ( blind side LT) and signing Stanley could be counter with how we use and hence contract Lamar. His point is the Stanley and Lamar (future) signings have interesting implications and could be viewed as mutually exclusive. If you sign or extend Lamar then did we really need Stanley or could we look to OBJ as the better, wiser long term LT solution. Interesting food for thought. Back to the pedigree.... Pollian suggested that Lamar's amazing performance thus far (3 years) has gone without a hitch and hardly a nick. That's great but he and others believe that with his amazing skillset, Lamar may have an effective NFL shelf life similar to Cam Newtons (i.e. 7-8 years). I personally think Lamar has greater skills and pedigree than Cam but could envision an effective shelf life of 7-8 years. Here's the point - if Pollian and others are right (or even close), we might have already witnessed almost half of his effective shelf life in the NFL. And is his pedigree, which I truly enjoy and is fun to watch, is it fleeting ? Its a good topic to debate or ponder and there are no right or wrong answers. Fleeting or not, I'll continue to enjoy and look for whether Lamar is having fun - because a happy Lamar is a successful Lamar and a winning team. And you can bet Saturday night, given the respite from the broken world you described, I'll be watching Lamar and hopefully he and the team have a lot of fun in Buffalo.

Yes, we are fortunate to have Lamar who, when he’s having fun, is the most dynamic, electric and exciting player in football. These times and highlight reels of Lamar are fleeting and extraordinary - we should all enjoy and, like Lamar, have fun watching them. I know I am.
