There is a lot of luck involved in this win. The Bengals defense is horrible. The Monday Morning QB in me says Lamar can't be counted on to be a franchise QB until he consistently throws from the pocket and proves he can throw the ball down the field and get the ball to his receivers. You have to have a very good passing game in today's NFL to go anywhere. Granted he's a rookie. This was his first start. He's a project with a huge upside.

We have all been here before We have all been here before We have all been here before! 2:45 left....Bengals down by 3....at their 9 yard line....just like last year..... ..... Come on...how many of us thought "Here we go again." What did you think Andy? "I definitely thought we were going to go down there, we were going to score and win the game," Dalton said. Today the D came through. They held the Bengals to 6 of 14 on 3rd downs, 255 total yards and shut down Mixon ( 1.2 ypc) and Bernard (2.5ypc) for 48 yards total.

A new dilemma emerges. Let's call it a good problem to have.

I'm not so sure that they can't beat the Chiefs or Falcons with Lamar and this run heavy offense. Both teams have defenses that suck and the Ravens should score at will. Look at what all this running did for the Ravens today; the Ravens had the ball for 38 minutes to the Bengals 21. Keep the offenses off the field.

How about Gus Edwards! He's a huge reason that they won. All the big gains he made kept them out of 3rd and long. On the 2 pt conversion run, the look on his face as he started to run toward the end zone....the look in his eyes....well there's no way that I would have wanted to be in front of him. It was like "get out of my way or I'll destroy you."
-
Certainly Lamar will not last long if he continues to run as much as today. When he got near the sidelines, he did run out. The Bengals tried hard to hurt or injure him when tackling him. But come on man!!....this was a fun game to watch. A huge win and give Lamar some credit to play as well as he did in his first NFL start. Of course it was raw and imperfect. There is a lot to build on.

How about a little hype.... I mean a guy who can dress like this for the draft does not know fear.... “When my name finally got called, I was like, ‘Man, I’m glad I wore this suit,’ ” Jackson said jokingly during a post-draft news conference. “Just an honor for the Ravens organization to believe in me. And all the teams that passed me up … there’s a lot that’s gonna come with that.” What do you think Kyle?

No big deal. If you start, then you'll be replacing the Ravens QB for the past 11 years. A Super Bowl MVP. This is a must win game. As close to a playoff game without being a playoff game. The Ravens have to win to stay in the playoff hunt at 4-5. A loss and it's and uphill battle to be a .500 team. The Bengals at 5-4 own the Raven and have just as much pressure to win. A loss and your HC probably loses his job at the end of the season....lots of players will lose their jobs. This is more than enough to make a lesser man have an upset stomach! So chill....be cool....it's just football......another day at the office.

How far does OSU drop in the rankings
vmax replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Maryland Terrapins / NCAA
Great game! Terps would have won if Pigram could throw 5 yard pass to a wide open man. OSU is weak. -
Got to love Harbaugh's approach and attitude about all this outside speculation....

2019 NFL Draft: Top targets Baltimore Ravens should look at

Save it till the off season. There's months of dead time before the draft. -

They better get their ass in gear for Sunday. I don't see the Ravens offense scoring a ton of points despite the last 3 games the Bengals D has had. If Joe starts, then he'll probably be even more ineffective with a hip injury. Not much chance of winning there. If Lamar starts then there will be rookie mistakes. Oh! He didn't practice today because he's sick! Griffin hasn't played a regular season game in 2 years..... The defense has to show up big Sunday. "This should be a get healthy feast for the Bengals D."
-
I'll add this: the Ravens defense may not be as weak as we think. They did hold the Saints to 24 points and the Steelers to 23. The Saints put up 51 Sunday and the Steelers 52 Thursday night. The Ravens still remain a flawed, inconsistent team. Special Teams has been a big let down. And of course the offense.... If they have to start Lamar Sunday...???...well, I don't know what to think of their chances of winning. The Bengals may not be able to adapt to him and their defense went south Sunday along with their DC.
-
Good to know that. Since some of these writers are local, then there should be more truth than speculation.
-
But they have to win Sunday and turn things around.

This Ravens news topic should have a separate thread as it has basically come out of nowhere during this bye week. I'll call this "rumors" for now, as it was first published by an obscure site called "The Athletic." Yet it all could very well be true as Flacco was seen on crutches. Speculation began with the announcement that this was Ozzie's last season as GM. Next, Joe's future with the Ravens was seriously called into question with the drafting of Lamar Jackson. Finally it also lead to John Harbaughs future with the Ravens, as the team has missed the playoffs and under performed in the eyes of the fan base and probably those inside The Castle. Yet all that would have gone away if this team was in the thick of a playoff race and Joe was having a great season. But the Ravens have lost 3 straight and fallen back into the inconsistent and mediocre team we have been watching for perhaps....too long. This is very serious news. Certainly welcoming news for some fans, but Buyer Beware. It is rare to have a playoff caliber team, one that can get to, and win, a Super Bowl without a great tandem of GM, HC and QB. As fans we had that. It looks like that is fading away and the time to start over is at our door step.

Actually I think the Ravens will finish 8-8. .500 Yet there is still a glimmer of hope. Wins over the Bengals and Raiders put them at 6-5. It will mean they are playing better. Perhaps good enough to beat the Falcons and their poor defense, the Chargers and their poor defense and the Browns. 9-7. Which may not be good enough for a wild card.
-
Wins over the Bengals and Raiders could change everything. check this out....

There's a new GM taking over. Does he want to tie his fate to Joe and Jim or to Lamar and a HC of his choosing? Then...do they get rid of Weddle, Carr, Jefferson? Does Suggs retire? What about Brown, Snead and Crabtree? They will all be another year older. What about getting a pass rush and an effective offensive line? What about getting a RB?

Just realized that I'm not doing too bad. Right now my biggest problem in life is how to dress for this game.
